"my soul comes from better worlds and i have an incurable homesickness of the stars"
Thirty years have passed. Thirty long, arduous, and trying years have passed since the Passage, a large exodus of storybound individuals called Vales from one realm to the next, where they landed themselves in a world where their lives have been forever imbued in legends, stories, and tales. An escape from the all consuming rage that took their people by the throat and squeezed until death befell their realm, Mystvale Valley, by the droves. Thousands lying dead to unknown, malicious entities looking for none other than their absolute destruction.
Their once prosperous realm went dark the moment the tear in the realms closed, severing the connection between Mystvale and its denizens. They suffered silence and loss of direction in this new world, unknown to what monstrosity sat between them and what used to be their home. It felt like an interlude, the quiet break before things turned downhill. They didn’t realize the stage had been readily set for the second act and that their lives would only worsen in the coming years.
Now, these beings settle in a small town off the coast of New England, having adjusted to their surroundings. Some have lost hope entirely, digging their roots into jobs and businesses and blending in naturally to their human counterparts. Others still wait, whether in squalor or opulence, for a sign that their home awaits reclamation, whether by some odd luck or by force. However, they remain close knit, choosing those fit to govern their actions and relying on trusted individuals to make sure their identities remain hidden to mortal eyes. Though, few denizens elude this mockery of a government in favor of following their own set of rules and standards. Lines drawn and further evidence of dissent eclipses a growing problem rising in the background.
Things fall apart when a single tear is reopened. Nightmares mingle in the background before digging their claws into something greater than the home of fairy tale creatures: Earth.
Hello! Hope this sufficiently catches interest.
To those interested, thanks, and here’s a bit of what I expect from you, myself, and the roleplay at hand:
This is going to be heavily plot intensive, but also character driven. Choices you make in your journey here will likely affect the outcome of our little town of Cedar Grove, New York (totally made up, hopefully) and the citizens, Vales (the term for fairy tale individuals) and humans alike. So far, my plans consist of a schism between Vale citizens concerning ‘politics’ and lack thereof, a growing Vale drug problem, and an underlying evil working its actual magic in the background. I’ll likely expound upon that, but that’s a little run down of what to expect once the ball starts rolling. Of course that doesn't count any of what you'll be contributing, which I hope makes the meat of the roleplay.
The entire RP will be very plot and character centric, meaning a lot of what your characters do will likely be the driving force of some of the story. It’s not a sandbox, though, because I have ideas and will force a direction through the various acts when I need to. But, mostly, people have ample room for creativity through character development, the setting itself, interactions, the plot I’m churning out, and ideas you all come up with.
Concerning characters, inspiration is awesome, but I’m not looking for copies and replicas from shows, movies, or comics, not even the stories they came from. They’ll be entirely yours—original to you, with inspiration where you feel the inspiration should come from. Getting inspiration from these characters is perfectly A-Okay, I’ll likely do the same thing, but copying them entirely is a no go. Even just translating them over and changing a little bit is a definite no from me.
That being said, the main foundation of the character, i.e. what makes them who they are, must be rooted into a character from a story of your choosing. Just about anything is open for business that’s not at all centered around mythology, things like Gods, omniscient beings, and just random mythological monsters are pretty much a no go. Of course, if you’re having any doubts as to what I’ll accept and what I won’t, bring me your character idea through the thread or PMs and I’ll help out. There's far too much ground to cover, so I'll just stick to what I can't accept. When in doubt, run things by me and I'll do my best to help mold them how you want them, or get an interesting concept out of something you think might not work.
Any questions and concerns, ask away, whether in the thread or through PMs! More information will come once the OOC hits the shelf.
