"I suppose ambition in itself isn't a bad thing, it all depends what you do with it in the end. The same goes for being smart or brave, doesn't it?...Do you know a lot about magic already?I've read a few things, but I'm kinda scared about using it, really." Said lavender shortly followed by Anna's
"I've never had an experience with magic..."

Brynn looked over at Lavender,"Don't forget about diligence and kindness, except not a lot of bad will come out of those. Anyway, I read through the book of spells but that's about it as far as magic experience I've had. A whole half of my family is a wizard, even though it's only my mom and me, I still count as half!" She managed to blurt out before noticing, Lavender wasn't talking to her, nor even looking any-where in the compartment. Brynn followed her gaze out the window, noticing that the train had started, and that they were already pretty far out of the station. "hey we're moving that's neat, I wonder if the train is magic. she continued, tripping into another topic.
Really she was very interested in each of the different things, there were just so many of them that she had a hard time staying focused on just one. She'd never been on a train before, but she'd also never seen any real magic, or known anything about real wizards.
Thinking it rude to change topics, she began chattering again. "so um, Isaak, can you do any magic? I mean you probably can, but could you actually show us magic, like right now," She beamed at him, a chance to see magic was so great, at the moment it seemed like a once in a life time opportunity. The opportunity was of course not all about seeing any form of magic, there was bound be plenty of that very shortly, the grandness of it rest in the fact that magic was still a brand new thing that Brynn had never seen up close before.

"I think we're leaving now."

Terrance looks out the window eagerly, then back along the central passage of the train through the compartment door windows, then back to the window to outside. "Yup. Soon we will be able to raise our voices in a rousing chorus of 'are we there yet?' I can't wait!" He grins with excitement, eyes fixated on the view of the witches and wizards outside on the platform, merely a light preamble to the magical sights to come.

Bishop raised an eyebrow at Hayes, "Thanks, I guess?" He glanced around the train car, the small joke made him a little more comfortable around the two other kids. Bishop winced at the question, remembering that his mother was a witch, and a Gryffindor at that.
Thankful for the elderly woman's distraction, he nodded a simple yes as an answer.

Karen nodded. No point in denying the obvious: she was new to the sensation of having to interact with other children her age. "I am, though I'm hoping to get better with it soon," she said. "Not being able to communicate with others is an oversight that I can't ignore."

As Haley said his thanks, Karen thought there was something a bit strange with his response. "You're welcome," replied Karen primly. "As for my parents, my mother went to Hogwarts, as a Slytherin. My father went to Durmstang, however."

For some reason, she couldn't shake the feeling that the air had become a bit awkward. Then her mind processed Bishop's words and went back to Hayes's introduction.

Oh my god . . .

If her face had flushed red earlier, then right now, it was doing a good job of imitating a tomato. She scarcely heard the lady offering them sweets and simply replied with dull, wide-eyed nod. Forcing herself to look Hayes in the eye, she began stammering out an apology, before catching herself and forcing herself to calm down.

Inhale. Exhale.

"Mm . . . Hayes, I apologize for . . . getting your name wrong. I won't do it again, I swear."

Not even a day in and she had already screwed up; not quite the auspicious start she was hoping for.

Bishop bought a Cauldron Cake and hoped the too-friendly woman would leave the car. He glanced at Karen, and noticed her flustered expression. Bishop looked at the cake in his hands and Veil's head that was now peeking out of his pocket. He ripped off a piece of the cake and gave it to Veil, who was once again hiding in his pocket. At this point, Bishop no longer cared about comforting Karen like he originally planned. Now he was smiling at the thought of his little white rat eating cake in his pocket.

Lavender looked up excitedly when Brynn asked Isaac if he could do any magic. She was so terribly relieved to see that there were others who didn't have any of experience with magic. The headmisstress had told her there would be, but that's different than experiencing it for herself.
"It's nice to know I'm not the only inexperienced one. I assumed there would be others, but it's nice to see it for myself. No pressure Isaac", she said "but I'd love to see some magic, too!"

Lavender realised she had been quiet, and made a huge effort to get back into the conversation. It was just that she needed the time to wrap her head around everything that was happening around her. Fortunately, the others didn't know her personality yet, and didn't know how unLavender it was to be this demure. Ever since the train had started to move, and she was on her way to Hogwarts. All of a sudden, it seemed too much to take in and she caught herself wishing she was back home with her parents. Planning all of this had been fun, but now that it wsa there, she suddenly felt intimidated and small. She was happy to be in this compartment, though. It was nice not to be the only one who was new to all this.
She sighed and turned her attention back to the conversation.

Isaak thought about Lavender's question and wondered if they would be breaking a rule by using magic.

