I actually enjoy playing female characters. I like the challenge of trying to occupy a completely foreign headspace. I don't think I've ever played someone with a particularly strong racial identity either way.

I wrote a whole 1x1 with Byrd set in a small town in South Carolina despite having never stepped foot there.

Y'all motherfuckers are overcomplicating things. People be people, yo.

Just rarely play a woman.

Does Onomatopoeia count as underrated?

In that he isn't used much? Sure.
He's a freakin' beast.

In terms of playing a character of colour, I've never really had a problem with it. With Miles, I'm fortunate enough to get some help from Bendis, who's really starting to get into his thoughts about being "the black Spider-Man".

With playing women/girls, I have to say some of the most fun I've had is playing Mia Dearden in Henry's game. Seriously. I loved it. It's never a challenge for me, so much as... fun.

Not all people of colour are the same and neither are all women. So if there are people out there that want to play a character but are afraid they won't sound "black" enough or that the female character they are writing sounds too "man-ish" I'd suggest they chill. Chances are you're probably worrying too much. Even if it is for the most benevolent reason possible.

Shakespeare never left England and you never hear people complaining that his Danish, Roman, or Venetian characters weren't authentic enough.

@Morden Man Well there was a period of time where it's unclear about what exactly Shakespeare did and several historians have theorized he travelled abroad for a while.

In other news...

I've started writing...

I call for a vote of no confidence in TimeMasterX's Doom.

It's a cruel ruse I tell you!

More than anything, it's an awful piece of expectations management.

If you spend three weeks hyping up a single post, I expect that post to be Earth-shatteringly good. Anything less than that is going to be considered a disappointment.

So yeah, no pressure, Time.

@Morden Man you should just do what you did with an inactive @Vandy (Poor poor busy soul) and threaten to have Doom be caught prancing around his castle dressed up like Sue Storm.

I'm thinking about dropping the Fantastic Four.

It's not that I don't enjoy writing them, because I have enjoyed what I've written so far, but that I realise that I don't really have anything long term planned for them. I'll be playing them post to post, waiting for some lightning bolt-shaped inspiration to come along, when someone else (potentially) could be playing them.

I don't know who else I'd pick up in their place but I wanted to make it known where I was at (or not at, more accurately) with them just in case someone was sat wishing they could play them.
