@Morden Man I would like to play Kyle and take him in my 'new direction' as we've discussed, but I've been looking for stuff that's newer to me. Honestly, I'd prefer if I could play Kyle alongside Carol, but Kyle's my number two choice. So I'm in a tough spot here.
EDIT: Would love to see the clashing Capplications though.
I'm guessing should there be competing applications we'd revert back to the old sample post method? It seems odd not to have seen the competing takes on a character in such an instance.
Well I believe the back story, character goals and direction would all be taken into consideration before asking for a sample post if that was even deemed necessary. However I'll leave it for @Gowi to fully confirm.
@HenryJonesJr has been incredibly gracious and stepped aside so I can take a crack at Captain America. I'm eternally grateful, though I'm sure the rest of you are thoroughly disappointed we worked this out without having to dance around the Thunder Dome using baseball bats wrapped in barbed wire. Maybe next time.
Switching things up a bit after some PMs back and forth with Modern Man
(Imagine this, but with a blue domino mask)
| Identity | Stephanie Carter aka Nomad
| Origin & Backstory |
After Steve Rogers was lost at the end of WWII, the United States immediately jump started “Project Reclamation” in order to craft a replacement super soldier. Since the only thing that was recovered from the area believed to be the final resting place of Rogers and Bucky Barnes was Cap’s vibranium shield, the only biological place to start were samples of Rogers’s blood taken after the death of Abraham Erskine. Untold funds and methods were pouring into trying to extract the serum from the blood, including using Nazi and HYDRA defectors as scientists.
Nothing worked, however, and the project was more or less shelved, with a skeleton team left working on it. The leader of that team was former HYDRA mind Arnim Zola, who was dead set on completing his goals. He worked tirelessly for decades in the lab. While his body aged, his mind never dulled, and he believed he would succeed.
And succeed he did.
In the early 80s, Zola approached SHIELD brass to tell them that he could impregnate a woman with genetic material from Rogers. In turn, this would birth a super soldier child. The project was immediately put into motion, and they quickly received a volunteer. Sharon Carter, great niece of Steve Rogers’s flame Peggy Carter and current Agent 13, volunteered to carry and raise the child. She was quickly approved, as she was the agency’s best female agent.
The baby was born on, fittingly, V.E. Day 1984. To everyone’s surprise, the child was female. Sharon named her Stephanie in honor of her “father”.
Stephanie was a happy child. She was raised on the Triskelion, SHIELD’s base of operations. Like most military bases, there were other “military brats” on the installation growing up next to Steph. Her best friend was the older Bobbi Morse, who acted like Steph’s big sister. The two were inseparable, and often got into trouble on the station.
Her life changed on her thirteenth birthday. Director of SHIELD Timothy Duggan and Sharon informed her of her heritage and what she was meant for, believing it was time. While the two worried it would scare the young girl, Stephanie felt nothing but pride that she was to carry on the legacy of the world’s greatest hero.
Once Steph was fully grown around age 16, she threw herself into SHIELD training. She took to combat, strategy, and stealth as quickly as her father did, quickly becoming an expert combatant. She was also allowed to train with her father’s shield, something she treasured greatly.
Once she turned 18, Steph was approved for field work, though not as Captain America, as Duggan did not think she was ready for the mantle. Instead, she adopted her mother’s former callsign “Agent 13”, and worked in the field with her friend Bobbi, who worked under the codename “Mockingbird”. The two quickly became the agency’s top anti-terrorism agents as part of the STRIKE forward operations team.
Their main adversary was the nefarious organization known as Advanced Idea Mechanics, a group dedicated to technological domination of the globe. The pair thwarted AIM many times, drawing the ire of the group and driving them to perform dangerous experiments to gain a leg up on SHIELD.
During this time they also came in contact with the mysterious terrorist group known as KOBRA. This fanatical sect seemed to sow anarchy where ever they went, and SHIELD struggled to pinpoint their leadership or their end goal.
