Biography
Sella is one of those increasingly rare occurrences in which an occupation-based last name actually indicates the family members' occupations. Naturally, it comes as no surprise that her family consists of skilled smiths. She was born and raised in a port town in Finland, among the families of the other members of her family's magic 'cabal' of sorts. Different from traditional cabals, rather than devote their efforts into devising spells based off of a specific mythos, they specialize in the construction of magical tools for other cabals around the world. So instead of magicians, really it would be more accurate to say that they're a bunch of magical arms dealers. Naturally, Sella's upbringing included the necessary training in order to initiate her into the magic side and mold her into a capable member of their group. In that regard, their expectations had been completely exceeded.
From a young age, Sella displayed great talent in the cabal's craft and, as the years passed and her talents were refined. However, she had also become a bit more than a simple prodigy: she had become a zealot obsessed with constructing tools. Her alien mindset born from idee fixe alienated her from her family and peers, but that didn't bother someone who didn't think much of others in the first place. What bothered her was her own dissatisfaction with her capabilities in spite of her prodigious skill. The efficiency of a traditional forge was insufficient, the accuracy of hammered metal was insufficient, the quality materials was insufficient... There had to be a better way to bring forth the ideal result envisioned by her mind. So she kept refining her skills. Mastery born through endless repetition. But even that wasn't enough. It seemed that no amount of crafting skill could reach perfection.
But that was fine. A mortal may despair, but a magician could adapt. So, drawing from the power of mythic blacksmiths and the properties of magical forges throughout legend, Sella devised a personal magic format by which she could achieve the ideal products, albiet not in the way she would have preferred. A few years passed and, despite showing no interest in joining Hybrid Academy or really any schooling at all, Sella was enrolled into Hybrid Academy. However, that's just a side-effect of her real purpose here: her family owes somebody in Academy City and didn't want to send anyone normal.
Personality
Absentminded, Stoic, WorkaholicA girl who possesses a complete, singleminded devotion towards (or perhaps obsession with) the concept of creation. A metalsmith from birth who forever forges not for the sake of battle or profit, but simple, selfish reason of "because I can and want to". A mentality that's hard to read and almost wholly indifferent to most outside stimuli. Yes, Sella is definitely somebody who possesses a personality that's difficult to deal with.
She's oblivious to social cues and what's going on around her and, being largely unable to read the atmosphere or understand the feelings of others, she isn't all too good with most-if-not-all social situations. Unsurprisingly, she's pretty terrible at expressing herself and mostly just says whatever comes to mind when spoken to, which often doesn't help her properly convey herself. It's probably for this reason that she both loves and cannot understand the concept of using abstract images while still having others understand the underlying meaning. A passionate artist who doesn't get art at all, basically. Either way, she isn't really opposed to socialization and doesn't go out of her way to avoid conversation, even if she doesn't go out of her way to start it ether. She's introverted, not reclusive. So yeah, it's definitely hard to talk to her, but not impossible. But let it be said that inviting her to an art gallery is a terrible idea.
If Sella does have anything going for her its her meticulous, hard-working nature. Even outside her area of expertise, she displays fastidous efficiency along with an absolutely insane work ethic in her dealings...Although, that's probably just so she can get back to what she really wants to do: working metal. Naturally, she takes pride in what she makes and, despite not asking for it, absolutely adores when others validate their worth. If something like that does happen, though, she'll just work even harder in an attempt to one herself up and earn even more praise. Basically, an endless loop of satisfaction and dissatisfaction that only stops once Sella forgets why she was forging in the first place and just resumes hammering out metal for its own sake.

Combat SkillsUtility Skills- Blacksmithing - With countless hours worth of experience hammering out metal into something pretty to look at under her belt, Sella possesses savant-like command of the forge and superior expertise in most subsets. Specialty lies in creating and repairing tools and weaponry. Lacks sufficient knowledge of coinsmithing to reproduce currency, thus avoiding economic inflation. Only capable of folding Nippon steel 10^34 times, just barely matching the capacities of traditional Japanese swordsmiths. As a side effect, engineering knowledge prerequisite for the creation of tools is also possessed.
