@jasonwolf Well, TBH, I didn't expect to get a gardevoir to start with. However, I wasn't sure if we were going to be playing as experienced trainers or new trainers. As for starters, we don't have any source material to really go off of. From what I understood of the anime, it was simply whatever the pokemon professor had available at the time, and the starters varied depending on what pokemon were around the lab. The games really aren't good source material for this kind of decision, as the starters available in the game are made with the intent of being part of a balanced game from what I can tell.

My own suggestion would be to create a RELATIVELY large pool of base form pokemon. Choices like Pikachu, Ralts, Chikorita, Ekans, Mysdrevious and so on. My own reasoning for this is that I'm sure most people have a favorite pokemon, and a large list of base form pokemon to choose from would be both simple and give people the option to get their favorites, so long as they aren't legendaries or pokemon such as Kangashan or Lapras.

However, this is my opinion, and I'm stating more because I'm rather bored at the moment, than any attempt to sway you.

@needlingAsklepios Experienced, but low rank. The trainers have a basic ranking system of Oak, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master. The trainer head of the starting town is only Gold. Everyone is Bronze or lower for players.

The thing about starters is I want them to all be local pokemon. No one will start with spheal sorry. Yes I could see ralts here so that'd be fine probably. If I use them then I want them to add to setting. I may end up just listing those that are not allowed in the end. Really the other main thing about picking starters is it can make people try something new. I used to ONLY use charmander when in an RP with that as an option. Then I got stuck with squirtle once and the story was legendary.

So let me propose a challenge to you sir. get that ralts later. start with a pokemon who you'd never think of using as your starter.

Haha. You might be right. I think the romance of it (metaphorical romance) is that I always liked to do solo-pokemon challenges using Ralts. I replayed sapphire so many times just to do that.... <3. I don't feel as though there is anything more fun that taking a single pokemon, using it and only it to beat every single gym leader, then finally managing to beat the elite 4. Even in a video game, it just feels awesome.

Hmmmmmm..... Truth is, I don't know of any pokemon I wouldn't want to start a journey with. Execpt perhaps something like litwick -_-. But those little things are just kinda stupid IMO. What kind of pokemon is a glorified lamp? :P

Maybe I could raise F.E.A.R.....

MUST THINK.

@needlingAsklepios Well mind you this versatility is the best attribute for pokemon here, but hey think on it.

Hmmmm.... Perhaps Mareep? I've always enjoyed Mareep. So fluffy..... And yes, I understand that a single pokemon only would be impractical for this rp, and I don't plan to go that route. However, when it comes down to it, I probably won't keep more than 3 on me at any given time. I never really have, in rp or the game. So, hopeful endgame party for me would be Gardevoir, Ampharos, and Salamance. But that's just me.

And that's just me RIGHT NOW. Everything I've said up to this point could change except for Gardevoir being my favorite.

So. Whats up with you Jason? What are YOU going to use in this? Will there be one BIG enemy that we are fighting against? Without Gyms or the Elite 4 (I assume) What will be our major goals?

@needlingAsklepioshave you ever done anything with the pokemon mystery dungeon series? Occasionally I will be supplying missions which will be more open area for you all to try and complete a task and at the same time are free to wander around catching and battling.

On the other hand there are times where the plot will be far more tense and important that you'll be needed for certain events. An example that won't happen, but is the same kind of idea is a massive wildfire breaks out around the town, and you all have to find a way to protect the town AND the forest. There are some groups that aren't exactly great people, but the one closest to a true antagonist isn't really that big. They are sizable, but no massive army ready to charge in.

But there are in a sense Gyms. Every trainer base (one per city) will communicate with others, and it's known to happen that a trainer or two will practice against other trainers from other towns to share experiences/skills. If we go to another town and up to three players (in which case it's a 3v3 battle) could take on the local trainers for a friendly match. This would not be the focus, but rather something for people to do, and a possible side plot for ONE character. I don't want to see a bunch doing EVERY trainer battle, but if one person wants to have that as a side goal they can.