It was during this time that Stephanie also came in contact with the enigmatic vigilante known as “The Question”. Question was investigating AIM and KOBRA on his own, and warned Stephanie that something else was in play. The two were too organized and well funded to have sprung up so quickly. He believed it had deeper, evil ties, and told her to get in touch with him if she ever wanted to learn the real truth of the world. While he came off as a bit of a nut, something about his words rung true, and she kept his warning in the back of her mind.
After September 11th, 2001, the world of the superhero again began to emerge to the forefront of society. As it did, Stephanie was sure her time as Captain America was about to begin. SHIELD needed to present its own superhuman to the world, to show that it could still protect them in an ever shifting new reality. She once again began carrying her father’s shield on missions, against the wishes of SHIELD high command. But she wanted to be ready.
Her world came crashing down on March 19th, 2005. HYDRA and the Red Skull announced their return, and Steph knew it was time. She marched into Fury’s office, ready to demand the mantle. His response, however, broke her heart. Director Nick Fury, Duggan's replacement after his death at the hands of KOBRA, maintained she wasn’t ready yet, and that someone else would carry the mantle until she was. Bucky Barnes had been found and was who Fury was going to make the figurehead of the fight against HYDRA.
Enraged, Stephanie Carter decided to do something drastic.
| Attributes | Stephanie inherited her father's abilities from the Super Soldier Serum. She has peak human strength, speed, agility, dexterity, endurance, and cognitive functions. Stephanie's mind is so strategically wired that she is invaluable on the battlefield. This also allows her to quickly learn combat forms and strategies at a rate a normal human being cannot comprehend. As such, she is a master marksman, hand-to-hand combatant, and strategist. Though she is deadly with firearms, she prefers to use hand-to-hand combat as well as her shield.
| Character Notes |
The Question - An enigmatic vigilante and conspiracy theorist, Question is Nomad’s best source of information. Mockingbird/Bobbi Morse - Steph’s best friend and SHIELD agent, Bobbi supports Steph, though their relationship becomes strained after the latter’s desertion. Sharon Carter - Stephanie’s mother.
AIM - A terrorist organization that Carter has thwarted many times. HYDRA - The reemergent theat to world security Red Skull - Her father’s arch nemesis.
| Character Goals | Stephanie Carter is a woman without a destiny in this reality. The reason she came to be is now irrelevant, and she struggles with her identity in life now. She's left SHIELD and forged her own path as Nomad, becoming a vigilante outside the system in order to prove to herself that she can be just as good of a hero as her father. If she can't be Captain America, she's going to forge her own path and make sure her name stands as the same beacon for good.
| Identity | James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, better known as Captain America.
| Origin & Backstory | James “Bucky” Barnes was the orphaned son of a serviceman killed during a training exercise at Camp Lehigh in Virginia shortly before the start of WW2. Rather than rehouse Bucky the camp adopted him and he soon became accustomed to military life, often dressing up in his father’s uniform and finding himself in alcohol-induced scrapes with other boys around the camp. For his own good as much as the wellbeing of the sailors frequenting the bars around Camp Lehigh, Bucky was sent to England to channel his anger through rigorous training with the SAS. Little did he know that he was being groomed to be none other than Captain America’s sidekick.
For the cameras and the picture books, Bucky would be little more than a teenaged companion for Captain America that would boost morale back at home and support for the war effort. In truth his partnership with Steve Rogers was more practical than the comic books would ever let on. Bucky was capable and willing to do the things that Steve was not. He would sneak behind enemy lines unseen, slit the enemy’s throat, and let Captain America and Nick Fury’s Howling Commandos in before they had the chance to raise the alarm. It wasn’t pretty work, but it was something Bucky took to more naturally than he cared to admit.
Steve wasn’t only his partner, he became Bucky’s closest friend, and their friendship was what got the pair through the hardship they encountered. At every turn they thwarted the Red Skull and Baron Zemo and pushed the Germans back, their presence breathing new hope into soldiers that had long since considered the war lost. Thanks to Captain America, Bucky, and the Howling Commandos the Germans were on their knees and they knew it. They grew more desperate by the minute.
