When Jordan asked his question many of the people within the town turned to glare at him. All of them now suspicious of him. The woman looked up at him no longer with a smile but rather a suspicious glance now. "Oh we house our young ones and elderly elsewhere. They tend to get in the way during the day." The woman answered changing her suspicious glance to a smile again.

Sven

Sven put his hand up to his face in frustration when Jordan asked his question. After they got an answer to it Sven ended up pulling Jordan aside and away from view of the townspeople. "You idiot, now their suspicious of us. It's gonna be alot harder to sneak into the warehouse now that they all know we have concerns." Sven said towering over Jordan with a frustrated look on his face. "Well I guess it's too late to fix that now, just try not to do something stupid like that again alright? I can't have this investigation end before I even got a look at the warehouse." Sven added. "You got any idea what really might be going on?" Sven asked wanting to know Jordans opinion of the matter.

Before Jordan could ask any follow up questions Sven pulled him aside with his companions a few seconds behind them. After getting a verbal smack down from Sven Jordan apologizes. "Sorry. Sometime I speak before I think things through. I'll try to be more careful in the future." Pausing to think about what little info they had Jordan thought of something. "This might sound a little crazy but if that story has any truth to it maybe that demon is still pulling the strings. I don't think a demon would die by some rock falling on it. It just seems like it would be stronger than that."

Benedict Kaspin and Theresa ot an Bol'hjar

Theresa was taken aback by how the woman acted. Taking out the potion out of her hat and ingesting it rather quickly, only for it to disappear back into her hat only a moment or so after drinking it. As if the hat held a portal to storage.

She then decided that that it was time to assess her surroundings. As she predicted the poor woman was scared half to death by Ben's sheer presence. That would be an issue in the future, assuming they went around picking up strays left and right like they had done with this girl.

She introduced herself as Piper. A name she had never heard of before. Theresa took a breath in and looked over to Ben, who seemed genuinely disinterested and seemed to sharpening his claws. "I'm Theresa." she stated, introducing herself. He moved her hand in Ben's direction.

"This is Ben. Sorry, if we scared you, we just- we heard you spring up out of the water and brought you in here when it started to rain."

Ben snorted, and mumbled something along the lines of "That hat must've been so heavy" as he fidgeted away. He was using a rock as a file now. Damn. His glowing white eyes moved to look upwards at the sky and the great reptilian man frowned hard. He was obviously not very happy about the weather's change. The reptile turned his attention back to the fire and proceeded to stand up to add more tree roots to the fire before sitting back down again.

"Thanks, Ben."

Ben grunted in response and flicked his tail closer to his body and away from Piper's half of the room. She looked very on edge, but not out of fear of Theresa or even him. She was alone in an alien place. He understood that, better than she probably realized.

"What's your story?" Ben questioned, his pupil-less eyes seemingly looking at Piper. "Not every day you see a girl launch out of a geyser in her sleepwear."

Cia

Cia hadn't noticed the creature come up behind her. She let out a scream "HELP!" as she was grabbed by the creature. After she was grabbed she tried to maneuver around and scratch at the things face with her sugar claws. She wasn't as quick as she was in her weapon form though. The worst part was she couldn't control when she would change into her weapon form.

Sven thought for a moment about Jordan's opinion of it. "That would certainly be possible. I think we are going to have to investigate later tonight at the warehouse when their active unless you would rather go right now instead." Sven said. At this point he was more relaxed, he was using his axe as a sort of can as he leaned on it. "And since you asked about my smell, I get to ask about your pets." Sven added wanting to know more about the man he would be working with.

The Trio

Three mages stood at the center of Rockvale and were watching the flag wave through the wind. All of them knew that the color which it carried could only have been caused by the blood of men and it disgusted them as much as the sight of a battle field which they had seen plenty of times before they arrived on the Continent and while on the Continent in the Northern Countries. Despite their hopes when coming to this land, the Trio had just encountered more war and death. The worst of their encounters was of a village whose populace had been starving for weeks because of the war in their lands. The Continent, despite being spoken of as a promise land, had turned out to be nothing more than a dream for those who sought lands of golden wheat and fields of flowers in a world of rotten corn stalks and muddy fields.

But they could not reminisce on the failings of their dreams nor the recurrence of violence in every place they went. ”Tia, go to that land bridge we saw from the hill above and wait there in case the man we are looking for intends to leave. Hak, go to the bar that man had mentioned and see if the target is there. I shall search the streets. If we find the man, launch a light into the air and stall for as long as possible.” the woman with a tome said as she looked at her companions. They couldn’t let the man leave without saving the Plains even if it meant he would be trapped here with them. The Trio split up and went their separate ways to find the man and his red bird. It wasn’t long before one of them found the man in an alleyway not far from the bar. ”By chance, are you injured sir? I can help you if you wish, I am skilled in healing magics.” The woman said as she noted he was floating in the air with two women, one of which had to be the one casting the spell.

