I'm thinking about doing a roleplay where the characters return either to the surface of Earth after generations of living underground or travel back to Earth from another planet. It will be adventure with a bit of sci-fi and I will be allowing mythical creatures to be part of the roleplay as well as regular humans and gifted humans. Anyone interested?

@Aspen Wren: Both are equally interesting, and both are equally demanding as far as planning goes. I prefer the idea of returning to Earth from a different planet personally, but the other option also has its appeal.

Well I have a rather elaborate plan for that particular one but not for the underground start.

Lets see where this goes. What about a small sect that stayed underground? I was thinking of making a Steampunk inspired character who is gifted in the creating and implementation of unique and alternative technologies....

Especially if you want to go with a sci-fi theme, maybe the off-planet races view those who stayed behind as "hokey" and "primitive"

This is actually what I had been thinking about doing is having them make contact somehow and then meet on the surface to explore and settle on the surface.

And yeah, the slight prejudice with the return party being seen as cowards and soft while the 'natives' as perceived as "hokey and primitive" is a nice take. I already have an idea for someone from the space-farers.

Maybe there's a threat from space and a threat from Earth. Some extraterrestrial species could wage war on mankind from space while whatever force of fantasy - be it a monster race or a magical scourge - threatens humanity on the ground. That could drive some plot and force the two groups of humans to work together, and there could be some enormous drawback midway through the roleplay as a result of disunity. What do you think?

Those that flied versus those that survived...

The earth was on its last legs, she could not sustain the population burden as it was and there were too many plans on the table, so two plans were initiated at the same time. One had half the humans hid for a hundred years while the others fled to mars for the same. Perhaps with a century of no humans, the world would recover.

This will begin around 112,000 AE or after Earth for those returning and as for the antagonist I was going more along the lines of a sect of people who are no longer exactly human who remained on the surface.

They will have left Earth around 2100 BC or so. By this point in time most major cities and metropolitan areas will be completely colasped and there will have been massive ecological and economic damage by this point. The political systems are mostly helpless by this point after many many natural disasters and droughts. Earth is simply incapable of holding the sheer number of people. There is sickness that is rampant and not enough resources.

There will be small hints of sci fi more or less just more advanced technologies and such. Think like the technology in the book The Host by Stephanie Meyer that's briefly described there. Highly advanced medicines.

Earth by this point will be completely restored to pre human stats. I have a whole set of creatures I'll give you guys so we can interact and I'll be using a sort of dungeon kinda generator thingy that will guide those interactions so it's not just me. I will also be appointing at least 1 co gm maybe 2 since I'm busy on the weekends usually. Once I get home tonight I will put up and OOC and we can continue discussion there and work out some more details about things

And I recall mention of gifted humans. Will they be present in both the underground humans and the space humans or only one of them? How will that manifest?
