If you're a mass of brain tissue and crawly tendrils that skipped most of the tech tree, bastardly complex multi-jointed stilts makes more sense than trying to mimic antigrav-supplanted ineffectual crawling, or using pure antigrav, which I don't imagine makes for a stable firing platform as far as holding a zero with large weapons goes. Again, opposite to the Claw approach for a similar heavy assault class vehicle, who instead slapped together a superheavy quadruple-tracked vehicle with low-output antigrav (compared to gravitic hovercraft, at least) to fiddle with its ground pressure on the fly. I imagine the Claw ditched three legs for six simply to get a more or at least par stable firing platform with simpler individual leg design.

Their nemesis was and still using wheels for many of their vehicles as well as rely on spinning cricular objects within their machinery. So they refuse using wheels also for pure ideological reasons. The Sarmakth embrace many things which makes them different from humans on this simple basis alone.
Man, you can run the same query for aircraft wings. Martians don't have 'em because humans do.
Which is especially ironic because the first Martian aircrafts during the 19th century invasion were basically flying delta-shaped wings (which doubtlessly inspired humans later).

Alright, first IC post up. As nothing's been started yet I just gave a pretty basic setting of the scene for my Cult. The different groups in it and what not. @Willy Vereblooks good, so long as those Hypermatter weapons and things don't get out of hand and OP (though what isn't in these kinds of RPs) it should go well. I imagine much of your small infantry stuff is manipulated humans of some kind right? Either way, accepted.

@ZadubadabuAs I said during the tech description, Sarmakth has more exotic technology yet overall it has about the same effectiveness.
Hypermatter weapons have some interesting features but at the end of the day they are about on par with what everyone else has.
As for infantry, they don't use them at all. Their human vassals may use human tactics like the Pekh'makth they are but the Sarmakth stays with their doctrine.
Their larger vehicles usually deploy small drones to get inside buildings and other places. Albeit it's generally just optimized for smaller scale massacres. The smallest kind of drones are nothing but intelligent bombs with blast just good enough to murder humans up close. Sarmakth aren't exactly the most upstanding people aliens you can meet in combat.

Sarmakth indeed does prefer to be unknown so, at least initially, I keep their appearance to the minimum. They're too proud to fight together with Pekh'makth even if they were to use humans as cannon fodder. Humans who either knowingly or unknowingly fight for them use mostly standard equipment from the Empire. There are few things that were derived from Sarmakth technology but these features are usually hidden. As I said human soldiers and Sarmakth tripods never fight together.

As for humans "working" for the Sarmakth there are many different kind of relations. There are those who are manipulated from the shadows, never aware that they aren't truly in charge. Then there are secret Sarmakth-sponsored factions like the Red Skull pirates or the technocratic religious sect called the Red Cross. These have a leadership under direct Sarmakth control but overall the rest are unaware. Lastly there are those few systems which came under Sarmakth rule. They use these people as the "prototype" for the civilization they establish once the Sarmakth conquered the galaxy. Humans are taught of a new language which sounds similar to the telepathic conversations Sarmakth do between each other (thus they can understand their slaves). Yes, humans are treated as slaves albeit generally have their own governments. They are taught Sarmakth ideology extensively and believe the aliens as their creators and godlike superior beings who have the right to do whatever they want with the mere Pekh'makth. If you are familiar with the show Stargate you can guess what kind of society I mean here.

BTW, you see the fancy language of the Sarmakth? It isn't entirely made up by me but rather I used the Vulcan from Star Trek. Ironically it fits well.