Anne/Vent & Brunhilde

A Collab Between Mag Lev and Azereiah

”Oh, uh.. I’m Anne. I… don’t really know why he saved me. I’m not special or anything.” Anne said after looking at the woman who was helping Vent almost wondering if she was crazy or just hadn’t been paying attention when she had asked earlier. After all, the really hairy person who had entered the Tavern was really off putting to look at. Anne kept walking beside the woman and would have kept walking if a voice hadn’t called out from a street to the left of the three.

”By chance, are you injured sir? I can help you if you wish, I am skilled in healing magics.”

Brunhilde remembered to write down Anne's name and description in her journal this time, ignoring Anne's expression. A voice from the entrance to the alleyway caught her attention, and she turned her head towards the new person. Four ears... and healing magic? Brunhilde had never heard of people being able to use magic for medicinal purposes before, last she remembered, and she thought she was the authority on the potential of magic. She blinked in awe. She excitedly replied before either of the others had the chance to register that someone had made the offer. "He is, but... You said... Healing magic? That exists? Could you... er... Show me, maybe?"

A moment passed and she realized that her request may have been somewhat inconsiderate. The words poured forth like a waterfall. "I mean, please, help if you can! I'll pay if you want me to. I have money, if that'd work? I was going to take him to the apothecary, since I'm all out of medical supplies, but then you arrived, and..."

The woman held up a hand a stopped Brunhilde’s line of conversation as she opened the small tome she held in her hand. ”Why, there is no need to pay me my dears. I only wish to know one thing in exchange for this healing.” The woman said as she flipped to a page. She held one hand on the page and the other against Vent’s floating body and the words on the page started to glow a bright gold. They seemed as if to flow off the page onto the hand which was on it until it the page was completely empty and the words had transferred instead to Vent. They expand until all the words which had been written in small print were covering every inch of his body. In a matter of seconds, Vent could feel a burst of energy in his body as if his fight had never happened.

”My magics are of my making you see. The words in this book don’t quite ‘heal’ for that is beyond the domain of us mortals. True healing is only available to the Gods you see. These words simply provide the energy which one’s body is missing until such a time they had recovered well enough to pay back the debt. So when your body is back to its full strength, the words will take energy equal to that which they have loaned you today.” The woman said as she closed the book and stood up. Her book held words only for ‘healing’ and could not injure people no matter what was written in there. She had tried to torture a man using the book before in order to help a town only to find that the words would not injured him nor heal him when casted with any kind of hatred. ”Now then, I must know this one thing. Are you the man who owns a red bird dear sir? My charges in the Plain of Narook need your help if this is so.”

Brunhilde was furiously scribbling down every word the four-eared woman said on the subject, and described in great detail exactly what the woman and the book did. The University would be quite interested in this form of magic. She hardly noticed Vent trying to get up, and he tipped the balance of the air cushion, sending it gliding across the ground, blasting wind in every direction. At least, she didn't really notice until the levitation spell blasted over a stack of crates. "So your healing magic is a form of energy banking... Er, one moment."

She cut the power flowing to the spell holding Vent above the ground, and the cushion of air promptly dissipated. Brunhilde's journal made mention that she was alone in the Witchlands and needed to find a guide, and her excitement at the prospect of new and undiscovered magic disappeared very quickly. She turned to Vent, who was now on the ground, covered in dust. "I have no idea where I am or where I'm going, and I have no way to get home, so I may as well explore. You're in a town that probably wants you dead. I don't really care why she needs your help, but we both have a reason to go."
Vent stood up without a struggle and brushed the dust off of his clothing as he shook his head in amusement. This woman had just asserted that she was going with the mystery woman who had essentially healed him. It was strange how, in just one day, Vent had managed to get into a fight and then catch the attention of some woman who apparently needed his help. ”It is not like I can stop you from coming anyway. You are your own person and I really don’t want to be at the wrong end of that magic you have. Anyway, yes I have a red bird but the question I have is how you know this Healer.” Vent said as he looked between the two mages. Nobody should really know of Callie’s presence unless she’d been wondering.

