aye. Email notifications would have to have on/off settings, @The Harbinger of Ferocity. Not everyone desire, or need, email notifications.

@Mahz: Do @mentions edited into a post trigger a notification?

Of course, if anyone else can confirm/deny, that'd answer it too...

So something I've been wondering about - to what extent are the ads at the top of each page influenced by this site?

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for ads paying for the site, I'm over 18 and I have no qualms about seeing adult ads. My only concern is that there may be innocent minors drifting about that shouldn't see those ads. Examples of the ads are the ones that advertise single ladies/men are in your area. Though I do get corporate ads from prominent, real companies too - financing, looking for houses, holiday destinations etc.

From what I know, I can turn on/off, what ads I see by clicking that triangle flag at the corner of an ad. And if I go to a relationship advice site, I will get ads for dating. If I go to an electronics site, I will get PC ads. These ad triggers can carry across to other sites I visit. This part I'm familiar with.

But if the site has a clean RP titled "The Cookie Club", or say "Bond of a Lifetime", would it trigger adult ads? If so, should/can the trigger words be directed to show clean ads instead of adult ones?

Just curious and wondering if this should be raised as a concern. Then again, maybe that's just how things work and it's up to parents and all to turn on those filter things. *shrugs*

It'd be great to have an ignore button or command in chat. So you have a response to harassment less extreme than somebody getting banned.

Doesn't the guild use targeted ads based on your browser history?

Close enough, I suppose. It is stored in cookies, not your history.

Which means if you're seeing adult website ads, somebody on your computer has explaining to do.

Ah, @SilverRain, I apologize. I did not see your question. In response, yes, the ads are completely influenced by your browsing, as per our discussion. If a child is on the site, he or she will not see adult ads unless the child is particularly scandalous. The ads are not influenced by threads (unless Mahz has some abnormal integration, which I doubt), but may be mistargeted. For example, you go to a website to find out whom a certain celebrity is dating, and get ads for dating websites.

@LegendBegins - No worries. :) Yeah, that could be it - what with the difference between human perception and programs.

@Phantomlink959 - I need to buy a trusty pet to watch over this computer. :P

@Phantomlink959 Somewhere. It falls in under Mahz' plans for GM toolkit. His list of feature priorities isn't really known too well.

@Phantomlink959 B-but they say if I click on the ad, I will get a personal visit from Sephiroth where he'll give me flowers and take me to the dance ball! :P

Welp, I now got ads for budget kiddie clothes.

Now to wait for a Sephiroth ad. *summons* :P

@Mahz: Looks like that in PM-conversations, clicking on the thread title, it still takes you to the last post, rather than first unread post. People've been missing PMs on previous pages and being confused due to it.
As a side note, PM threads do not show user titles, either.

As for ads - a semi-harmless Google search can very easily lead to weird ads, in my experience.