It was their desperation that led Baron Heinrich Zemo to launch that pilotless plane over the North Atlantic carrying enough explosives to level the Northern Hemisphere. Captain America and Bucky climbed aboard, risking their lives to defuse the plane, as it flew across the Artic Ocean, destined to unmake Western civilization as they knew it once it hit. Try as they might there was no defusing the plane and Steve, hard-headed as ever, chose to kick Bucky free from it and force the plane to detonate away from danger the only way he could: manually.
Bucky tumbled towards the icy water and watched as the explosion lit up the sky and his closest friend was engulfed by flames. As he opened his mouth to cry out in anguish he came crashing down into the water and his lungs filled with freezing cold water. The last thing he saw before he slipped out of consciousness was the blast from the explosion above him lighting up the sky like the Fourth of July growing fainter by the second.
[1945-2005: REDACTED]
It has been nearly sixty years since Bucky plunged into that icy water and for the first time since his eyes open to find himself in a hospital bed. A familiar face is sat at the foot of his bed, that of Nicholas J. Fury, but his surroundings are very far from familiar to him. He is hooked into machines that bear no resemblance to those he grew accustomed to in his time and most significantly of all his left arm has been replaced by a metal prosthetic of some sort. He raises a hand to his face to find it changed, older somewhat, and begins to panic. Fury reassures him but breaks the news to him that Bucky had begun to piece together: he’s been out for a long time, seventy years to be exact, and Steve Rogers is dead. The world is different to the one he left behind, much different, but it still needs a Captain America. In fact, it needs a Captain America more now than ever before.
And only Bucky is fit to carry the shield.
| Attributes | Bucky is an expert at hand to hand combat and is a naturally gifted martial artist, has extensive training with firearms, speaks several languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, and Russian, and his time as an advanced scout in WW2 has left him one of the most dangerous assassins and spies in the world. The metal prosthetic grants Bucky a degree of superhuman strength and enhanced reaction time, coupled with being equipped with an EMP and a holographic function that can render it undistinguishable from a normal arm at will.
| Character Goals |
Hopefully I'll succeed in showing the sense of burden that Bucky feels upon assuming the mantle of Captain America to begin with. It's my intention that by the end of my "run" as Captain America, it'll be clear that Bucky not only considers himself as much Captain America as Steve Rogers ever was but that those around him do too. Of course, there's Bucky's past to contend with and Captain America's sudden re-emergence changes things, though things are far, far less straightforward than they appear to both the public and to Barnes and the repercussions of that will be very far reaching.
Just a last check as to whether anyone wants to play Hal, Kyle, Guy, or John? Because in such an instance I'll probably stick a competing Captain America CS up and if not I'll stick with Carol, but I don't want to squat on a second choice character if doing so will put somebody else out.
Also been planning to write Kyle, but it's not a be all and end all (@nightrunner).
Mutation. In recent memory, no subject has captured the intelligent minds of the world like it. Humans with inhuman abilities and miraculous powers, borne not of scientific accident, but genetic disposition and circumstance. A sore topic indeed for much of the latter half of the twentieth century, as well as the formative years of The new millennium.
The positions are simple. On one side, swathes of people committed to preserving their own species' survival and claim over the world, with no thought to the mutant cost this might afford. On the other, the disillusioned and oppressed, gifted with great power, but seemingly impotent in the face of adversity. They fight for the right to civil liberty in a world that hates and fears them, some with words, others with actions. As with any ideology, both sides have their moderates, and their less-tha not-moderates. Very few concede that the two might ever coexist.
The position of government too, is clear. With the M.R.D. (The Mutant Response Division) - an organisation predating the likes of HAMMER - being formed to keep tabs on dangerous mutants and those who may become dangerous, their end goal seems to be the detention of any and all mutant that can't keep its head down.
Something has to give, lest the planet they fight for control of be made simple collateral. The world needs people to unite both tribes, to lead by example. The world needs heroes. The world needs The X-Men.