The woman was stifling a laugh as Vent talked for she had realized that the girl who had been holding him in the air had essentially stated that the man had no choice but to take her along. This man was certainly a man whose personality was almost heroic but whether or not he could help them was to be determined. ”Yes, my magic is essentially an energy banking system. I was taught it back in my homeland but I’ve never seen others who use it. My name is Nia, by the way. One of my companions, Tia had seen you and your bird in a vision directed to her by the Spirits which told us to seek your help. It seems that the crystals the Plains are famous for are turning a dark purple and will not tell my companions nor I why.” Nia said as she looked north west. Despite the smile on her face, a deep fear resonated inside the woman of what it would mean if they couldn’t tell what was wrong.

”If a mage doesn’t know what is wrong with the crystals then how should I? I don’t know anything about the Continent than what stories told. But, I guess I’ll see what I can do.” Vent said as he rubbed the back of his head. There was no way he could figure out what was wrong with these crystals Nia had spoken of but he wanted to see these plains for himself anyway. At that moment, Vent realized he had left his bag and gloves at the Tavern. ”I’ll be back! Left my stuff at that Tavern” Vent yelled as he ran back towards the tavern to get his supplies again.

"Crystals... Crystals... Plains of crystals, changing color...? Hm."

Brunhilde pulled a book out of her backpack - an index for previous journal entries in the scroll she carried with her. The book was ridiculously thick, and she searched for mentions of rocks, crystals, and geology for a moment. End of term Geology 1770 paper, Sorviri standard year 212, the seventh day of the month of Coldsprout. Six years ago. Paper topic was the formation and structure of crystals, ranging from standard metallic and ionic crystals to the warm Water Crystals maintained by water mages in training to build focus. She scrolled at blinding speeds through her journal until she reached the text of the essay, which despite its incredible length made no mention of set crystal structures changing colors. "Nothing here about that. Guess I have another reason to go."

She bounced about excitedly, looking forward to the adventure, and noticed Anne standing off to the side. Seemed familiar. A few seconds of scrolling back to the current segment of the journal later, she saw that she knew this person. "You coming with us? It might be fun. At least, more fun than hanging around this place."

”Oh, uh… I don’t really have much of a choice do I? If I stayed here in Rockvale, I’d probably be hunt down by whoever takes control of this city now that Barrow is dead. Plus, Vent seems willing to pull me along but I don’t really want to be a burden. I don’t know how to fight or anything so I doubt I’ll really be useful on that front.” Anne replied to Brunhilde. She was unsure of where she would go after she left Rockvale. If she followed Vent, she would have just been a burden due to her lack of skills in battle and really anything on survival. The only thing Anne was good for was playing songs on the flute. Despite how little confidence Anne had in herself, she felt that it could actually turn out to be fun to learn more about the outside world.

Brunhilde tapped her foot on the vortex of air upon which she stood. Anne's apparent lack of confidence was a little saddening, and Brunhilde felt the urge to help her with that, although she had no idea how. "Oh, come now. You wouldn't be a burden at all. But hey, if it worries you so much, we could probably find you some sort of weapon. Never too late to learn to defend yourself, and I'm sure we could find some time for practice on the road. Though... I don't really know how to fight with weapons either. Ooh~, I know! Maybe someone could teach us."

She ripped open her bag and started searching through it for anything that would be of use. Her hoarder mentality sometimes came in handy. She tossed a series of knives and daggers from the earlier fight out onto the ground, some of which still had dried blood on them. The bloody ones were probably going to rust, but whatever. "Take one. Or two. Or more. I'm not sure what these were in there for or where they came from, but I'm sure I didn't have a real use for them."

Anne picked up a dagger whose blade was a mere foot and a half in length and curved after a few inches. It was an odd weapon whose origin she couldn’t place and yet it felt oddly welcome in her hand. The old, leather hilt and worn iron of the dagger’s guard felt to be perfectly fitted for the young woman’s hand even if she knew not how to use the weapon. Around this point in time, Vent returned and looked about at the dagger’s scattered across the ground. ”Where did all these weapons come from? Well, I guess it doesn’t really matter since some of these will be useful.” Vent said as he grabbed two daggers from the pile. One of the daggers was already rusted and the other was covered in blood which had turned a dull brown from drying.

As Vent finished getting the crusted blood of his new dagger, both Tia and Hak walked up to the group. ”So this is the kid who Tia’s vision told us of Nia? He seems so new to the world. What could he possibly do to save the Plains.” Hak said as he walked right up to Vent and sized him up. Vent, despite being a little over six feet, almost looked tiny compared to the nearly seven foot tall man who stood in front of him. It was obvious to anybody that Hak was no pushover and his blatant distrust of Vent was obvious from the start. He even ignored the other two women who had been standing not too far away to face down Vent. ”Let’s get going before I decide that Tia’s vision was wrong runt.” Hak said as he walked away. Vent stood still even as Tia and Nia left the alley. Anger was imprinted onto his face.

