Subhas's old heart ached, putting great pain on his chest, but he managed to pull through without having a heart attack. As he looked for students that ran out, he would see two outside: Loralei, a popular teenage girl that could be described as a Mary Sue, and Teddy, a sixth grader who looked around in panic... What was he looking for? Then, Subhas heard moaning from around the corner, growing louder and louder every second.

Teddy couldn't find anywhere to hide in the whole schoolyard; it was nothing but an open area, albeit closed off by the gate, the only notable things being a tree near the southwest corner and all the buildings, such as the extra storage room, the cafeteria, the gym, the middle school classrooms, the band room and the main building with all the high school classrooms. Maybe he could run into one of those buildings? As the thought raced through his mind, he noticed Loralei, the girl who sat next to him and his friends, and the janitor, Subhas, behind him, having exited from the cafeteria.

Amidst all the panic, Loralei's asthma flared up, and she could hardly breathe. Her chest hurt immensely, and he inhaler was in the nurse's office... Soon, she collapsed from the pain, which was so strong she could've screamed. She began coughing loudly and wheezing, which alerted... Whatever it was around the corner. It was silent for a moment, before she heard footsteps. The footsteps began to speed up, and the moaning turned into growling.

Having no option to hide, Teddy looked back to see who had followed him out of the cafeteria. The girl who had come over to talk to him and his friends, Loralei, was here, and so was the janitor, and he was- wait. He was locking the door? Weren't there more people in there?

"What are you-" he stopped at the sound of Loralei's gasps. He turned to see what had startled her, but it wasn't that at all. She seemed to be having trouble breathing. Teddy had never seen an asthma attack before, and a chill overtook him Is she turning into one of them? How did it happen again? What did it look like? It all happened so fast...

"L-Loralei?" He wasn't sure whether to step forward or back, so he just stood there awkwardly, looking back and forth between her and the janitor.

Coughing never helped, but it was reflexive with all the gasping. Loralei spent a moment on her hands and knees just trying to catch a deep enough breath to talk. She wasn't trying for a long sentence, just something enough to at least let Teddy know that this wasn't like the coughing in the cafeteria. But when her asthma flared up like this...This was why she didn't do vaulting or floor routines for gymnastics. It was also what kept her off the track and field team and prevented her from cheerleading. She hated that they made her leave her inhaler in the nurse's office; it was the rule and she understood that - not that she was ever in charge of her inhaler after forgetting it at home on multiple occasions when she was younger - but she didn't have to like it. Actually, she hadn't given it being in the nurse's office much thought after the first week, but now it kind of made her dislike it all over again.

She sat and put her head between her knees, trying to calm herself just enough to at least keep moving. The office and the only way to stop the attack weren't going to get any closer.

Unlike the whatevers around the corner.

She looked in the direction of the noise; her shoulders heaved with every failing attempt to breathe normally. Then Teddy spoke and she turned her attention to him before realizing the janitor had gotten out as well. "As...thma..." she managed quietly as two separate words parted by a quick gasp.

Oh god did it hurt when she stood. She swayed from the gasps for air and the bit of dizziness setting in from oxygen deprivation. Her lungs burnt and her knees felt like they were turning into rubber, but she didn't want Teddy sticking around on her behalf only to get hurt. Locking her knees, she put a hand on Teddy's shoulder, and looked at the janitor then pointed at the main building, mostly because it was straight ahead. Hopefully one of them took the hint to just keep going.

Loralei doubled over - hands resting on her knees to help keep her upright while she continued to gasp for breath. "Right......be....hind.......you," she managed, each syllable separated by at least two huge gasps. One word answers were easier - faster sometimes - to manage to say quickly.

Okay, that was a lie. But she didn't want either of them getting attacked by those sick people because they were helping her. Or, worse, them luring the sick people into whatever kind of safe zone they might find because trying to control asthma was neigh impossible and loud.

Should the trio look to the corner, they would see not one, not two, not even three but FOUR of the things from the cafeteria, three students and a teacher, whom Loralei would recognize as Mr. Parson, her math teacher. One of the three students, the only boy, has his lower jaw dangling around his neck by a few threads. The two female students have their intestines spilling out, chunks of flesh missing from their chest and one of them had only one arm. Mr. Parson's left eye was missing, and his right cheek was torn open so, if one were to look, they could see the inside of his mouth...