As for me since this group is looking good and big I'll be the Trainer Head aka your commanding officer, MAGGOT! joking aside I have a good old character to pull out for this. His starter is a Treeko, but it's a Sceptile now. Jaklo specializes in the local pokemon (as you might expect), and has a collection all from the area:

Sceptile, Yanso
Kabutops, Pierce
Braviary, Walt
Absol, Eli
Tediursa, Dalton
Buizel, Baron
Scolipede, Visp

BUT he also has pokemon from the urban areas. These regions are dangerous of course since they are the crumbling ruins of old society, but certain pokemon have moved in there:

Nidorino, Pax
Magneton, Vop
Haunter, Plasim
Houndoom, Riff

(sorry for the delay, had a busy weekend!)

I love rock, ground, grass, and bug types the most, and other earthy types like water and flying too.
Normally pokemon with unique abilities or strong defensive characteristics.

But if I had to make a pool to pick from for this roleplay, I'd likely pick from:

Bulbasaur (<3)
Cubone (<3)
Geodude (<3<3)
Mr. Mime (my one true psychic pokemon <3)
Vaporeon (<3)
Krabby (since Castform is likely a no-no)
Any bug pokemon <3

I'm also willing to make any accommodations to fit the storyline better :3

But I would really prefer to only have one, maybe two pokemon max. :)

@jasonwolf Heya! I was just going to throw my interest in the pot, since I have a soft spot for the Pokemon. If you already have all the players you are looking for, that is fine! I would mostly be looking for character/pokemon interaction in this game more than the battling aspect of it (though that is quite cool too!) also I think the world is very interesting and hope to explore it!

As for favorite type, probably: Ice, Steel

Sample Pokemon off the top of my head would be Honedge, Swinub, Grover* off the top of my head that would make interesting companions from the beginning.

*= I mean Snover, but Grover is now the preferred nickname for said pokemon.

Mystery dungeon games are fun <3 gave my my love of turtwig actually.

I'm thinking vulpix, if that is available for a starter. I've always loved the thing, its so cute 0.0

Hmmmmmmm. The trainer battles, especially 3v3 sound interesting. Could be really fun if two of the trainers were super offensive pokemon, E.G. Weavile and Absol, and the third used a defensive strategy. Say.... Weavile and Absol launch attacks while Glaceon uses Ice type attacks to defend them. Ice beam to freeze water attacks mid flight, Blizzard to obscure their opponents vision momentarily, or barrier to help defend against physical attacks. I always thought that double and triple battles were way to limiting in the games.

@c3p-0hIC will not start until after nov 5th. This is my busiest two weeks of the year i cant start until after. I'm trying to get the ooc done bit again busiest time of year. At the latest look at the 6th or 7th for the ooc.

@Izuriel Steam cubine and me.mime are the only ones I'd say don't fit Letchworth. Cubone is dry desrt and mountains while Letchworth is a forested river valley and gorge. Mr. Mime is well just a bit hard to pin down. I'd expect him in urban areas i suppose.

Besides that yeah. Lizard, rock, fox, crab, and bugs that sounds like Letchworth.

@Izuriel SteamNo not really mostly mental on that. As i said in the op i have been writing this for years. Basic set up is based on the old village system. Outer ring is farm land open easy to watch territory. Next is the housing everyone goes out to work or in for the town. Next is the business (you either trade goods or services.) The center of town is the trainer hall which is basically all the services. Town hall, hospital, jail, and more.

Besides that there is a NSEW break up of the farms.

North is grains, east is the orchird, west is vegitables, and south is cattle.

Here are some of my pool picks, some of them are probably located in a different biome though. I'm personally keeping my fingers crossed for either Totodile or Poocheyna!

- Totodile
- Eevee
- Poocheyna
- Pidgey
- Houndour
- Growlithe
- Magikarp
- Fearow

And to help with that I think i can get together a sheet with some focus points, and maybe some stuff on Jaklo that'll give some better atmosphere. I just can't do all the work for a true ooc. Too many papers due. Staring at walls of info just hurts my soul right now.

@Redrumtotodile is sadly not viable Letchworth is new york, so winter makes it too cold for a croc. You might get one if we went to the Unova sewers (Unova is New York City in pokemon. Crocodile in the sewers joke).

Besides that houndour is urban and growlithe likely urban edge or sparse forests. Both totally viable.

Awesome, I've got a nice character idea in mind then. Thanks for the info!

I'm really feeling southern cattle farmer, possible growlithe starter, maybe their family could even be breeders -- raising growlithe or houndour/houndoom as cattledogs and what not. Hm..