Brunhilde gave Vent a gentle push. She was irritated by the massive man's very appearance, let alone his attitude. "Yeah, he's an asshole. No, I don't like him either. I don't really feel like having to fight anyone today, so let's get moving, aye? With any luck he'll get eaten by a bear or something on the way," she whispered.

She pulled her bag back onto her back, and tossed the remaining weapons in, save for one - a foot long, bladeless iron spike, with a very large crossguard. It was probably a makeshift weapon put together by a bored wannabe blacksmith, but it seemed like it'd be useful if she were forced to fight on the ground. A cursory glance told her she wasn't forgetting anything especially important, and she set off to follow the trio.

Anne and Vent followed behind Brunhilde as they were led out of town by the Trio. The three up ahead talked little to each other, one only occasionally mentioning to another a particular part of the landscape they liked or a ship on the horizon. As the group reached a fork in the road which separated between a road running along the coast and one running further inland, the Trio stopped and Hak turned around. ”This is where you get your last chance to leave. The Plains are a three days walk from here but the travel will be almost twelve hours a day with two meals a day. If your weak bodies can’t handle it, I’ll leave you behind just as quickly as one would a lame horse.” He said as he looked towards the Brunhilde, Anne, and Vent. He especially lingered his eyes on both Vent and Anne though quickly walked ahead of the group. Vent ran to the front and walked beside him, he wouldn’t allow the man to speak down to him without knowing the extent of his determination. Anne simply stood beside Brunhilde and looked rather nervous.

Brunhilde felt like they'd all need Anne's company to stay sane, and she thought the girl could do with a bit of adventure to toughen her up. She took Anne's hand and tugged her along. "We're a pretty big group, and judging by how the energy in the air feels, some of us are skilled with magic, so we'll also probably be totally safe. Let me know if that asshole causes any trouble for you - I'll gladly dump him in a tree or something for you."

She conjured a wind at their backs to ease the travels, and began sketching a rough map with detailed pictures in her journal. It may be helpful later on down the road. She spoke to Anne again. "Word of warning, though. My memory isn't as good as it could be, so... If I ever seem lost and confused or anything, could you please help out a bit?"

Anne simply nodded in response as she and Brunhilde brought up the rear. For a minute, she questioned if any of this was even happening or it was just a dream. But, not even a pinch woke her up so Anne just took it as reality and hoped that she really was safe.

As soon as it had a hold on the princess, the monster would spin around and begin clawing its way back to the entrance, giving her no face to swipe at as it tried to drag her like a ragdoll. It didn't want to have to deal with the others. One at a time was best.

Its tail was thick and powerful, far stronger than the body of any python. With it coiled about the woman's neck, she'd have at best seven seconds before she blacked out from the lack of oxygenated blood to the brain. If it got outside and she wasn't awake to call for help, chances are she'd never be seen again. She could scratch at the tail, but she'd be hard pressed to tear all the way through the hide and muscle in time.

Jolly Gutters

A black horse dashes frantically across a muddy plain, struck with fear, the driving force in its legs.

A bolt from a crossbow flies through the air and strikes its side. It tumbles into the mud, crying out in pain. It halts after a brief slide forth, squirming in pain and struggling to raise itself off the ground. But it keeps slipping in the mud.

And as it struggles, a looming figure approaches it.

"Yeah..." Gutters says, approaching the fallen horse with a posse of Cleaver-Men behind him. "Yeah, you'll do..." He waves one of the group over, motioning towards the horse. The subordinate steps forward and crouches down, drawing a knife.

He cuts a hole along the horse's neck. And then he begins to gag, forcing himself to vomit.

A mess of black sludge and swarming insects drops from his mouth, onto the horse's wound. They immediately begin invading its body, spreading their filthy essence throughout its organs. Black sludge begins secreting from the horse's eyes.

And its struggling ceases.

"This one's mine..." Gutters says, approaching the horse. Behind him, behind the posse, the rest of the Cleaver-Men stand atop a muddy hill, many with afflicted horses of their own, the horrific blood of the Cleaver-Men coursing through their bodies.

Gutters smiles as he pulls a bell from his coat pocket.

