Yurp. In my mind Russia will have begun mass production of either the SVT/ATV-40 rifles, the SKS, and/or ass loads of PPS-42/43 Submachine-guns. Will be wonderful stamped sheet metal, Tavorich!

Russia is our equivalent of Africa, pretty much. It's a clusterfuck of rival factions and warlords. That said, they probably aren't manufacturing much of anything.

It's been a while since I've read up but I think the "government" of Russia, the Republic, is basically a bunch of incompetent asshats that are severely under-supplied. There are other factions though, so there isn't an official Russian government. It depends on who you ask. If you ask the Chinese, they'll say the eastern Russians in Siberia are the legitimate government. If you ask the Spaniards, they'll probably say the Republic are legitimate. If you ask certain rebel factions within Russia, they'll say neither are.

The Eastern Russians are backed by the Chinese, so they have Chinese equipment and reinforcements. The Republic has a shitty government going, so they have more organization than some of the other factions, but they are still probably under-supplied. The Western Russians near Finland are backed by China, but they are isolated and literally go around on horses and carriages because they have no supplies.

Very informative. I thank thee. Just cooking up quasi-conspiratorial back plots as an excuse to kill en-mass. For intrigue! And to jockey someone into a minor place of influence rather than being inconcequential.

I think it could easily be argued that the Republic is dead. I mean, when Laurel and Hardy abduct your president out of the capital and get away with it Scot free, you gotta consider your government done.

I've basically made Russia (or at least the North Caucasus part of it) out to be like a Somalia, with mercenaries and militias flooding into Georgia (also a Wild West shitshow) down south to fight while refugees push further into Armenia (which really says something because Armenia isn't that great of a place to be, locked in eternal war with the tattered remnants of the Ottoman Empire.) Warlords roam the place, too many to count. There isn't even the Republic in name, more like some sort of loosely collected Volgograd territories. Ukraine is owned by Poland because #slavs. The Mafiya pushes drugs (meth in particular) down to Armenian cities, through the insurgencies in Georgia that the Armenians are fighting to control. They're a huge force in this region, pretty much functioning as an organized government in many towns and cities.

This map is an older (not sure how in date) explanation of the situation. I must add that it's missing several Middle Eastern states like Syria and Lebanon and shit.

EDIT: iPad doesn't play well with links. Someone try reposting.

Anyways, as for military technology I've made reference to Tsarist-era arms found on Georgian/Dagestani/Chechen/Ossetian/whoever militants. Gangsters in Sevan and Mafiya drug traffickers use Tsarist submarine guns that I've patterned after the PPSh-41. Most of what would be comparable to '60s Soviet-era tech is Polish. So like, Armenia flies helicopters that are basically Mi-8s but produced in Poland and have Polish names like the CdZfGhYzD-8100K Slavinator. They also like to secretly loan brand-spanking-new systems like the gee-whiz MCLOS antitank missiles ("A guided missile! That I can control with a joystick separately from the optic that tracks the missile! Golly gee this is the best thing ever!") to Armemia so that their observers and training detachments can observe the effects in combat.

The Sahle posts set in Russia have dealt with the Volgograd situation rather bluntly. The republic itself is a failed state, as are to a lesser extent the communes. Everything east of the Urals is solidly in the communist sphere.

Yea, for the most part the Republic is going to buckle really soon. A Chinese agent and a Russian insurgent buddy went out on a mission to kidnap the president of the Republic to hold him for ransom, or to force the Republic to kneel.

So at the moment there's the Republican Duma trying to assert control in the wake and the army trying to assert the authority of the president. Both will very soon (or as soon as it takes me to write China actually taking note) start fighting each other and basically split the fighting forces in two.

But it's not as bad as Southern Russia where you have Cossacks set up with inter-lapping quasi-states, ethnic minorities trying to hold out where they're the strongest, and a few larger cities that can exert local control building the framework of a loosely defined confederacy.

Well, they'll start splitting up until I get my people to start putting military officers on his payroll. ;D Converting the forces of a failing state isn't usually all that hard. The promise of pay and and work usually does it pretty well.

@Rain

There's only so many resources to go around in Russia, and Russia is turning into an ideological battlefield and not so much a monetary one. Some might, but others might go to the Tsarina on the hope of and promise of stability; she and her guardians have all the national symbology. Or they might go the route of Makulov and convert to the Reds, directly helping China would have its own rewards too; they have many more resources to use.

This is unrelated to any thread going on in the OOC, but I want to bring it up that our UK player @Morden Man is making the jump from writing about politics to taking part in it. In addition to working for a Labour publication, he's a Labour's candidate for a local government seat in his hometown. I've already pledged myself to commit voter fraud in his honor. Hopefully you'll all do the same and he'll remember us when he goes mad with power.

I finally took my local collage's placement test! So, I finally can finish up my post.

And the fact that you have to take a 'human test' for every single post, that you're going to post, is annoying as hell. I hope that they can remove it soon.