Genesis (1980's Onwards) To know The X-Men, you must first know their teacher. A man with unassailable moral fortitude, an uncanny gift for discussion, and a respect for sentient life of all forms. A paraplegic, suffering from damage sustained to his spine following his time served in the military, he harboured more than his own thoughts of resentment. Able to read your mind without you even suspecting it, this alumni of Oxford University was also an outed Mutant, one of the first real high-profile activists for mutant-rights in America and the driving force for efforts to promote coexistence between his species and their predecessors.
While not the loudest faction in play - an honour that belonged to The Purifiers (a violent group of Human Supremicists, united in their intolerance and headed by Reverend William Striker) - nor the hardest-hitting (surely, the growing but disorganised Brotherhood of Mutants), his message stayed strong, a peaceful front in the face of violence and uncertainty, but landing useless on the ears of most.
As the eighties drew to a close and more and more was learnt about 'Homo Superior' and the illusive 'X-Gene', given responsibility where blame first lay in disease or, depending on your social circles, divine punishment for human debauchery and sin, paranoia spread. Even you, a seemingly ordinary human being, could carry this Gene, ready to pass it on. Your kids could have it. Your neighbours kids could have it! And save them coming out blue, deformed or invisible, you wouldn't know until it was too late.
It was a hard time to be a mutant, harder still knowing there was no way to change your fate. Someone had to act.
Exodus (1939 - 1994) Erik Lehnsherr. Any student of mutant history need only know one name if they wish to truly capture the formative events of the Mutant Revolution. Known to many as the larger-than-life Magneto, this is a survivor of the worst Humanity had to offer in a time when fear and ignorance were the flavour of the day. A survivor of the Nazi death camps, his own mutant abilities triggered years after he was made a free man. Impotent in the face of a mechanical behemoth. To the memory of his mother, his father and millions killed by their neighbours, he vowed vengeance. Vengeance and justice.
He spent some time overseas, following a brief time in Israel. That world offered Erik nothing. He began to learn more about his condition, to contemplate his position in the world. Soon the travelling student became the travelling teacher. Roaming all over, he deposited his views (and on occasion, his seed) wherever he went, not as a man of peace, but as something else. He paid close attention to the published works of Darwin. Of Marx. Of a scholar named Xavier, landing at one, firm conclusion: mutants and humans would never coexist. It was not in humanity's nature. For security to be afforded to Mutantkind it had to be taken; only by force could the meek truly inherit the Earth.
To this end, he turned his eyes back to the west, where a change had already began. Violence, widespread, with a centre among the disillusioned of North America and Europe. Non-localised and hard hitting, perpetrated by humans under the informal umbrella of the Purifier. The struggling Brotherhood, no leader to steer it was on the backfoot. The one recognised individual at least partially tying them together, the Australian Poet and self-proclaimed new-age communist John Allerdyce, dragged from his bed and lynched outside of his home in Indiana, tied no more. And Magneto acted in kind.
When Mutants Attack! (December 18th 1994) As the year started to draw to a close, as many broadcast networks planned to release their holiday programming, the American public were shocked to find a different white-haired man in red to the one they might have been expecting addressing them. Crowned in a red helmet, the speaker made his presence known finally.
"Mutant brothers and sisters!" He started, accent tickled by European influence. "Throw down your chains. I am Magneto, and while I cannot promise you peace, I can provide the means for you to take it."
With that, regular transmission, rather abruptly recommenced. Many shunned it entirely as a stunt on behalf of the TV-men. A cursory look at the news however would shunt thoughts like that.
Government buildings destroyed. Public forums decimated. Whole bridges, seemingly doubling over as if some great force were exerted upon them. Bolstered by key allies recruited on his travels, Magneto took the fight to Indiana. And when you look under enough rocks, eventually you find a worm or two. Erik found worms of his own, tracking down the supposed assassins of his contemporaries, most notably the men responsible for the murder of John Allerdyce. All found tastefully displayed in their homes, having shifted off their mortal coil.
And suddenly these actions inspired more. Key figures, held ransom by people who might have only glanced at their manifestos. Children armed, allowed to take vengeance on their less evolved cousins. All in the name of Brotherhood.