Cliffside Alcove

Piper watched the brute put what looked like dirty, mangled twigs into the fire. It flared a little, but it was obviously wasn’t going to sustain itself for very long. Why were they using twigs for a fire, anyway?
The dragon, now known as Ben, asked her how she’d come to be shooting out of a geyser. While she wasn’t particularly inclined to prioritize his questions over Theresa’s, she looked like she’d meant to ask the same.
“Okay, so, I’m an explorer. I’m a part of Team Thunderstorm, I came here from Rowanland with Chumi, my partner, looking to map out the, uh,” she said, waving her arms in reference to the place they now sat, “Place we find ourselves in. We were doing fairly well for ourselves, we found some cool stuff and some useful supplies after we headed inland. When we made camp... Last night? Maybe? We went to sleep, but we were attacked in the dead of night by,” She shivered involuntarily, “Something really bad. I didn’t see it clearly, it was really dark. It was big, tall, and evil. It wanted to kill me, I could tell, and I don’t have Chumi’s attunement. Chumi escaped, I think. Anyway, I tried to escape from it- them? There might have been two- and ended up sinking into this really deep waterfall pool,”

She let out a breath. She wanted to make sure she didn’t reveal too much, so that the dragon wouldn’t try to steal rightfully Thunderstorm resources, and it was harder than expected.

“After that, I’m not entirely sure what happened. I think I fell asleep at some point, it was the middle of the night, after all. I woke up somewhere really dark, and when I tried to swim out, something... Went wrong. I have no idea why it happened, but a ton of pressure built up around me, and then all of the sudden I was flying into the air and landed where you found me. That’s all I know,” she finished. Hopefully that would be enough. Maybe she’d tell Theresa the parts she was leaving vague some other time.

The poor fire was dying again, no matter how many of the gnarly twigs that Ben put on it. Piper stood up. She didn’t understand why they were using such awful fuel for the fire, but she was going to go find something better.

“I’ll be right back,” she said, “I’m gonna get a little firewood.”

Outside, the rain was coming down in a wonderful rainstorm. There was no thunder, but the wind was fairly strong. Surprisingly enough, there was some perfectly good firewood piled up against a tree just a short walk from the cave. It was soaked with rainwater, but that was an easy fix. She grabbed what little she could carry, and walked back to the fire.

On the way over, however, she saw something somewhat concerning. Through a gap in the bushes, she could see what looked like a shallow depression in the earth. While minor undulations in the topography were normally such an utter non-issue that they passed from her mind without notice, it was filling with water. Fast. Far, far faster than the rain would have, no matter how thickly it was pouring down. She dropped the two pieces of firewood she’d picked up, and ran over to the newborn pond.

The water that was filling it was coming in via a thick stream from the far side, flowing over the ground from an unknown source. Not only that, but the water itself looked to be having some very peculiar effects on the poor plant life that had originally occupied the ground there. The bushes were growing taller, sprouting countless buds that soon exploded into countless multicolored, glowing flowers. The trees themselves were growing, straightening, and their leaves were turning a vibrant blue.

Piper stepped back. Something wasn’t right here, something wasn’t right at all. She could feel the water, she could feel it glow with warm, thick power. It was as though the water itself was alive. She remembered the first rule of dealing with magical creatures: If you don’t know what it is, it’s probably dangerous. Magical water that makes plants grow was not quite what most would call a magical creature, but neither was a unicorn, if you didn’t know what they were.

The little pond was nearly full already. Piper headed back uphill, to where the cave was. She picked the logs back up, and brought them in. Whatever mysterious creature the life-water was, it looked like it was still bound to the way water flows. She’d be safe uphill with Theresa and the brute.

Now at the entrance to the cave, Piper noticed Ben giving her a murderous glare for whatever reason. A moment’s deduction, and she decided that it was the way she was dripping water all over the remains of his pitiful fire. A spell, and the drippings were gone. Another, and the firewood was the perfect degree of wetness that it doesn’t all burn instantly, but it doesn’t get smoke everywhere either. She carefully placed the logs onto the flickering embers, arranging them in a little cross. The hungry flames greedily spread over the logs, no longer starving for fuel. Piper sat back down on the “bed” she’d been given, which she was now noticing was some sort of furry pelt. It was now also soaked with the water she didn’t bother to expel from herself. She’d dry off the fur later.

“So!” she said, breaking the silence, “I gave you my story, what’s yours?” she asked, mostly directed at Theresa. She’d probably explain her servant here, too, and Piper had no desire to hear the dragon’s voice more than necessary.

"I say we sneak out later tonight. It will give us some time to figure out what we will be dong." Jordan thought it was only fair that candy boy get a chance to ask him something. "Okay, I'll answer your question but first we should go back to the hotel so no one can spy on us." If he agreed Jordan would lead him back to his hotel so he could ask his question.

