Hey guys!

This is just a very rough, very basic check to see if anyone would be interested in a roleplay based in Scandinavia, set sometime during the 13th Century. The roleplay will be based off the TV Show Vikings, as I've been watching it recently, and it's what inspired me to do something Norsemen-themed.

As well as having watched the whole nine-episode season in about two days, I've also got a decent grasp on Norse Mythology, and I'll be doing a lot of reading into how Viking Society actually worked, before I get this RP up and running - to try and make it as accurate as possible, whilst still being enjoyable!

Anywho, I don't really have any plot sketched out as yet, other than the basic idea of having the RP be based in a Viking Village somewhere, with the men (and some shieldmaidens) going off on raids every now and then on 'plot arcs'. There'll be a lot of NPCing, and people are welcome to play multiple characters if they'd like.

Anyways, yeah - that's it, so far! I hope this gets interest, and.. if you are interested, feel free to chuck plot ideas at me through a PM, or just post them here!

Depends on how well you do it. However, your expertise on Norse mythology won't really be needed if this is taking place in the 13th century, because Scandinavia had been mostly Christianized by then. So basically we'd be playing a village of oppressed peasants since viking raids had ended hundreds of years before the 13th century.

Having some historical basis in the RP would be nice as well, something similar to the Vinland Saga manga series, which I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the Viking television series to read.

Then again, having a divergent timeline could be interesting. Alternate history can be awesome, if done correctly.

Oh. Well, the 13th Century might be a bit late, then - because I wanted this to be set during the time of Viking Raids, when they still worshiped their old Gods and had only recently begun raiding England.

Anywho, nice to see a little bit of interest - I'll wait around to see if we get anymore, so we can get this thing moving to the later stages of pre-development!

This could be interesting. I haven't done anything like this before. Also, I don't claim to be a history paragon or anything but I think the 'viking era' so to speak was around the 900s AD and probably even before that.

Okay.. well, obviously I don't know as much as I thought I knew. :u

So, somewhere around 900 AD it is! Happy to see more interest, but I might still wait around for a little more before typing up a 'proper' interest check - which should hopefully attract more writers!

This could end up very nicely. But are we going to use the viking's religion as plain superstition or actually include mystical events in the RP, as a sort of deus ex machina or as plot twists?

I think we'll keep it realistic, and historically accurate, so it'll just be superstition. :P

I'd be interested. As for the time period, the 800s-900s should put us at the height of the viking age, if that is what we're going for. And the gods... I'm thinking the same vibe as the show ought to work well?

I'll get some sort of plot together/a proper interest check (or maybe OOC) over the next few days, so we can get this thing off the ground!

13 century is extremely late for a viking themed RP, I'd say 10th century (somehwere around 870-830, mid to late dark ages really) at the latest. But ya, I'm all for this.
