So while we wait on our august host to judge the contest (not shouting at you, Lug, I remember having to judge the fighting game contest), I'm kinda curious to see what inspiration y'all used for your evil character.

For mine... I just took Amy's personal nightmares (i.e. abandonment, being kicked back to her former life, losing her chance), combined that with the smallest push I could think of to unravel an entire story, aaaaaaaand the torture of being a hawk without vision.

Oh, and I threw in a healthy dose of torturing Plank, too. So. You know. XD

I took Trad's history and just made him pick another course after his sister died. Instead of protecting those who couldn't defend themselves, he would take the fight to those who were a threat leading to his eventual corruption.

My inspiration was just to gender flip Robert.

The idea was that because Robert was born a girl, she had a smaller build as a child. This meant that when flaming debris fell on her she had much more difficulty escaping it. This lead to much heavier scarring. Being a girl, she was also taught the social stigma that girl's should look attractive which she now saw as unattainable with her injuries. This led to deep mistrust of people and extreme paranoia, further leading this version of Robert to become much more villainous.

As I said before, the only thing keeping Robert from going full blown supervillain was simply having lady parts.

I changed it so Ben never got his second chance, then went Lancelot as fuck.

The obvious inspirations there are his Semblance and Weapon names (Dolorous Guard and Joyous Guard), which were both named after the same castle. Dolorous Guard was what it was called before Lancelot captured it, after fighting through a ridiculous number of warriors to do so. Hence why that's the name for a Semblance that gets stronger with more enemies. And Joyous Guard was what it called after he captured it.

Roundtable Order is obvious, but less obvious is the influence to his backstory; much like Lancelot's reaction to rejection from Guinevere, Ben didn't take washing out of the Beacon entrance exam well. And after a period of emotional turmoil, he dedicated himself to a humble cause. Except where Lancelot's cause was peaceful and stayed that way, evil Ben's was decidedly less so.

And thus with one backstory change you get Anti-Villain Well-Intentioned Extremist.

I just got rid of Gratia's family.

Bianca was killed by her mother because Estelle was distracted from her duties as heiress to their family with her. Estelle killed her mother and discovered a deep bloodlust inside of her that she fueled while using the excuse of punishing people like her mother, eventually conquering Mistral. Her semblance is stronger, but similar and she now carried Bianca's weapon as well.

Luke's a bit more maladjusted at the start and ended up never divorcing himself from his edgelord phase when it hit.

I would've made my own contest entry long ago, but life happened and unfortunately I had no energy or motivation to write my up dark version of Shiro.

My original intention was to also gender-flip Shiro purely for funsies. There's a point in his/her backstory where Shiro discovered that life is too short to be unhappy and depressing, which led to the canon male Shiro everyone knows and loves hates. In the female villainous, I would've merely reversed that having her give into her primal desires and base emotions.

He put a lot of effort into figuring out how to inject maximum edge.

I basically ripped Emerald's family away from her then turned her into a nutjob who thinks brainwashing is the solution to everything.

I actually didn't make an entry because I didn't know how to make Gren villainous without seemingly too over the top. Since he already kinda has the "Token Evil Teammate" thing going on right now, he's just affable about his villainy.

His villainous concept would have actually not really been evil, but more like "He's a villain because he is your enemy" sort of deal. That is to say, he stayed with the White Fang even after realizing their major faults, but instead of cutting ties he tries to stick with it and lead them in the right direction. A right, violent direction. He's also be less cheery and much more gruff. Tropes to describe him would have been "Knight in Sour Armor" and "Well-Intention Extremist", though I couldn't really muster up the number crunch for it. So sad.

For mine I changed one trait. I made Sapphire a faunus. With her father's extreme distrust of all faunus there relationship entirely changed. She became distanced from Oliver and Cecily (Brother and Sister) because Janus gave them preferential treatment. When Melanie died rather than taking out all his anger and frustrations during Oliver's hunter training Janus turned on his faunus daughter. Because of this Oliver's training was less extreme and he didn't feel the need to flee the family. Because Oliver was still present and because of the distance Janus had created between Sapphire and her siblings, the need that Cannon Sapphire has to protect her family was severely lessened. In the original backstory without Oliver Sapphire was all the other two siblings had between them and her father and they were forced to band together to survive. Because Oliver was still present and Sapphire wasn't as close to her siblings as she should have been, when she accidentally killed Janus she didn't have the sense that her family would protect her and she also didn't think that they would need her so she ran.

At this time Demetra was a child, no older than a year or two old. She never met Sapphire at a time that she could comprehend her and she didn't remember Janus' cruelty and so thought of Sapphire as a monster and decided to join Beacon so she could learn the skills to combat Sapphire. In her mind Sapphire was the reason that her family was fractured because she even when she was told what Janus was like the fact that Sapphire killed him, even in self defense promoted the fact that in her mind Sapphire was the bigger evil.

Napoli was fairly simple to turn evil. I simply granted one of his deeply ingrained wishes. Current Napoli thinks his life would have been so much better had one thing in his life have been different but as it turns out, his life would have been a lot worse. Of course, I also added some extra edge (gotta keep up with Gratia) and took some cues from Char Clones.

Kiran on the other hand was a random concept that I'd had ages ago, namely pushing the idea of him respecting Grimm even further and see how that would have happened. As it turned out, he became a wild animal.

I feel like there's a small part of mind that actually believes I have a chance at winning and so it continues to rock back-and-forth in the corner of the room while wearing its tinfoil hat repeating to itself, "It's possible. I could win. There's a chance," as it continuously hits the refresh button waiting for Lugu to post the results.
