Thanks to the constant updating of characters, I now live in fear that if I don't IMMEDIATELY update my relationship sheets then I'll be hopelessly behind and be one with the uncompleted sheets trash.

See how nice and respectful and genuinely good people are being about this? Now if we can just transfer some of this over to how we feel about people posting there relationship sheets I really think we as a group could make the world a better place.

I knew from the get go that someone turning into a giant death lizard would be a no go, so I've been bouncing around the idea that a dragon is a metaphorical title. Just a person with a crazy powerful soul, essence, whatever. Outwardly they'd look like a normal hum drum human but their souls is so monstrous that you couldn't possibly be a human.

Makes sense, I did the same thing with the Phoenix. She has healing fire hands and 'immortality' - kinda.

So my idea I will impart on you will be this: Take a look at general dragon lore and then choose one element on it to focus on specifically - be that their fascination with minerals/jewels, fire breathing, flight/wings, lizard status, etc. Take that and find a way to apply it to a generally humanoid form (as transforming into a giant lizard is most likely a no-no).

Find a unique but very notable weakness, and then find a very unique and notable ability.

If the soul is monstrous, wouldn't something along the lines of Grendel or another legendary monster be more appropriate?

To my mind, the distinguishing feature of a dragon is that it's the god damned king. The king of the mythical kingdom, the biggest, scariest thing out there and it knows it. Dragons should be mind blowingly arrogant but actually have the power to back it up, sort of like King Geoffrey in Game of Thrones except that the dragon would actually be able to raze cities and burn armies alone. One of the few bits of The Hobbit Trilogy that I liked was Smaug, because he was such a good dragon; powerful, greedy, vain and saw everyone else as fundamentally of lesser importance than himself but was also genuinely cunning and smarter than the dwarves. So a dragon's soul, if seen through soul vision spectacles, should look terrifyingly majestic and fantastically regal. Better than the viewer in every way, so much better than them that they can hardly be blamed for treating the viewer like dirt.

After all, that's what they are.

Or that's what you feel when you first see them. With time maybe you can look past their power and see that really, they're cold and cruel and not better than other people, just better at making people think they are.

Thanks for the tips, I think I've got something I can work with.

• They have tough skin and are particularly fire retardant, only exception being their armpits which gives a direct path to the heart
• Proud things, their word is their bond and take personal attacks very seriously
• Create "Hordes", things that they can measure and admire. These Hordes can be anything really, from gold all the way to pebbles. As long as the dragon finds value in the object it will collect
• Will automatically know when something from their horde is stolen, react badly

Not at all! I love what you have to add, in fact I think I'm going to have to put your words into consideration. And absolutly there will be Dragons like Smaug, especially the older ones. But what I wanted to keep in mind is that, there aren't a lot of dragons anymore and for all their strength and cunning, humans have triumphed over dragons both in the past and present. Those special few who have stayed unchallenged for centuries could keep their pride but many more have been humbled, they aren't top dogs anymore and from the runts perspective they are dying out.
