@SomeChapMy dudes are pretty not!Communist too. I'll make them not!Anarchist, however. Either way, it seems there could be a lot of interaction between them and yours -- possibly they could be a major ally in/help kick-start the spacecommunist revolution.

@Fabulous Knight Indeed, it does seem as such. I'd imagine that political parties of their likes will be wanting to work with others, even if at some point they declare each other to not be remaining true to the principles of the ideology. But yes, I'd certainly be okay with some interaction with others, heh.

The ideas I have can roughly be boiled down to space vampires or space Golden Horde I guess.

Basically for the first the idea is that the nation's aristocracy have through some kind of expensive process which has rendered them functionally immortal and comes with a host of other boons but at the fault of needing constant reapplication of the process which had some kind of nasty side effects (I don't want them to literally be vampires so I'm gonna mix stuff up but it's the idea that came immediately to mind). So the immortal and detached rulers see the commoners as an expendable force for work and warfare and keep them in line by dangling the carrot of immortality for those who distinguish themselves. I want to like this idea but it's still super loose and I haven't gotten it to feel right yet.

Second is exactly what it says on the tin. Haven't put much thought there.

Nothing is final and I don't even know if I want to go forward with either of these, just kinda playing with ideas right now.

@Commodore RobotDo both.

The Khans are genetically engineered immortals that require the gene-seed of sentient races in order to perpetuate themselves. They enslave and raid other nations in order to obtain this...material.

By Dune-like I thought you plan to make this into Game of Thrones in space.
Because kinda that's what Dune is like, IMO.

Yknow I think I can get behind that. After I posted I was actually starting to think "why not both?" Great minds and whatnot.

Considering to make naion akin to a collection of Scottish clans who pilot giant robots as both sport and sign of their nobility.

@PolybiusNot at all. You read "utopia"? Plus, the German Peasants in the Great Peasant's Revolt were fighting for communal ownership of the land by all.

Pretty much.

Long leap between feudalism and communism.

I'd be willing to allow Communism in space, but anyone deviating from the classic Space feudal system will have to make a really good explanation about their government on the Nation Sheet.

@MetalLoverThe ideas behind communism are actually very old. I mean, the ancient Greeks had the basic ideas down. But yeah, communism as an actual full system was pretty formalised by the renaissance -- especially with regards to Protestantism.

I dunno the word communism just makes me think of modern (20th) century states. I was interested in the RP because of the line " Sol-S shall basically be an attempt at turning the Milky Way into a place divided into houses similar to Medieval Europe" which makes me think of Lords, vassals and peasants. Doesn't matter however as that seems to be out the window.

@PolybiusWell, it's what I was thinking too. My dudes, at least, are based firmly on the late medieval.

@MetalLoverHow large can I make my nation? I'm going for a "disorganised empire" thing, but I don't want to end up OP.

At most, probably around a quarter of the size of Scutum-Centarus Spiral.

@MetalLoversp, big boss man... can I sell you on the idea of an advanced technocracy that shifts power around based upon the merit of research being done. The inventor and current leading mind of FTL travel being the most infleuntial overseer currently within the system.

Like I said earlier in the OOC, as long as you are willing to right a longer description for your government type than those doing the feudal monarchy one than sure.

@NatsucooldudeThat's not very medieval.

You reminded me of something, though --

@MetalLover, how enmeshed are we going to be? In Dune, and ASoIaF, and Mechwarrior and 40k and all that -- there's often organisations that transcend factions. For example, the navigators guild, or ComStar. Will we have playable organisations like that? The idea of a player working within every faction as a massive trade guild sounds pretty awesome.

I'm fine with some player working between all the factions.