Theresa ot an Bol'hjar

Theresa leaned forward and looked at Ben for a moment. There was a pretty robust feeling in the air that made obvious the notion that he was not at all warming up to Piper in any capacity, and vice versa.

"Well..." Theresa began, in response to Piper's question, "I'm... a traveler. From a place called Highwall, up in the Northern Countries. I came here, to the Continent, to..."

She though about what to say next.

"Just..." She continued, "Explore, I guess. When I came ashore, I met Ben here, and we teamed up. Got some supplies from a town on the coast, then we..."

She thought back to the incident at the cavern.

"Hold on." Theresa said, looking inquisitive, "You said you were attacked by a creature, right? Did you get the shape? Was it tall, gangley, had a- seashell, for a head?"

Piper looked to be thinking back to the attack, but didn't get a chance to concoct an answer before Theresa fired another question.

"Did it... hit you? With a tentacle?" She asked, "Did it leave a mark?"

Firelit Alcove

Piper blinked. The description Theresa gave was more or less accurate to what she could remember of the attack.

“They were definitely tall, awkward, and had a weird head, but beyond that I couldn’t really see anything. I don’t think it had any tentacles, though, and any sort of bruises it could have given me would have been healed by the restorative anyway,” She said. It sounded like these two had seen the things that had attacked her before. Perhaps they knew some more about them.

“The things that had attacked us, they attacked during the night. Chumi sensed reasonably powerful magic coming from them, but it shouldn’t have been enough to block his attacks. They moved towards us with a sort of swagger, as though they knew we were helpless against them and they liked that. I could feel this really powerful sense of hatred and disdain coming from them, like they felt we were unclean and should be removed from their sight,” she finished. She wasn’t entirely comfortable giving up this much information, but it could prove critical to gain more information on them, in case she ran into them again. Thinking back on it, her reaction to them was utterly humiliating.

She considered Theresa’s other words, too. So the dragon wasn’t actually her servant- That made her a good deal more fearful of him. Obviously, she could probably defend herself against him, but she had no way to actually, well, fight back. Dragonhide was notoriously impervious to most elemental magics. Perhaps given Chumi’s help she could beat him, but without him, her only option was to flee. The best option was to make sure it never came to that. She grimaced internally, but resolved to ask Ben his story as well. False liking was better than not at all. Even towards a lizard.

“So, um, what about you, Ben? Where’d you come from?” she asked, trying to sound as sincere as possible, despite not actually wanting anything to do with a thieving lizard giant.

The man woke up. His head hurt, his chest hurt, his arm hurt. Everything hurt. He tried to move, and realized he was lying on soft sand. A stiff breeze came in, smelling of salt and charred wood, telling him that he'd been at some sort of fire on the beach. Something had happened... An explosion? Lots of fire. And... An attack.

An attack? Shit. He got up and searched for his armor, to find it neatly piled up beside him. The breastplate was cracked open like an egg. He looked down at himself and saw himself covered in blood-soaked bandages - looked pretty bad. Whoever had tried to help him must've seriously thought he was a goner, with these wounds, but he could at least move again. He took a look around, trying to get a feel for whatever had happened.

The airship was half-buried in the sand, with long gashes along its wood and brass construction where it had been ripped open by a rocky outcrop, and the balloon was completely incinerated. Something must've made a spark near it when they crashed. The fire in the camp had gone out days ago, too, it seemed.

All around him, bodies were laid out neatly, with sheets placed over them. His entire team was dead, save for one person, who was missing. Surrounding the camp were more corpses - dozens of them. He couldn't identify the species - some sort of native creature, at any rate. Big, with green skin and tusks. He decided to call them Orcs, at least until he found a better word for them. Blood was everywhere, and several of them had been ripped to shreds, bits of gore and bones strewn across the sand. One other kind of creature was also present, closer to the airship. Blue skin, vaguely fishy appearance. The pieces he could gather together made it appear as though it were bipedal - a fishman of some sort. Large pieces of shattered shell were everywhere, and small tentacles were strewn upon the ground, with black-green residue splattered across the side of the airship wreckage.

Judging by the carnage, something had apparently really, really pissed off the mage, whatever her name was. She usually preferred to keep things clean, from what he remembered of her on the ship. If she wasn't here, she was somewhere else, which meant that he pretty much had zero chance of ever finding her again. Good, she was a pain in the ass anyway. But if everyone else was accounted for, that meant that she had tried to save his life. Fuck, he'd probably have to thank the little weirdo if he ever ran into her again.

He returned to the camp and gathered some supplies, then tried to put on his armor. He noticed something moving under the bandages on his right forearm, which weren't particularly bloody. He ripped them off, and screamed - a writhing mass of something was on his arm. Little did he know what the mark meant.