- Cooking - Sella possesses extreme proficiency in the art of putting ingredients together and making the result not taste like crap. Although it's something trained mostly out of necessity, there is definitely a non-zero chance her interest in the activity is based off its similarity to making things at the forge.
- Lifting - Capable of carrying up to around 300 pounds because metalworking is really strength intensive. Does not actually lift, so the fragile masculinity of Academy City's male student population has been preserved.
- Mythological Knowledge - Knowledge of myth, legend and folklore, natch. A necessary ability for someone like Sella, who takes commissions from a multicultural magical customer base. It goes without saying, but her specialty lies in information regarding magical tools and their abilities. With her expertise, Sella is capable of recognizing and remembering a tool's function with a few looks at it. The difficulty part is actually getting her to see it in the first place.
Innate Traits- Germanic Efficiency - Efficiency stereotypically possessed by full-blooded native Germans. Not actually 100% German nor in Germany raised, so in that respect this trait ought to be called 'False Germanic Efficiency' or 'Only Like 7% Germanic Efficiency'. Through sufficient application of self-discipline, either time taken or materials used are halved. In addition, it is possible to maintain focus and shut out distractions, and continue even when the body has begun to fail.
- Memorization - Ability to remember important things, like phone numbers, lessons, and that horrible thing you did that one time five years ago. However even with this skill, Sella is a pretty abstracted gal. But while it's true that she might not remember your name the next time you talk to her, when it comes to things relevant to forging or magical items, she can recall it in an instant.
Magic
Attendant of IronA ritual, or more accurately a series of bodily modifications, that draw power from three concepts found in myth and legend, channeled through a magic circle engraved on her back: the 'archetypical artificer that creates heroic arms', the 'special forge used by a legendary smith', and the 'act of using human sacrifice(the soul) as a component to improve the quality of an artifact'. As a result, Sella's mind and body take the role of the smith and smithy in order to expedite and optimize the manufacture and enchantment processes for the construction of tools, both magical and mundane.
The ritual grants Sella the capability to apply magical energy in order to mold component materials into a desired product based on a blueprint stored in the mind. However, mana only replaces the construction process and imprints the necessary magic formulas; it does not create from nothing. Thus, external materials are required to create the physical form of a product. While human modification is possible under the purview of this magic format, but efficacy of higher-tier modifications is outmatched by the dvergr due to Sella's lack of technical knowledge.
The cost of the ritual is roughly equal to half of what it would take to create the object without the assistance of magic. Therefore, to make the spell more efficient, one must refine their mortal rather than magical aptitude. If the cost becomes too great or one wishes to preserve energy, the user can stop the process and continue later to no detriment. Because it applies simplified magic formulas rather than configuring effects via ritual, it is possible to create objects of a system the owner has no applicable magical knowledge of. Objects still require the relevant knowledge in order to be
used though and the mana cost remains the same as enchanting an object nromally.
The ritual is broken down into five stages:
- An image in the mind is formed of the desired object.
- Mana is applied to the magic circle and modifies the body to withstand high temperatures and metal-warping impacts takes place. This is a sustained effect.
- Materials are analyzed and prepared. Metals are heated, wood is shaped and cut, etc. In conjunction with the previous step, it is possible to stop the ritual here and shape the object manually by using the body as an anvil.
- The physical framework of the object is formed and refined.
- The object is imbued with the appropriate magic formula
Naturally, when it comes to the power of magic items, Idol Theory still applies: the closer the component materials to the original, the more effective the resulting replica. But if this is the case, one can't help but wonder...
Hlaejandi VolundrA pair of mechanical wings based on the ones that Volundr used to escape the wrath of King Nidhad after impregnating his daughter, Bodvildr. They grant the wearer the ability to fly at speeds slightly faster than that of a contemporary projectile. In this case, 'faster than a speeding bullet'. In addition, it grants protection against projectiles and deploys an illusion of being shot down after mounting a successful defense. The wingspan is roughly equal to Sella's armswidth, but it folds into a conveniently carried backpack-esque form.