And at the helm, their White King. Magneto.
The House that Xavier Built (1994 - 1995) Something had to give. Something always had to give. Xavier knew this. Deep down, most did. To this end, a teacher at heart, Xavier opened his own safehouse. His own training camp. A school. The Xavier Institue for Gifted Youngsters. Once his family home - a mansion situated in Salem Centre, Westchester County - there now stood a state of the art academy. Built with the help of protégé, friend and fellow mutant, the blue-furred Dr. Henry McCoy, the Mansion was refitted with the latest and greatest equipment to accommodate for a large student base, as well as a few items that were perhaps surplus to requirements (see Cerebro and The Blackbird).
Designed to protect those who would be feared and misunderstood for their gifts, Xavier hand picked his first students carefully. The Summers brothers from Alaska, endowed with destructive abilities thus far uncontrolled; a goddess from Cairo who's company was exclusively kept with thieves; a girl from Gotham that could lift a bookcase with her mind; and a feral fighter living wild in the Rockies. They were educated in their origins, instructed in the control of their abilities. In particular, Scott Summers, who was unable to open his eyes due to his inability to control the concussive blasts emitted by them, was salvaged. Provided with a visor of McCoy's one design, he could to some respect now function. Training, while intensive and extensive, was never a chore for these children of the atom. It provided a home and a family.
After a body of months, The X-Men were finally ready.
Named for their founder and the gene that set them apart from Homo sapiens, they would encourage humanity and mutantkind to coexist by setting the precedent. By educating. And if needed, by using violence. Their first objective: the cessation of Magneto's reign of terror. Perhaps easier said than done.
Battle for the Atom (1995 - 1998) Inexperienced, the X-Men nevertheless entered many skirmishes, hitting back at Purifiers and Brotherhood members alike. At first their activities were reported under the assumption that they were members of Magneto's own forces. Priority was put on the capture of these mutants, to their dismay.
Their first encounter with Magneto occurred outside the school itself, Magneto responding to calls for talk with Xavier. Finding a seat inside, the two spent the day merely debating, discussing their own ideologies, their preferred outcomes of their current struggle. Magneto in his short time there didn't fail to make an impression; Alex Summers, with doubt already seeded in his mind regarding the validity of the cause he had been conscripted for, now saw Magneto as a hero. When talks went sour, Cyclops viciously attacking Lehnsherr following some pointed remarks and a threat to Xavier's life, it was Havok that neutralised his brother, tackling him to the ground.
Magneto left with Alex in tow, their exact locations unknown for a time.
In the following years, the X-Men only bolstered in strength. They faced threats such as The Friends of Humanity, a far-right Christian fundamentalist group that dabbled in occult weaponry. They faced multiple mutant threats, numerous super powered humans and even an anthropomorphic island. As the children became adults, so too did their control over their power. If Lehnsherr were to surface now, they were ready.
M Day (1998) The final stand occurred in April of 1998. A lock finally being made on Magneto's position, The X-Men were able to track him to the U.S. Nuclear launch facility of Cape Citadel. Fighting there way through, dispatching Magneto's acolytes in synch with each other, they finally reached the control room.
A rapturous fight broke loose, with the X-Men taking on Magneto and Havok with full force. Much had changed since their first days together. This group had no trouble dispatching Havok, Magneto holding strong. In a last ditch attempt to start World War Three, the madman bypassed the missile launch codes. Each key snapped in as willed. The facility shook as a great strength left it.
Finishing Magneto off with a combined effort, attention frantically scrambled to the missile launch. With haste, they attempted to prevent a launch - no use. It began to rise. And then something clicked. The launch was aborted. SHIELD had arrived.
Peacetime (1998 - 2005) Following this, Magneto and Havok were arrested and detained in a special SHIELD facility. And the X-Men celebrated their greatest victory for the cause.
Though the roster changed significantly over the years, the message continued to remain relevant. The efforts of The X-Men in recent years have stopped multiple threats to mutant and humankind alike, helping to turn public opinion slowly more in favour of those they might otherwise despise. If ever there was a quiet before the storm, this was one.