Fortunately, he probably would never find out, because he was absolutely shit at outdoor survival, and couldn't read the stars to save his life. When he wandered off, it took him only a week to realize that he was completely and hopelessly lost, and he was running low on water. Not a soul came across him, and he collapsed - another victim to the Continent.

Cia

Cia tried continued to panic. The choking had no effect on her though due to her having no blood but rather sugar. Therefore she required no oxygen to breath. "HELP ME!" Cia yelled out the others again, a look of fear in her eyes. She slashed at the creature's tale this time. If only she knew how to activate her weapon form, but alas she did not, only the king and queen of candy kingdom knew how to do such a thing.

Sven

Sven nodded to Jordan and walked back to the inn. Once in the room he sat down on a bed and leaned his axe against the bed frame. There was a chair across from the bed for Jordan to sit on. "So since I answered your questions about myself I think it is only fair that you answer questions about you." Sven said wanting to know his ally. "So are you from the Continent? Why are those animals following you? Do you have plans to go anywhere? Or are you just wandering?" Sven said spewing out questions like a machine gun. He was not that different from Cia when it came to his curiosity.

Saaria outstretched her wings as she heard Cia's frantic cries. She rocketed towards the opening, only remembering a second too late that the tunnel was narrow. Her wings caught on the edge of the tunnel, and she screamed, falling down hard and slamming into the dust pile, now buried deep inside. The Taken gave up on trying to smash Gerald, tossing his skull across the room. It began scaling the dust pile, trying to find the intruder he could now hear.

The Magna Pater had strangled countless beings to death, but none in recent memory had boasted no need for blood or air. As Cia's claws cut painful grooves into the monster's tail, it turned on her with all the primal savagery that could be expected from the patriarch of monsters. It attempted to lift her up on tiptoes by the neck so that she'd have extreme difficulty manouvering her vulnerable legs away from its grinding, horrible jaws. She could kick at it plenty, but without any footing and against so brutal a creature, such a feeble resistance would scarcely delay what would come next.

A ballet dancer's worst nightmare. Shredded muscle, bleeding gills of ragged skin hanging from splintered bone, a maiming of the legs that was no simple nightmare one could wake up from. This beast was the ender of dreams, the taker of children. Up until this point, the trials of easily defeated Taken and cowardly forest animals that the adventurers faced had been about as dangerous as a canker sore in comparison.

Edit: Since I just found out that Cia is hand sized, just... I don't know, void all the above and pretend it's about to eat her like a Kit Kat bar.

Jordan took a seat and didn't have to wait as he was asked four questions. Depending on what the question was mattered if he answered it but the questions weren't bad. "One, I am not from the Continent. Two, they choose to follow me but they can leave anytime they want to. Three and four, I came here to search for something. Also, I only asked you if you were made of candy. So by your question for a question rule you now owe me three answers to what ever I might ask." Getting up Jordan went to his pack and started to dig through it. His companions walked over to him and waited for something to happen. "When do you think we should leave tonight?"

The Taken made its way up the mound, stomping the dust down into Saaria's mouth indirectly. A call was suddenly heard, echoing through everyone's minds. It was almost dark out. The Taken began to climb down the other side of the mound, towards the open tunnel. Saaria flailed as the dust choked her, she had visions of humans squirming around in agony. It was in this moment that she pieced it all together. The Taken trying to grind up Gerald, the visions of deceased villagers. This mound was he grounded up leftovers of the Taken. Saaria coughed, choking on the bone grinds. Her entire torso lit up orange as she prepared her flame, hotter than any flame she had made since she met her new companions. Orange energy flickered around her entire body, and suddenly, the mound lit up, burning from the inside out. Bones didn't ignite at this heat, but the light revealed something else. The entire mine was covered in veins of a silvery green stone, a stone which the locals simply called "Flashstone", philosophers preferred the term "Magnesium". Saaria rose, a flaming dragoness trapped in the cave was nothing to mess with. The Taken had been thrown from the mound, and was laying in the opening. Saaria's wings sent tunnels of fire out into the air as her face turned draconic, and that's when the explosions began. A single vein lit up in a light so bright is blinded the group. And from that flame, the others began lighting up, explosions of pure white light filling the tunnel. The Magna Pater could hear the explosions, but even it couldn't move fast enough for the piercing white light. The magnesium exploded all the way up to the surface, in an almost solar event that only took a few moments. The Taken lay empty, it's eye orbs burnt out. But the explosions had gained attention. A troop of Taken could be heard moving closer through the caves. Gerald could feel his bones nearby. Saaria lay unharmed by the explosion, as she was impervious to fire, however she sensed a great evil coming their way. Something truly monstrous.

