Lila had just caught her breath when she heard the words, "Let's go." coming from the doctor's mouth. Lila's nose and forehead wrinkled in distaste and her mouth curved downwards into a frown. "What?" she said to the Italian girl.

Cooper went back to her crew and finished up the wiring on the screen. When the schedule finally appeared on it, a businessman on the platform snorted rudely and said, "It's about time." Cooper was at about the end of her rope, and if she wasn't so looking forward to seeing her friends, she may have snapped right then and there on him, but she remained the bigger person and quietly helped her crew clean up their tools and leave the station. When the others left back to the warehouse on the handcart, Cooper headed to Max's shop to find the others.

Marcella laughed lightly and took Lila's hand. "C'mon, we can rest when we get back." Practically dragging the driver behind her, Marcella hurried back towards the shop.

Lila sighed in frustration as Marcella dragged her along, but made no effort to fight the girl. After a while, they made it back to the shop, and waited patiently inside for Cooper.

(I hope this is fine with you guys. I wasn't sure what else to post.)

Cooper got back to the shop and went inside; the door was unlocked, but the sign said closed and Max was nowhere to be seen. She assumed he was in the back of the shop.
"So, what brings you two to this side of the tracks?" Cooper asked the two ladies in the shop.

Lila, who was now breathing normally, smiled at Cooper. "Cooper! Great to see you!" she thought about hugging the Metalheart, but wasn't sure if that would be weird. "Oh! I was wondering if you could by any chance check out my carriage. She's been acting odd." she said.

Cooper heard Lila say 'her' instead of 'it,' but figured she must have heard her wrong. "I can take a look at it; I'm not the best with motor carriages, but for the most part, a machine is a machine. If I can't fix it I can at least figure out why it isn't working." Truthfully, the last thing Cooper wanted to do right now was fix something, but it was for a great friend who wouldn't ask her to do this if it wasn't important.

Max had changed out of his work clothes and into shorts (meaning the prosthetic leg is visible). He heard noise when he realized that he had left the door unlocked. He walked back into the store to see Cooper, Lila, and Macella. "oh hey I didn't know you came back" he said with shock

"Yes, well..." Marcella trailed off as her gaze traveled to Max's leg. Shock registered on her features, mixed with confusion and alarm. "Accidenti..." she swore softly, running over. Marcella crouched and examined the prosthetic limb, doctoral instincts kicking in. "What happened?! When did this happen?!"

Lila opened her mouth to speak, but was interrupted by Max. She turned to look at him. The first thing he noticed was how different he looked from the boy at graduation. He looked...dirtier, older, worn, as if life had taken a massive toll on him. As if work had aged him, making him older than he should be. Then, she noticed his leg. She raised her eyebrow a small bit, but that was all.

Cooper had known about the leg beforehand, but didn't know much about how it happened. She wasn't there at the time, and she didn't want to make him uncomfortable by asking a bunch of questions about it. As far as she knew, it was the result of a machine going haywire; part of that was assumption and part of that was infered from what she'd heard on the grapevine.
She didn't know how to react when Marcella made such a big deal over Max's leg. In a weird way she was proud of her friend, even if the reaction was mildly inappropriate; Marcella wouldn't have done that if she wasn't a devoted doctor and humanitarian. She wasn't sure if it was her place to step in and tell her to ease up, but she doubted so. In the end she stood there awkwardly frozen next to Lila, watching the scene unfold.

Her fingers ran over the leg, pausing at where metal met flesh. Whoever had patched Max up had done an excellent job. No sign of past infection or gangrene. Satisfied, Marcella stood and took a step back. She cleared her throat, suddenly aware of how sudden her outburst had been, and straightened the creases in her dress. "Sorry...I can't help but worry about you. For all of you."

Max said "its understandable considering your job." He then said "I actually did this job myself, so I've helped out a few other people in town with new limbs."

Lila looked at Max, one eyebrow still raised. "A machine...I see..." She said, the small but sly smirk hinting that she perhaps knew more then she was letting on. Lila didn't understand politics or how the government works, but she did adopt one thing from her mother: the ability to read people. It wasn't always strong or even active, but sometimes she just sort of knew things about a person, such as whether someone is in love, or their mood, or, in this case, if someone was lying. But she didn't say anything to give him away, and instead just stood there, silently smirking.

"Speaking of worrying, Marcella, you mentioned the sickness that's been going around lately." She leaned back and lifted herself up so that she was sitting on the edge of the counter. "What do you know about that?"

Marcella bit her lip, nervously reaching for the bag she had brought along. "Not much," she admitted ruefully. "In fact, that's why I came here. Most victims were Metalhearts, so I assumed it started in the village. My plan was to research as much as possible in order to procure some medicine." She shook her head and leaned against the wall. "There have been no casualties that I know of, thank goodness, but it's only a matter of time."

Cooper nodded solemnly. "I know a few people, Metalhearts I've worked with, who have came down with it. It's spreading fast." she said. "I can help guide you around the village tomorrow if you want to see where it's hitting people the hardest."

Relief filled the doctor's features and her fiddling hads grew still. "Thank you," she said earnestly. "Truly, thank you. If you ever need anything, I won't hesitate to help."

She focused her gaze on Max, a slip of unease lurking in the cracks of gratefulness. "Really, I mean it." She felt fear. Not a chilling claw of terror up her spine, but a nagging concern laced nervousness for the safety of her friends. For what reason, she had no clue. Perhaps it was nothing more than paranoia from a long train ride. Or, perhaps, it was intuition garnered from years of mentally assessing patients to guess what was wrong before Marcella could properly examine them. No matter the reason, Marcella buried the unease with a thankful smile.