"I'm not sure if we're allowed to use magic while on the train, but I could do spell, my dad taught me this one" he said to them and took out a piece of candy and placed upon his lap. He then cleared his throat and pointed his wand at the sweet.

"Wingardium Leviosa" he said with a swish and flick of his wand and the piece of candy began to slowly lift up into the air as if it was being picked up by an invisible hand. After about a moment of causing the candy to levitate he let it fall back into his lap.

"That's pretty much the only spell I know right now" he said to them with a grin. It felt good showing off a bit to fellow students who didn't know how to do magic yet.

Cal chuckled at Terrance's joke. He seemed like a solid guy, and a good friend to have at school. But then he remembered, they might not be in the same house. He read something in Hogwarts, A History about a sorting hat that put you into your houses. His whole family had been in Slytherin for generations, and Terrance, just didn't seem like a Slytherin. Cal of course was expected to be in the 'noble' house of Slytherin, just like his ancestors before him, but it didn't really appeal to him. He realized he had been quite for a while, thinking about the houses.

"Do you know what house your going to be in? Hogwarts house, of course." He hoped Terrance would say what Cal was thinking, or making friends with him might be all for not, especially if Cal ends up in Slytherin.

Brynn's face lit up as the candy lifted off the table and continued beaming even after it fell down. That was a spell from one of the latter chapters in the book of spells grade one, they'd probably even learn it later that year.
"Isaak that's amazing!! That's way ahead of were we're starting, like chapter eight or something in the book of spells! How'd you get it to work! You must be very talented! Lavender did you see!! It was This far off the table!" She held her hands a little farther apart than how far off the table the candy had gotten.

"It must be nice growing up in the wizarding world. Not that the not wizard world isn't good, just, it's less magical." Brynn said whimsically, seemingly calm for the first time since she'd gotten on the train. Perhaps because for the first time since she'd gotten on the train she'd become afraid. She'd had friends for the first time in her life, and while she figured she was doing a fine job of keeping them now, she wondered if they'd be split up once they got to hogwarts, and that she'd have to start over again. It was a silly thing to worry about, just a thing that some how came to mind and made itself at home most unwelcomed. None the less she inhaled deeply and put back on a brave, happy, face.

"Do you know what house your going to be in? Hogwarts house, of course."

Terrance turns back to Cal at his question. "Yeah, I've thought about that a bit. And really, I'm not sure. My dad was in Gryffindor, but my mom was in Ravenclaw. I doubt I'll be in Slytherin...I mean, from what I hear, they are a bit more serious and elitist and less...I don't know...well, me. Though that said, they also still have their history of turning out the highest percentage of dark wizards, and I could technically see myself laughing maniacally over the burning corpses of the pathetic fools who dare to stand against me." He glibly says the last sentence with a look of semi-mock serious consideration, stroking his chin. "Of course, on the other hand I could also see myself completely ruining my dark wizard self's plans with a bit of dashing derring do and a generous portion of style, all 'YOU SHALL NOT PASS!' just before activating the muggle explosives I planted under evil me's feet, which seems like a fairly Gryffindor trait. Probably. And I don't really know what the heck the Hufflepuff traits are...the only thing I can say for some degree of surety, is that I probably won't be in Ravenclaw. As I said, my mom was one, and I really can't see me being anything like her."

"O that was awesome! I read about that spell but it is something else seeing it like this! WOW that was cool!" Inspite of her fears, Lavender was excited. Magic looked like a lot of fun!
She smiled at Brynn, who had suddenly gone very silent and realised she wasn't the only one who was nervous about all of this.
"Oh wow, we are actually on our way to Hogwarts to learn about magic. I wonder if any of us will be in the same house, or at least have classes together! I hope everyone is as nice as you guys!" Lavender looked over at Anna, who had been silent for a while, and wondered if there was anything she should do to pull her back into the conversation. She settled for asking "Do you think we'll ever get the hang of it all, Anna? We haven't even arrived yet, and I already feel like writing my parents." She glanced over at her bird and added, "I don't much feel for tossing April out of the window of a moving train, though. I guess I'll wait till we get settled in a bit."

Anna watches as the boy raises the lolly from his lap using magic. She had seen magic at work in Diagon Alley but not in such a manner of showing off as a skill. She wordlessly listened to the girls' excitement and chatting as she turned to look out the window. This was not normal, it almost overwhelmed young Anna-Jayne. In the background she heard chatting about houses they may end up in or friends they may get as she watched the rolling hills and valleys rush past them.

It was at the mention of her name Anna-Jayne was dragged from intently looking at the passing land.

"Do you think we'll ever get the hang of it all, Anna? We haven't even arrived yet, and I already feel like writing my parents. I don't much feel for tossing April out of the window of a moving train, though. I guess I'll wait till we get settled in a bit."

She gives Lavender a smile.

