This is me eyeballing it, but this is the claims so far, yes?

This looks much better than my attempt at paint. XD

I will need to increase the size of the Heartlands some so they reach those mountains.

I'll have to look into that paint program. In the meantime, Pepperm1nts idea is quite good. Atm, Gold Eagle is handling the Royal House more than me but we are going for something of a Greco-roman mixed with a bit gothic thrown in. I'm focusing a bit on the lore atm but me and Gold will get a summary going when he's on but I doubt there will be much overlap as the Crown will be something along the lines of masters of none. (maybe a heavy infantry focus on a military side.)

Question, I'd make a relative small house which more or less governs a single city. It would be on the island between GreviousKhan and Abefroeman's domain. But would anyone mind if they were the literal money makers (aka the minters) of the empire? Controlling vast amount of funds themselves. Money is alwasy required for whatever you do so they are still very powerful. And the previous emperor, with his love for boats, heavily loaned from my family (putting the crown into somewhat of a debt with my guys, a debt they want to see repaid).

So you're planning on going for a City state in charge of coin minting? Or maybe you mean something less literal in terms of money making (like having a strong arm on the trade in the area). Anyway, I can work with the crown being in debt to further plunge things into a more dire state. We can work out the details as things pan out, but I very much like the idea.

Plus this could work well for a character I have planned.

I changed my mind on my relative location (might need trimming), if that's okay:

I'd say literal coin minting. Obviously they don't constantly make coins just to have a lot because that would cause inflation and stuff. But still, sometimes fresh coins (in honor of a new king..?) should be made. However, i'm seeing that I might have quite a central position between several players. So I'd say that the trade wouldn't be bad either.

Also, the main goal of the house would be pretty much to install either a king that likes to spend A LOT. Or install a puppet as master of coin so he can slowly but surely generate debt.

Huh. Perhaps I should join this.

Edit: And here's roughly the land that I'm interested in having.Figured I might as well get on the ball this time, unlike what happened when I waited too long in the previous RP.

Here is my claim, sorry I don't know how to do the shading thing!

Edit- I think I am going along the lines of having a nation that is really good at making metal crafts due to the abundance of ore veins at the foot of the mountains that reside in the territory. Now I wouldn't say they are super rich, mostly do to the harsh winters and constant northfolk raids, but coin is still abundant. The main export would be weapons, armor, anything that they are contracted to make. The military, depending on how bad the northfolk get, would be slightly larger I'm guessing then most others.

Well that's what I have came up with so far, tell me if I need to rethink stuff. I'm always open to criticism.

In debt, eh? Reminds me of @The Nexerus's nation in the previous Gilded Throne.

I'll shoot.

You're in the far north, which probably means your population is significantly smaller than most other nations. A small population means a small army, so I'd probably disagree on the whole "a bigger army than most" line.

The northern lands are described as harsh, "deathly-cold", constantly battered by snow storms and plagued by beasts. The north only has "sparse" stretches of arable land in the summer time, which means northern society has to hunt and fish for food. On top of all that, the northern tribes raid the territory.

All those things considered, I think it's fair to assume a few things. Namely, that an "abundance of coin" is not likely, and that assembling and moving an army would be a nightmare because the environment is basically out to kill you, and the climate probably means you'd lack the infrastructure to move around big armies with ease.

You could have an abundance of ores, but remember that it doesn't automatically mean they would be easy to extract. So just because the mountains are covered in them doesn't mean everyone is filthy rich.

I hope I'm not coming off like an asshole here. It's not my intention. Just dropping my two cents since you asked.

I could see a different ratio of militant to civilian population in such a harsh area, but I wouldn't say big army in regards to size. @Lord Zee

Edit: this of course is dependant on population and culture as well as economy. If you can make it balance out somehow, then consider the latter part of my crtique moot. The joy of nation building.

The Name "Federated States" strikes me as quite modern-sounding; it doesn't fit in the medieval setting to my ear. Maybe something like the Kawachi Confedaracy/Kawachi Dominion to spruce up the name but achieve a more historical-sounding name. Just my opinion, though.

Well, that works for me. In that case, it will be listed as one of the places there resides a royal mint when I get around to currency.

@ethanjory@gorgenmast@Lord Zee Also you chaps probably already know this, but bordering the (Yet unnamed) Forest will result in having to deal with the raiding tribes who will generally do all they can to make your life a living hell. At the very least you will never get bored.

On the bright side, however, border nations get the option of having imperial garrisons stationed in their province. Now how big these garrisons are will largely depend on your houses standing with coming Emperor. Just throwing that out there for plot fodder.

Two potential political moves: A contender commissions the mints to start printing their face prematurely as the winner, or a contender offers juicy garrisons to northern provinces in return for support and votes. Politics.

Don't worry, I'm coming up with something fairly interesting. Unless you end up thinking that it isn't... which will cause me to go cry in the corner...

Oh, on another note, are we making a chat for this like last time?

Nah, you're fine man. Like I said, I do like the criticism and what you've said I won't take for granted. I get the whole, smaller army thing, but would they not be better fighters then most do to the close proximity of the Northern Tribes? Would the entire border nations be more suited for dealing with the North tribes, regardless of the Garrisons? I am curious on that.

Now, you are also right with the coin issue. My nation would not be very wealthy as I originally assumed and that's alright, there are other ways to gain wealth but crafting weapons and armor will still be my main export.

They're northmen, so yeah, they'd be tough. And most people would know their way around a weapon.

To add on this martial skill would reasonably be an important skill given their warlike neighbors. In fact, the proximity of warlike pagans would even attract the faithful of other lands (See Knights/Kuman) so you're not wrong on the better fighters thing. (Hell chapter houses for Knight orders springing up would not be out of place, similar to the tectonic knights origins)

Anyway, the Border states would be most experienced in dealing with the northern tribes yes.

I'm alright with weapons and armor be exports, though given you proximity to the tribes one might think you'd still want those as imports. (Unless you plan on mostly trading those to your neighbours on either side.)

If no other player get's around to it, I'll be making an NPC Merchant guild that would be happy to set up shop in your nation to secure the ore trade there. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself.

Just to keep stuff interesting, and fueled by the trade between Growi, GreviousKhan and Abefroeman, my guys could do some trading in the northern lands. Probably mostly very small shops in major Nothern Cities.
