@Raptorman You see I kinda agree with you, I suggested the possibility for there to be an in IC Comic House called Night Hound comics. That would publish Heroes as they gained popularity.

And while I don't see the problem with there being Spider Man Comics, I don't think DC or Marvel should be as gigantic as they are in our Universe. We already have Superheroes darting about so they become less fiction and more fact, making them less of an escape from our daily lives. Now a Fantastical Spider Man set in a world of might and magic could be something the average citizens goes for. Placing Superheroes in straight up fantasy settings or high science fiction. That I could see as a more believable approach.

I think Marvel and DC would absolutely exist; they would just be far less popular since they're selling a "fake" version of something people can get every day. I also don't think in-universe comics of this world's contemporary heroes would be terribly popular, either, since they're guilty of the same thing. If I'm an Icon fanboy, maybe I want to read Icon comics, but if I'm just an average Joe who loves Icon then I only care about his real adventures. Comics based on real world heroes probably feel trite and cash-grabby to most people.

EDIT: However, comics of Lady Liberty's WWII adventures? Those I could see being popular, since so much time has passed and those adventures have ascended to legend status.

Well I think you both are on the right track and that makes sense. :)

Captain america does not exist in this setting and never did, nor was there ever any comic book relating to him. She's her own thing.

Sorry about calling her Ms. America. Just a slip of the tongue (or rather fings). Lady Liberty. Got it down now.

<Snipped quote by VATROU>

That is something that has been a subject of some degree of tension. Originally there was to be none of that (at least none of the 'real world' superhero comics) it doesn't make sense after all as this world had its own actual heroes and villains such as Lady Liberty and others from those old days to begin with. Dedonus started doing it though, you may notice that I have always completely avoided it and commented several times over the years that it isn't a thing....

I would also add that Nitemare Shape has expressed agreement with me on the fact that it cheapens the immersion of a separate world substantially.

First time I ever heard anything about this. I don't really buy the argument that the Marvel and DC characters would not exist as fictional characters because people would want the "real deal". We have movies about fictional presidents when we still have real ones. We still have movies about fictional soldiers when we still have real soldiers. We still have media about fictional athletes when we have real athletes. On the top of my head (although if you can think of an example, please enlighten me), I cannot think of a real-life example equivalent to what you are proposing.

Sure, fictional accounts of the "real" superheroes in this universe might have more popularity. However, another thing that needs to be kept in mind is that a majority of the characters in this roleplay have not been superheroes for that long. Other than the WWII heroes, none of the other characters would really have an affect on whether or not Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, and the rest exist. Honestly, I think Marvel and DC would be trying to buy up the rights to our characters in the game (especially Icon by DC).

I was about ready to say that I don't think that Alaska is an entire day behind the rest of the U.S.

@DedonusYeah I lose days super fast on Vacation. It's not good normally and being on Vacation is the worst for me, I barely recognize the concept of time.

Look, I for one would greatly appreciate a decrease in the amount to which you in particular reference the marvel and dc comics. I will not go so far as to demand it stop. But I would at least like for there the whole history thing that I brought to the game when the game started to at least matter and have had an effect on things. Which I would think is entirely reasonable.

I have at every turn avoided mentioning comic books or referencing them IC with the very small exception of talking about a few things related to the WW2 era people. My preference would be to go with what Eddie was suggesting since his idea seemed like a compromise that lets us both to some degree be happy. You get to have a few references, and I don't feel like the world is being compromised.

I think me and Raptorman mostly solved the issue. There was just a misunderstanding when he thought that I was calling Lady Liberty a genderbent Captain America when I called her Ms. America by mistake.

I was going to say something witty, but that pic just took it all out of me....

Like the screamers.

What are screamers you may ask? If you have to ask, you don't want to know.

I, on the other hand, am perfectly fine with this image. Yass Wonder Woman, you show the patriarch that you are more than an overtly sexualized figment of the male imagination! Serve me that piping hot reversal of gender roles, hunty.

Welp, I'm back from the Deadpool movie, it was pretty good from the eyes of a fanboy of the character for 8-9 years. Not sure about everyone else, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

However, it has come to my attention that there is a point of contention that comics are occasionally referenced in game, and I'm not sure why. It's not hurting anything, and I'm inclined to agree with the side that Marvel and DC could exist in some capacity. The only heroes that really existed and were public up until a few years ago were in WWII, and even at that point it's a one time incident. Not only that, comics did not get their origins from heroes anyway. Up until Superman it was cowboys, soldiers, or supernatural horrors that starred in comics, superheroes came later. The idea that these markets stop because actual metas exist does not add up, that's like saying movies and books involving murder mysteries would not have a market because murderers exist.

I don't know, I don't see the harm in the occasional referential humor, it keeps the world grounded in a reality we can connect to. Having these characters have references to things that exist in our world gives the CaH world something that we can equate things to, one that a fictional publisher or fictional heroes within the fictional world wouldn't match up to. Many of our characters seem to be slightly nerdy or understand pop-culture references, having parts of pop-culture removed can take parts of a character away.

Again, I'm not seeing the issue in the references, but that's just my two cents on the matter.
