Violence Doughnut continues to be the best-named Esper ability bar none.

I'll be updating this CS later! (make it look prettier and all, y'know)

Gemstone

Etsuko Yagami

Nickname/Alias: “Suko”

Position: None

Faction: (Optional) None

Seat Number: 2

Nationality: Japanese

Age: 15

Gender: Female

Blood Type: O

Biography: Born in a dirt-poor household, Etsuko first lived with a very small wish. She wanted warmth to bless her mother, father, and little brother. She did not want to know why she lived in a warehouses and storage containers, or why they would have to run about and oftentimes abandon their newfound homes. Warmth was what she wanted.

When she discovered her ability to generate electricity, Etsuko’s dream came true. She brought a lovely warmth to her family. With her warmth, the family felt stronger together. She was happy. With her small wish having come true with a staggeringly powerful answer, the girl wished to make her parents happier. The electricity she was gifted with gave her enough strength to work for countless hours to pay off certain debts that threatened her parents. She worked endlessly, but her family grew happier and happier, so she felt satisfied with her work.

As the family grew brighter, soon, things became better for the Yagami family. Her father fended off the rest of the unknown entities that threatened his business life and eventually started to earn money once more. With less and less mean people going after her family, her mother started working at a bank. Her little brother was able to go to school, and so was she.

When she was identified of her unique features- both physical and moral- the girl decided to immediately accept an invitation that came from Hybrid Academy.

Personality: Etsuko Yagami lacks a lack of confidence. Overflowing with energy, she enjoys shifting through random phases of enjoying serenity and participating in physically demanding activities. She is a generally normal person… until one gets to know more about her. Despite being a bit of a looker, she sometimes exhibits strange actions that make others wonder if she’s a woman or simply a very pretty man.

Likes: Carbonated drinks, bittersweet foods, music, video games, sports, exercising, funny videos, spiders, people (in general)

Dislikes: Extremely sweet foods, any kind of drinking alcohol, class tests, being locked up in a single room, crickets

Skills: Athletics, playing video games, an unknown form of procrastination, cooking

Ability

Volt Driver (Electricity Manipulation): Level 4; Macro

Special SkillShock: Yagami can naturally energize her speed and power through generating electricity for her own body to use. The amount of shock given to herself changes the amount of speed and power she receives, as well as how long the enhanced effects last. In addition, she can exert electricity. Water does not harm Yagami because she can absorb electrical damage.

Signature MoveBrain Cleaner: Yagami punches the ground, causing a massive burst of electricity to erupt from the ground in a large cone towards wherever she is facing. Alternatively, if there is a ceiling above her, she can jump and punch it to cause a bolt of lightning to strike objects around her. The thunder that falls from the ceiling is noticeably stronger than the electricity that erupts from the ground.

Disadvantages: Yagami’s electricity is not that effective against ice. In addition, snow decreases the range of her electricity-based attacks in general. Unlike most powerful Espers, she does not have actual ranged attacks aside from her surface-reliant attacks, which she makes up for with her ability to enhance her speed.

Extras: Etsuko sometimes names random things a bit differently for no real reason. Sometimes she may call breasts “lumps of fat,” and other times she may call bread “lumps of digestible dairy things.” This occurs only once in a while, though.

Non-Gemstone Espers get their powers through the Power Curriculum Program rather than discovering that they're naturally superpowered.

Being an esper means owning your own version of reality, which often happens during a child's developmental years. Many espers DO gain their powers in school, but usually the basis is already in place, and it's not unheard of for a child to learn to use it themselves. Notably, Accelerator could use his ability since before his school years because of Reflection's instinctive nature.

Pretty sure Accelerator went through the PCP as well. He just didn't go to school normally like everyone else.

Ever since the power development course had caused his ability to awaken, he was drafted into a special class.

Either way, if something can be taught, it can be learned by accident. Espers aren't given drugs or otherwise forced to manifest, so developing your power without help is more than just posible.

Actually, the artificial Espers are drugged, have stuff done to their brains, and get hit with all sorts of hypnosis stuff.

That's the Power Curriculum Programme. It's not actually something that is being taught, but scientific experimentation that modifies people to a point where they can obtain their own Personal Reality. That's why only Academy City had Espers. They had the scientific know-how.

“Shut up. If you couldn’t bend a single spoon after having various crazy things done to you like have drugs injected directly into your blood vessels or have electrodes stabbed in through your ears and into the brain, what could it be but lack of talent?”
Mikoto Misaka, Volume 1, Prologue

That's how non-Gemstone Espers form.

Gemstones just happen to be ... monkey on typewriters.

If a certain phenomenon has been caused artificially, then, as long as the same circumstances in the experiment are recreated in the natural world due to some factor or other, the same phenomenon will occur with no help from humans.
SS2, Chapter 6

That's why there's only fifty or so of them running around. Sogiita Gunha, Academy City's seventh-ranked Level 5, being one of them.

Oh yeah and Aisa, but she'll always be irrelevant compared to the guy who beats people up with an "Amazing Punch".

so you're saying that they took the entire framework they established in the first half of the series, where they clearly described how Espers gained their powers, and then said "No, we're just fucking with you, it's drugs"

that sounds so incredibly dumb that I can't believe the same person would write it.

No? It's always been drugs.

That's from the first light novel. The one that started it all.

It's drugs, New Age hypnotism and brain rewiring.

That's how they get their Personal Reality, and where they go from there depends on their potential.

Guys

I can easily edit the thing you know lol (particularly the reason why I stated that the CS was a WIP rather than immediately touching it up). The Wikia states that all (real) Espers come from Academy City, so I can edit things accordingly to that information.

I'll go with the Gemstone route. Too many things to change if I go with a regular Esper x_x

Edited the CS. I think it's complete now (Aside from wallpapers I might make for her)

So here's a thing I got around to finishing even though I said it would be finished by a few days ago. Overall I like how it turned out, even if she's consummate support and the magic system isn't as neat as the one I planned for a certain someone else who might be showing up eventually.

Got bored, figured we could use this.

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CQuPIi..

As of current both Etsuko and Anderson have the same seat.

So they'll have to fight it out.