As we begin to follow our heroes, the team is entering its third incarnation, the helm being taken up by experienced team-member Ororo Munroe, codenamed Storm. The original students have in turn become teachers. And something evil stirs. Something overlooked up until now.
| Biographies |
Age: 26 Powers in Brief: Weather Manipulation History: Storm was born into a life of crime and her powers made her worshipped as a goddess. An orphan, Ororo roamed the streets of Cairo as a pick-pocket, under the protection of fellow mutant Amahl Farouk, a Fagin-esque character. Picking a pocket or two for many years, she matured to have a sympathetic outlook for those not recognised as members of society. Eventually saved from her dangerous circumstances by Charles Xavier, Ororo was able to put her childhood in the past and move on with relative ease.
As a veteran of three incarnations of the team, it was only natural when Scott Summers and Jean Grey decided to step down that she should lead them. It is a responsibility she takes very seriously; above anything else, the X-Men are her family. She would do anything to lessen their burdens.
Age: 24 Powers in Brief: Photokinesis; Superspeed; Flight History: A recent addition, the Canadian Northstar gained his abilities in his early teens. Orphaned at a young age after his parents wrapped their car around an articulate truck. Jean-Paul and twin sister Jeanne were raised by their paternal aunt, imbued with her own morals and scruples.
After being outed as a mutie, he became the target of numerous attacks, as did his sister. While he maintained a rather thick skin to it, his sister was deeply affected by the hate speech and the victimisation. She lost her life after a particularly violent encounter with some hopped up Purifiers, just as Charles Xavier intervened. Incapacitating the attackers, Xavier extended an offer of protection and training to Jean-Paul. He embraced it, in order to honour his fallen sister.
As of the start of the roleplay, Jean has grieved extensively and eventually found the motivation to enjoy life again.
Age: 22 Powers in Brief: Teleportation History: Fate had not been kind to Kurt. He was the son of Bavarian immigrants who had searched for the American Dream In Boston, Massachusetts and came up short. They were pious people. God fearing. Little did they know that his next gift to the them would trump that fear entirely.
Many mutants, to put it mildly, have it lucky. Looking no different from the parents that spawned them, it takes about twelve to thirteen years before they can be denounced as the work of Satan. It took Kurt until the close of his first breath.
His parents thought him hideous; skin blue as night, few fingers and fewer toes, tiny beginnings of fanged canines. And Bringing up his rear, having been curled around his belly, a tail. Like a demon.
His father was all for taking the boy out back and shooting it. Save it cursing their family anymore. The mother however, thought that would be a dear shame. So they bundled him up and left him at the door of a church. They would know what to do.
He was discovered the morning after by a priest and taken in with open arms. He fed the child and took care of it. When it matured into a young man, he even allowed it to enter the civilised world, albeit with donned in monks habit.
Xavier recruited the adolescent to his school after a church collection want sour. A member of the flock spied the blue imp changing into his disguise through the back curtain. And he was discovered. Chased into the city streets and cornered in an alle, it was to his great surprise that his attackers were frozen in place.
Making a home at the Institue, after much honing of his skills he was made a member of the team proper. Despite his appearance, he is a beloved member of the X-Men.
Age: 21 Powers in Brief: Power Absorption; Flight; Super-strength History: A child of separation, Rogue's first memory of her mother was of her begrudgingly writing her a cheque for her birthday - unammicable, the split had favoured Anna-Marie's father greatly. The routine visits to her mother did not necessitate love, either, one might add. Her settlement had already afforded the girl her maiden name anyway. Yet by the time she was ten, the mother has simply vanished. Bags packed, flat emptied, it was like she had never existed.
This rejection plagued the back of Anna-Marie's mind throughout her childhood. And at the moment of her first kiss, when her powers surfaced, she was made to sympathise.
Her touch robbed the boy of his life, suddenly. Infairly. A kiss of death. As she realised what had happened she screamed. Terrified, she knew that her life had just ended. Not only was she a mutie, she had killed. This was a nightmare. Donning as many layers as possible and pocketing a much cash as she could find, she followed her fickle role model's lead and fled.