Gerald Pithers

As the aftermath of the explosion settled, Gerald lied against the wall of the cavern, having been pushed up against it by the force of the detonation.

Strangely, he was unharmed. The Taken attempting to grind him up, the explosion, none of it put so much as even a dent in him. And he could still feel his other parts... somewhere. Most likely had to do with the jewels embedded in his circlet all giving off a faint glow. But he'd never paid any attention to the fact as they died out.

"EHHH..." Gerald called out, "JUS' ONE CRAZY THING AFTAH ANOTHAH..."

He attempted to shift his vision around the cleared room, but to no avail. Still no neck stump to work with. But he could still hear, however. The sound of Taken claws stamping the cavern floor, coming this way.

"AH, RICHARDS!" He yelled, "WE'VE MORE JUNGLE BEASTS ABOUT!"

At this rate, he'd never get his bones back.

Benedict Kaspin

Benedict's eyes watched Piper through the corner of his eyes throughout the rather short conversation. One thing he liked about having eyes like his, was that you couldn't see his pupils. This made it impossibly hard to track if he was looking at you or not. Sometimes it was annoyance to those he considered allies. Other times it was an advantage, like this one. Theresa reiterated her story to the young woman, a shortened version, but a story. And then the girl turned to him, stuttering over herself and looking genuinely uncomfortable with her words. As if she was trying to appear polite but wanted the conversation to be over as quickly as possible.

Ben's eyes narrowed and he rumbled, the vibrations coming from deep within his chest. His nostrils flared and his feature contorted into an angry scowl. She spoke about the hatred and disdain they had for her and god, it was just emanating from her and towards him. He wasn't stupid. He had spent a long time getting those words and looks from people who thought they were better than him purely because of their species. This... runt, was just another one of them. He had met very few people who had shown him the milk of human kindness and proved to him that it had even existed. Theresa was one of them, and he would protect that in her with everything he could. But this tiny, ignorant, and judgmental person before him who was bumbling over her words like she was attempting to rush the conversation to a close like so many had when he was a slave? She was nothing like Theresa. She wasn't worth him time, and he was doing everything in his power to respect her purely to please the only person he really cared about.

But even that didn't stop him. At least, not entirely.

"I don't think who I am is what you're interested in. All you need to know is my name, and that we killed one of those things." Ben said, looking to Theresa.

He turned back to look at Piper and exhaled, releasing pent up heat and hate he didn't even know he was harboring towards the young woman in front of him. Maybe he was being too hard on her. Sure, she was the perfect poster child for everything that had ruined his life - but that wasn't her fault. She was a child. Subject to the views and manipulation of others. She wasn't stupid, that cant be fixed. She was ignorant, that COULD be fixed. But he stood by his words. For the time being he had no urge to speak to her, because he firmly believed that she wouldn't listen. He'd sway her with action, if he was given the opportunity to sway her at all. And if he couldn't, well, it wasn't his fault if she was killed for speaking out of turn.

"Please try not to ruin the pelt. I got that for Theresa so she'd had something to sleep on." Ben said, nodding his head towards the bear pelt Piper was sitting on. This child had no respect for other's possessions, did she? He had that beaten into his head as a young one. He wouldn't have survived in the tribe if it hadn't been. Baby steps, he thought to himself. This woman might not respect him, but she might respect Theresa. If she was ruining Theresa's stuff, whether he got it for her or not, she'd most likely listen. But if she was associating him with a providing ability, she might begin to associate respect for him too.

Baby steps.

The Magna Pater stopped a mere second from eating Cia. Not because it was shocked or incapable of it though. It knew the value of so portable a hostage. Its grip upon the princess remained strong as it nearly buckled beneath the tremendous explosion. It couldn't see in the first place, but deep in its core it despised warmth and light with every molecule of its being. Even after the flash had faded, its slimy body shivered with frenetic hatred and pain. It had lost much of its thinking power from the stress.

However...

The cave would be dark again, and now filled to the brim with suffocating smoke. The monster's sonar could delve through the smog with ease, but the dragon had no way of knowing what was happening. She likely had little breathable air to herself, due to the fire's consumption of oxygen in the confined space. The Magna Pater could survive with far less air, given its ability to regulate metabolism. It began dragging itself along the ground towards the firebreather, giving Cia a harsh squeeze to try and make her squeal, perhaps snapping several teeny bones. It wanted Saaria to know that the little one still lived. If she tried to incinerate the cavern, the sweet smelling princess would burn too.
