Hello! First and foremost, apologies for the lack of a fancy centered picture or funky concept title like The Abandoned or A Time of Strife. I know that this is usually the case with interest checks, but I have a few ideas I'm mulling over and figured I'd get some opinions before I start working on an actual OOC. As mentioned, there are multiple settings I have in mind that I'd like to be decided on with a vote, though I'm open to any suggestions or changes.
That being said, I'd like for two things -- namely, the features each of the settings have in common -- to stay. Don't worry, they're pretty open-ended, though they're all either Modern Fantasy or Modern Scifi. The features in mind are the deconstruction of the settings, and the relationships of a small, specific group.
If all that sounds good so far, here are the options I have in mind.
The Animorphs
That's right, just like the ones you read as a kid. I had an Animorphs roleplay about a year back, which I'm willing to give another shot if there's sufficient interest. Just like the original books, we'd be playing teenagers who are bestowed power by an alien race to combat a different alien race, and that power is -- for whatever reason -- turning into any animal you touch. For two hours or less. With the element of deconstruction in mind, this rp would focus on the psychological effects of intergalactic war on kids who would rather be dating and sneaking out to go to the arcade. It'll be up to you voters to decide on whether you want a legit Animorphs roleplay (Like, with Yeerks and Andalites and the whole nine yards) or something conceptually similar.
Captain Planet
I'm not even joking. Hear me out. Five kids are bestowed specific elemental powers. They use their powers to save the world. Take away the green mullet and environmental focus, and there are probably like five roleplays open with the same premise in the Casual section. The only difference here is that we'd be focusing on the cheesy plots you'd find in Captain Planet and making them more gritty and realistic. Picture nuclear pollutant characters who have the power to give you cancer, and young gangmembers getting shot in the face instead of saved at the last minute by the Planeteers. Just like the first option, you guys will decide how far into the original source we're dipping into.
We3
You graphic novel fans out there know what I'm talking about. For the rest of you, I'll give a quick summary. We3 is a graphic novel by Grant Morrison about a trio of kidnapped pets who have been subjected to testing by a shady government agency and given super-intelligence and robotic suits. Throughout the events of the story, they're being chased by the agency they've escaped from, battle other escaped test subjects, and a lot of heavy-handed "ANIMALS HAVE HUMANITY" messages. Sort of like the Nimh series. Whether we choose to have robotic suits, superpowers, or just human intelligence, the story is "A small group of nonhuman test subjects use their newfound powers to run from The Man™"
With that, polls are open! Fire away with interest, questions, comments, et cetera.
Glad to see the interest! Now seems an opportune time to mention that there won't be any dibs, as there will be only 4 spaces besides myself. I'd rather see applicants writing well written characters than quickly written characters after all. Bearing this in mind, those posting on the interest check will get the character sheet template for whatever setting we go with before those who find the rp on the OOC, so that should leave you extra time to make a character designed for a certain spot.
