I think we could go ahead and get this train rollin' as we're still accepting more characters. :) It'll take awhile for everyone to get a first post in anyway. Those of you still creating characters, don't rush! The ballroom doors will remain open for awhile.

I'll find some pictures and perhaps some sound, and start writing up the opening scene.

NAME: Lau Feng

ABSTRACT: Son of infamous opium gangster 'The White Snake'

DETAIL:
Feng is a name to be feared all across East-London; operating the largest opium operation this side of the channel; the family leader White Snake is known for both his strict code of honour and his mercilessness to any who dares cross him. But his son is another matter entirely.

Spoilt and petulant, Lau grew up with everyone he knew afraid of him by association with his father. The White Snake had an uncharacteristic soft spot for his lazy son whom he forgave and indulged at every turn. Lau soon enough turned to alcohol and later opium, quickly spiralling ever downwards until even his father finally took notice. Packing Lau off with a few retainers he was sent off to the country, banished until he could show some signs of maturing. Word from one of his informants in London told him that his uncle is trying to muscle in as heir to the Feng operation, Lau has resolved to impress his father sooner rather than later...then he received a letter.

@Discombobulate Very interesting! Feng is certainly approved. :)

To everyone: the PCs are the only guests at the masquerade. You won't find anyone else to talk to right now except Micawber, who is not wearing a mask and is not very talkative at all. :)

@Mokley Will try to get a post soon. So judging by the IC post are we supposed to start off inside the ball room, with us already going through talking to Micawber to get in and all that?

@NorthernGR Right, feel free to go on into the ballroom -- you've all been invited and Micawber knows you all by sight, so even if you forgot your invitation you should have no trouble. ;)

I will also say that this story could go a totally different way depending on what the characters do.

I'll get my character in on the action some time on the morrow. Maybe Scholarly Adventurer?

This is a silly thing, but I'm assuming that Max actually does practice illusion magic. Like real magic. Or should I leave it ambiguous?

@Rhymer Ah, good question! Sorry, but as far as your character or anyone else knows, magic doesn't exist. There will come a point when you all will have the opportunity to obtain that skill though! In the meantime, you can assume he does whatever you can think of, but there's always a trick to it. ;)

I'd step in quickly, separate from the story posts, to describe what she finds.

Same thing if anyone really wants to try to get Micawber to talk, or do any other investigating, or set something on fire, or .... I'm not making suggestions, just giving examples. ;D We won't have to wait a whole round to find out what happens, I'll play along.