She was eventually recovered by one Professor Charles Xavier, pinpointed within a crowd as she slept rough. The introverted teen, keen to make amends and control her abilities accepted his offer of a home and of instruction.
As she matured, not only did her secondary abilities of flight and strength come into being, but after much struggle, she gained control of her leeching skin. Can't say that hampered her confidence either.
Growing
Age: 23 Powers in Brief: Organic Metal Skin; Super-Stength History: A farmhand and dedicated son, when Siberian native Colossus' abilities manifested, he was not met with adversity at all. Viewed exclusively as a gift, his parents certainly treated him no different to his sister. In her case it seemed she had been spared his genetic disposition.
On the eve of his nineteenth birthday, he was visited by Charles Xavier. After some discussion, he agreed to go with him to America to fully understand his powers. After a teary farewell, he and his professor set off for home.
A man for whom compassion was second nature, a lover of the arts and indeed of love, it was no surprise when Xavier suggested he become a member of his task force. Characterised as the heart of the team, Piotr is determined and would do anything to protect his teammates.
Age: 16 Powers in Brief: Density Control History: The newest member of the team, Miss Pryde has a lot of work ahead of her. Born to a Jewish family in Queens, NY, her powers surfaced at the age of fourteen, during a particularly boring chemistry lesson. Prone to night terrors and bouts of sleep walking, she had been known to explore the house aimlessly, once spooking her mother by materialising through their wardrobe. After some talks with her family, she agreed to transfer from her own Midtown High to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
A member of the team and a full-time student, at times Kitty is forced to be in two places at once. That suits her fine though. Her teammates have welcomed her into their arms. There's nothing she'd rather be doing.
| Attributes | the X-Men are comprised of a number of unique mutants. Afforded their abilities by their genes, they manifest (for the most part) during puberty. Below is an outline of their individual gifts.
Weather Manipulation: Storm's ability to exert control over natural forces manifests itself in a number of ways: able to summon lightning as a weapon, call down hailstorms, blizzards or draughts, trigger an April shower or a monsoon, the extent of her abilities lie in her own creativity. Commonly, she will call upon great winds to carry herself (and others) through the air also.
Weaknesses: Her main limits stake their claims within her. Her powers can be triggered by mood, independant of constant thought. When she becomes sad, the heavens weep with her. When angry, thunder and lightning rips through. To fully control her abilities, Ororo has first to control herself.
Propelled Movement: Beaubier is able travel at great speeds on land, underwater and in the air. By focusing he can hover by exerting his force consciously.
Photokinesis: able to illuminate in darkness and fire concussive blasts from his hands, Northstar has a limited control over this own variant waveform of visible light.
Teleportation: With a short *bamff*, Nightcrawler can teleport, smoke meeting his exits and entrances, accompanied by what can only be described as the smell of brimstone. This ability's only hinderance is Kurt's own confidence; he is not comfortable, for instance, teleporting somewhere he hasn't seen before. Longer trips exhaust more effort that shorted ones. Kurt is also able to take passengers, making this ability invaluable at times.
Acrobatic Prowess: aided by his prehensile tail and his slight frame, Kurt is capable of great feats of acrobatics, something he used to practice among the rafters of his church.
Power Absorption: Once a blight on her life, forcing her to constantly wear protective clothing, Rogue can now, at least to some degree control the application of this power. Taking not only a mutant or superhuman's powers as her own for a short time, prolonged exposure drains a person of their lifeforce and memories as well. At times of great stress, Rogue does not possess the strength of mind required to keep this power in check.
Flight: a secondary mutation, Rogue has the ability to soar through the sky. Unlike teammates Storm and Northstar, this is genuine flight.
Strength: While not comparible to that of the heavy hitters of the world, Rogue packs an above-average wallop!
Super-Strength: able to lift items in excess of 70 tons with ease, you will never see such a cautious and contemplative user of such strength.
Organic Steel: Is able to protect himself and others by converting his skin into a sturdy metal exoskeleton. Impervious to many forms of damage in this form, it also amplifies his own strength.