"I hope so, I've never been an under-achiever in school, or an average student but this is something new entirely," Anna-Jayne stopped herself right there before blurting out that she was scared. She hoped she didn't show it but she feared what was to come. That she may fail or, at least, not do well. This was the unknown and she wasn't a big fan of that

Lavender smiled at Anna-Jayne. She wasn't so different from her and Brynn after all, she only showed her anxiety in a different way. "I guess we all have our ways to deal with stress and the unknown. Maybe she just needs the time to get used to all of this. She seems nice."

Lavender thought to herself before saying: "I know, right? I'm not one to get bad marks, either, and I don't mind putting the work in. I suppose magic is no different? I mean, we are being sent to school to learn, right? We should be able to pick it up by making an effort, right? But still... it's one thing to change schools, we'd have to do that anyway. But this is so much more. It's like changing lives or something. You kind of just wake up one day and realise nothing is what you thought it was. I ended up looking in the mirror every once in a while, just checking if I was still me." Lavender giggled as she remembers her first reaction to all the overwhelming news she'd had.

"The headmisstress came to talk to us, and mum and dad were great sports about it. I've always been weird, and they are fine with that, somehow. I think they mind me going to school so far from home more than they minded my being a witch. Come to think of it, I don't think they were very surprised at all. They seemed to know what was up as soon as the Headmisstress showed up at our door. They seemed relieved as well as excited and nervous." Lavender revelled at this realisation, and realised she'd been too caught up in her own feelings to have eyes for anything else that was happening around her. This left her wondering exactly how much her parents had known about her history and why they'd never told her. She trusted her parents and knew they loved her, but still... She'd have to send April home soon after all, to get a few answers.

Isaak smiled and gave a small bow in response to his small audience's amazement at his spell. This was his first time showing off a bit of magic and from the look of amazement that he got from the others showed that they didn't see too much magic in Isaak's opinion. That made snese since most half bloods seemed to live closer to muggles and for muggleborns living with muggles was a given, which meant that they couldn't practice magic without a high risk of being seen. Isaak and his family since they were purebloods lived away from muggles and didn't have to worry about being seen as much.

"My dad is a pretty talented wizard so I take after him" he said. Isaak listened to Lavender and Anna talk about how nervous they were, but he wasn't and maybe a little bit calming would help.

"Don't worry too much about it all, my dad said that it's all just first year anxiety and that it isn't as bad as first years think it will be" Isaak said to them in a calm voice.

"that's neat." Brynn chimed vaguely.
"Um, what are marks?? Are they a normal school thing? I never went to any real school, I think my mum was didn't really think i'd fit in at a desk job anyway so there was no point." She continued contently, remembering learning all kinds of things on her own.

"But yeah, I'm sure it'll be fine. It's more like an adventure really. There can't possibly be that many ways to mess it up." She said, trying to keep up with the conversation.

She'd been doing pretty well up until about a moment ago of keeping up but now she was finding it harder and harder to think of responses. Questions certainly worked, but changing the topic so often seemed rude. How long had it been since they left anyhow, surely not that long. Part of her still wondered if it was a magic train or a normal train, she'd been on neither before so supposedly it didn't matter, but she still had a nagging feeling that if it were a magic train than it would be somehow more overzealous than a normal train. It dawned on her that she'd really not experienced as much as the other students , magical or otherwise. She'd grown up in a small cottage outside a small town, she'd hardly seen cars there for the lack of necessity. Would the wizarding world be that much different, holding a conversation wasn't any easier.

There was a distinct lull in the conversation, and Lavender saw Brynn looking at herself and the others. They all seemed at a loss for something to say. Just when Lavender thought things were going to get really awkward, the door to their compartment opened and a woman appeared in the opening. "Anything of the trolley, dears" She said, while pointing over her shoulder to a trolley filled with the most amazing candy and sweets.

Lavender got up to take a look. She recognized some of the names from her trip to Diagon Alley and smiled in relief. "I'd like some chocolate frogs, please, and a few cauldron cakes. Oh and a licorice wand." Lavender also picked something to drink and, on a whim, a packet of something called Every Flavour Beans. She paid the witch, smiled at her and returned to her seat. She opened one of the cauldron cakes, gave April a piece and started nibbling the rest.

Sitting there, nibbling her cauldron cake, Lavender suddenly felt out of place again. Being a full blood witch meant she didn't belong to the Muggle world. But having been raised by muggles, she didn't know whether she belonged to the Wizard world either. What if that was her future, never quite fitting in, always being too little this, or too much that... Always being torn between worlds. Being on her way to Hogwarts meant she was missing home, but at home she'd been looking forward to going to Hogwarts. Did the others feel the same way, was she simply anxious because she was living away from home for the first time? Or was she being torn apart by two different worlds? Could there be room in her life for both worlds? Could she simply decide that for herself? Lavender smiled as she remembered her parents' reaction to all this. They had been so okay with all of it, had they always known? Perhaps there had been room for both worlds all this time, without Lavender knowing about them.
This realisation changed everything for Lavender. She suddenly realised she had the chance to design her own life, and decide exactly how much of each world she'd include to make herself the best version of Lavender James she could be.