The quartet of zombies stumbled toward the trio, Mr. Parsons going for Subhas and the students going for Loralei and Teddy.

Kansas' efforts to encourage the students to fight actually lowered their morale, one of the students even running to the back door to escape... Only to be caught by one of the zombies and dragged to the floor, the zombies ripping his stomach open and pulling out his intestines and stomach, the student screaming while the infected feasted on his entrails. It was only after half a minute that the student died, and, even then, it was from an infected tearing out his throat. The students could hear this sound, like air being released, before nothing... How disgusting.

Once they were finished, the infected stood up from their kneeling position and started to head toward the rest of the students, which were now Ken, Kansas, Irvine, and two other students, one male and one female.

Since nobody was moving, Ken had to act. Though he was against leaving anyone behind, people just weren't getting out fast enough. Perhaps leading by example would work best.

Taking Kansas by the hand, he begins to pull her as he runs to the nearest exit that had no infected near it. "Come on, we've gotta go!" He exclaims, more-so to Kansas than to the others, though to everyone nonetheless. "We can TRY fighting them when we know HOW to fight them! For now, we need to get to safety!"

It was hard to say where a safe place was in this school, but Ken's goal was the Student Council room. First and foremost, he needed to know that everyone from the council was OK, and secondly, it was the safest place in the school he could think of. On the top floor at the end of the corridor, it had a whole wide range of items within that had to be processed by the council for the clubs. That means whatever miscellaneous items were in there could be used to defend themselves. Additionally, there was the loudspeaker system he could use to hopefully distract the "zombies" and help get students to safety.

The two students, aside from Irvine, follow Ken's example. Irvine just kind of stands there, doing nothing, but the zombies turn their attention away from him and follow Ken and the others. Ken, Kansas and the rest of the students stand outside, the schoolyard spreading for a square mile or two before ending with the fence... Which hundreds upon thousands of infected were pressing their rotting bodies against, trying to break through and find any tasty treats that reside there.

"That's a lot o' zeds..." Ken mutters as he continues running with the other students and Kansas, attempting to find an emergency exit door close to where the stairs leading to the top floor of the school were. "Try to keep moving - if you're fast, they won't have time to catch you." He urges the others as they run. "I'm trying to reach the Student Council room. We should be OK there!"

With Ken's words, which were uttered while the quartet were running around the corner, the male student, who appears to be roughly eighteen years old and is very sickly and looks like the stereotypical nerd, stops and questions Ken: "The student council room? What on God's green Earth makes you think it'll be safe there?" The female student, an eighteen year old girl (who's a goth because Chris couldn't find any good photos that were just casual rather than OMG GLAMOROUS AND BEAUTIFUL) stops as well, but, rather than question Ken, questions the male student: "It's the student council room! We could use the intercom to alert the rest of the school!"

While the two argued, Ken noticed four zombies that were walking around the corner (due to reasons unknown, this is RIGHT before the zombies that are trying to attack Loralei, Subhas and Teddy go around the corner to eat them), and loud wheezing, coughing and gasping sounds.

@Simple Unicycle "Shh!" He whispers harshly at the two, though not too loudly, urging them to be quiet for the moment, pointing out the zombies who were going around the corner. "If you want to go another way, then by all means, go. But I need to get to the council room A.S.A.P. So you can either tag along or do your thing, whatever works." He tells the nerd boy in a whisper. His mind was only focused on the council members for now. He just HAD to get to the student council room...

The two go quiet, and the nerd, probably realizing he doesn't have a chance going alone, nods relunctantly. The things don't hear the four, and go on ahead... Then silence. Ken could now sneak forward, and would see Subhas, the janitor, Loralei, a fellow senior, and Teddy, a sixth grader, looking on at the things as they approached, not doing anything either out of shock, fear, chest pain or asthma.

Teddy got the hint, but he wasn't about to leave Loralei to die and save his own skin. "No," he said, "We can all get out of this." She needed help right now, and Teddy didn't think he was strong enough to drag her away to wherever they needed to go. The janitor might be able to carry her to safety, but the creatures were already upon them. They needed a distraction. Feeling guilty for leaving Loralei's side, Teddy cut around the approaching zombies in a wide arc so that he was to their side, then began jumping up and down. "Over here! Look at me!" he hollered, trying desperately to turn their attention away from Loralei and the janitor.