Density Control/Intangibility: Kitty is able to alter her own density, allowing her to phase through solid object. When used broadly she can walk though walls and evade lethal blows. When used selectively, she can disrupt electrical equipment, among other things, the only extents are her own focus and her ability to think fast.

Cerebro: Built to amplify Xavier's latent psychic abilities, it amplifies the range and effectiveness of his power, allowing him to target specific people in the world. It is built with recruiting in mind, with mutant thoughts appearing differently to human ones.
The Blackbird: This is the X-Men's main form of transport. A custom made Jet, it features an autopilot feature as well as a cloaking device. It's stored beneath the basketball court.
The Danger Room: The X-Mansion's state of the art battle simulation room. This is where much of the students practical training occurs, and hosts an indoor volleyball league on Friday nights.
| Character Goals | Let it be said, right off the bat, that I love The X-Men. Adore it all. I've exposed myself to debatably every fresh interpretation, every animated venture, any ill-thought out cinematic endeavour. Chris Claremont's run, it could be said, influenced my mental perception of the team as a whole. It's probably why I favour the X-Members that I do. Hope I'm not over egging it, by the way.
Regardless, a number of stories stand out that I would love to put my own spin on or, more importantly, discard in favour of new ideas and interpretations. I plan on bringing the conflict to the Brotherhood and Human fronts and I have few interesting ideas for Mister Sinister in the works. But you need not worry about that. All I can say is, in my eyes these characters would have a safe-handed custodian in me.
I'm thinking of a DC character but she's not solo. Although I can make her solo. I dont like playing canons that are solo and doing solo posts a lot, it's not that fun for me. =/
It will have to be next week after I get back from my vacation before I'll have something ready.
Well I believe the back story, character goals and direction would all be taken into consideration before asking for a sample post if that was even deemed necessary. However I'll leave it for @Gowi to fully confirm.
References, backstory, goals/direction would be a primary focus. The GM staff would discuss the competing apps rigorously and then make a decision or request to see sample posts I suppose.
Just a last check as to whether anyone wants to play Hal, Kyle, Guy, or John? Because in such an instance I'll probably stick a competing Captain America CS up and if not I'll stick with Carol, but I don't want to squat on a second choice character if doing so will put somebody else out.
Just so everyone knows this: I am considering on writing Jade Scott eventually. So if someone is planning on Kyle Rayner (or any other core GL) please let me know so I can work it out that I can play my version of Jade at some point.
Everything seems in order, Henry. I look forward to Hellboy’s participation in events and reading his solo arcs. Accepted.
Carol Danvers, better known to the universe as Green Lantern of Sector 2814.
We’ve discussed this one a decent amount, but with the new developments on the OOC present do you plan on putting this one in the archives for now or are you still set on this?
Tracy Lawless (From Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Icon series Criminal)
Hoping I see a full story this time! Love reading your crime stories. Accepted.
Greg Saunders, the Vigilante.
Seems consistent and to the point. I’m sure you’ll do fine in the IC. Accepted.
Daniel "Danny" Rand-Kai A.K.A. The Immortal Iron Fist
As we’ve discussed I’m really interested how this one will differ from your other versions. Despite it being early nobody has mentioned interest in a competing app and by 10 AM my time I’m sure nobody will say anything. Accepted.
Richard John "Dick" Blake Grayson / Robin, the Boy Wonder
Hopefully both of us can be consistent with Batman & Robin takes here. Looking forward to the quips and whatever else you bring to the table. Despite it being early nobody has mentioned interest in a competing app and by 10 AM my time I’m sure nobody will say anything. Accepted.
I ought to be clear about what I have planned for Carol now then because I think it'll make it easier for whoever ends up getting Kyle. My first arc with Carol will involve her and Sinestro going to the Negative Zone whereby after a time they are presumed dead because they cannot be contacted. This could possibly facilitate the entrance of another human-based Green Lantern because ideally up to that point Carol would have been the only one but given she'll have been away it'll make sense for them to move to replace her.