Smiling to herself, beaming with this revelation, Lavender suddenly realised she was still in muggle clothes. Her robes were in the bag she had placed in the luggage rack above her head. The instructions had been clear: put one set of robes in your hand luggage and put everything else in your trunk. Lavender waited for everyone to complete their transactions with the trolley witch before asking: "Is there like an announcement about changing and what time we'll be arriving, or what? When do we have to put our robes on?"

"Anything of the trolley, dears"
Brynn gazed past her at all of the odd looking foods. She had no idea what any of the items were except the things lavender had just gotten. She was curious to try wizard food, and having a few knuts and galleons left over she decided to buy a few things. "Oh, yes please," Brynn chirped "could i have one of those redish lolipos, and one of those cake things in the front," The trolley women, quite used to muggleborn students, was rather good at guessing which things Brynn was indicating. The women gladly exchanged them for the small bronze coins Brynn handed her before looking to the other students in the apartment.

Brynn was already picking at her purchases, wondering if the cake had magical fruit or regular fruit in it. After a short mulling over she came to the conclusion that it really didn't matter all that much. After the first bite it was obvious that the cake was at the very least magicked to taste better, it was sweeter and more full of flavor than anything she'd ever had before.

Swallowing the last bit of cake she glanced over at lavender, who she had noticed had said something. "I think we're just supposed to have on our robes before we leave the train." She said casually before giving the now purple-blue lolipop a try.

Though he tried not to show it, Cal stared somewhat wide eyed in awe as Terrance explained his view on the houses. Before Cal heard him speak of the houses, he thought he was a quiet natured boy all the time, but after he heard him speak this way of the houses, he thought differently. After clearing his throat rather obviously, Cal spoke,

"Not a Ravenclaw, eh? I was hoping to be one, but, my family doesn't come from a long generation of Slytherins, but, I'm afraid that I'll turn out as one, and be exactly like them, which, I definitely don't want to be like. Plus, everyone praised me for my positive marks in school, so I shouldn't see why I won't make it in Ravenclaw." Cal then realized how arrogant he was sounding, and tried to bring up another topic, of which he couldn't find. He was saved when a small, but plump old Witch came to their compartment with a trolley full of sweets.

"Anything from the trolley dears?"

Cal then rummaged through his pockets, and took out a small pouch. Though the pouch was small, when he shook it, it rattled with the sound of hundreds of coins, and there were in fact, hundreds of coins in it. He took out a two handfuls of gold coins and gave it to the which.

"We'll take it all."

Jay being extremely late runs as fast as his legs can take him through the wall marked 9 3/4. After pushing his stuff to a porter with a quick thanks he runs to his aunt and uncle and give them both large hugs.
"I'll miss you both....try to actually get along"
Both his aunt and his uncle chuckle and hug him back. His uncle is the first to speak. "Of course, and we will both miss you." His uncle gives him a large smile and lightly pushes the boy in the direction of the train. "Now hurry before they leave without you!" Jay gives another smile and waves as he runs and leaps on board the train.
His uncle looks at his aunt: "He is most definitely going to be a slytherin" His aunt scoffs and shakes her head. "No way he is going to be a gryffindor, he is more like my sister then your brother" His uncle chuckles "I bet 30 that he is going to be a slytherin like my brother" His aunt grins Deal, and when you lose I get to laugh at you"
Jay now on board pants heavily, fairly certain that that was the most running he has done since summer. He slowly walks through the hallway still worn out and as he does so Jewel's black and white head peaks out of his over sized cobalt sweater. The large snake is curled around his waist underneath the large sweater to keep her warm, positioned in such a way that she has her head by his neck. He pauses outside of a compartment with others in it, it looked fairly full but maybe room for one more. He rolls up his sleeves and hesitantly knocks outside of the 'doorway'.
"Hello, is there perchance room for one more or is this one all full?" He sounded somewhat confident, after all the worse they could say is that it is full. Jewel's black tongue flicks in and out of her mouth as she takes in their scents.

Terrance listens casually to Cal's thoughts, when a woman comes through and asks "Anything from the trolley, dears?" He was just about to take a look and see if there was anything he is willing to waste his money on, when Cal makes his statement.
"We'll take it all."
Terrance's eyes widen by a few orders of magnitude as he stares at the other boy...and his two handfuls of gold. "Ah, that's a lot of money..."
