At current, what I'm seeing is that PETN has a relatively high flammable explosion point. So it can be burned easily enough without setting off an explosion. But if subjected to a rapid and powerful detonation shock it will go off quite easily. In fact a way to get rid of PETN and a few other plastic explosives is to put small amounts no more then 3 Kgs or so in the middle of a fire pit, cover it in wood shavings and douse the shavings with diesel fuel and set that alight. If there is a great deal of PETN needed to be get rid of, then several fires set apart from each other at the same time can be used.

There is still a chance (slim mind) of the burn causing a detonation. But the small amount of the recommended explosive shouldn't cause a huge problem.

Mind you the way the RP situation looks they aren't going to be able to burn all that separately. My vote? A few incendiary grenades, then run and hope it doesn't take the building down.

Blasting caps @BigPapaBelial. I have them, we have EOD Techs. From what I've read it also deteriorates very quickly if not stored correctly, which this is not. Not just that, it's got to be a shoddy batch, imbalanced if you will. So, in light of that, I make an assessment, get a Tech up there, they install the blasting caps, we run a wire. Boom. :D

Have to be a bloody long wire. I don't think we'd want to be in the same zip code of that if we use blasting caps. Still like the idea.

@BigPapaBelial, Take the reel and toss that bitch out the window. xD I ain't running that shit indoors. Get about across the street and a few buildings back and the explosion will be dampened to a degree that it won't significantly effect us. I mean, haven't you seen those explosions in Syria/Iraq? Only a few buildings down and the damage is minimal. It's the way explosions work. There's a reason exuberant amounts of boomy stuff is used during suicide attacks.

Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

Might be epic to watch, though cord would be difficult to use in a situation like that. You can still go ahead with using a shitload of detcord and something to blow it up, getting to the building across the road then leveling it would be a possibility.

An explosion like that, I'd be worried about shrapnel being in a helicopter. If it was the demo of support structures or vehicles I'd be all for it.