It took Subhas a split second to take advantage of the distraction the brave little kid had offered. Much as he hated to admit it, he had been paralyzed by fear and indecision for a critical second- so much was happening so fast, it was too much. He wasted valuable seconds gawping instead of acting as first Loralei collapsed and the another gang of the creatures came after them.

But once Teddy darted off to get their attention, Subhas was galvanized into action. He immediately bent down and scooped up the girl in his arms- he might be getting old, true, but there was still some iron left in those muscles. Besides, she was a skinny little thing. "Hold tight, duuude. We're gonna get you some medicine," he said to Loralei as he began to sprint towards the main building. He prayed Teddy would be able to outrun the creatures on his little legs.

Seeing Teddy jumping out and about was the distraction he needed to slip away, but... something felt awfully wrong about that... So wrong that Ken, stubborn as a mule and courageous as a fool, actually goes out there with Teddy, imitating him and doing the same as he was, letting go of Kansas beforehand so she wouldn't be dragged into the situation. "Hey, bozos! Over 'ere!" He shouts at the zombies, followed by some witty remarks he learnt from the cheeky protagonists of various anime and games. "Come on, are those your grandma's legs?"

"As for you lot, get going!" He orders those which had accompanied him thus far. "That means you too, little dude." He adds, nodding at Teddy. "I can keep these things busy, you just get to safety."

Ken and Teddy's distractions confused the things at first, but, after seeing Ken's larger group, went for them instead... As the things approached, Kansas was paralyzed in fear and couldn't move. As Ken and the rest backed away, the four things surrounded her, swinging their arms, pulling her to the ground, biting into her body... She screamed, whilst the things reached into her body and tore out blood, guts and viscera. They reached higher up into her torso, tearing out one of her lungs and, after discovering it was more like a whoopee cushion that a tasty meaty treat, threw it to the ground before tearing out her heart. It was only then that she died, after being brutally dissected by the things, and they continued to feast on her remains until there was nothing but bones, picked of flesh but still covered in blood, lying on the ground.

While the things ate, the six could run off or fight the things... Whatever they wanted.

(BreakingMe dropped out and asked to die, btw)

Teddy looked on for only a moment before turning to run, he'd seen enough in the cafeteria to know it was no good just standing there. Watching them take chunks out of that girl would only scare him even more, and maybe make him hurl. Panicky, he ran towards the first building he saw- the extra storage building. He figured he'd have a shot at reaching the door with the creatures distracted, but he still pumped his little legs for all they had.

When he reached it and had had some time to think, he figured it wasn't the worst idea- it was the least likely place to be populated. Still, this sort of place might be locked, and the janitor was running Loralei to the main building. He accepted the fact he might have to run to a different building, grasped the knob, and turned it.

[ooc: this is assuming he makes it to the door. I can retcon any bits out if the GM decides that something interrupted Teddy's run, or he tripped and fell, etc. and ditto for any future posts]

And Teddy found that the door was locked, not using a passcard or ID but with a deadbolt that was only unlockable on the other side. If he wanted to get in, he'd have to get onto the roof somehow... The things were starting to get bored with playing around with the bones, and the male student starts heading towards Teddy.

Loralei wanted to protest so much against being carried. She hated when her father and brothers did it, even if she was wheezing so bad she couldn't walk. She especially hate it now when it was a virtual stranger - sure she saw the guy around the school, but she didn't know him - and there was a threat around. He was old, he could die. Well, she could too, but if he died because he was helping her she would never be able to live with that guilt on her shoulders.

As much as she wanted to protest, Teddy was trying to distract those things and someone had joined him. She wrapped her arms around the janitor's shoulders, doing her best to help keep her weight balanced for him. It was the least she could do since he was saving her life. The angle she put herself at gave her a view around him...right where a group of those things took down another student and started eating her.

Loralei turned her head away, tucking it down so her face was pressed into Subhas' chest. She didn't want watch the rest of what was happening to that poor girl. She didn't want to have anything to do with those things. All she wanted was to be home with her family and for all of this to be a bad dream. It didn't seem like that would turn out to be the case.
