. . . What have I done? How could I have not seen this all along. We were blinded by the desperation of our quest. If we would have just stopped and thought about it for a moment. I am only thankful that my death will give me salvation of the guilt that would had surely killed me. All of these lives that will be lost. Even as I write this I feel my strength failing me. That damned ring, took with it much more than my innocence. It stole my soul.... All of those souls that tried to tempt fate. Sauron forged the ring so that when it was willingly destroyed, it would release the latent effects in the other rings. Like a key to unlock hidden powers. So confident was he, that upon the rings destruction it revealed to me his plan. Why rule with one ring, when you can rule through 3 kingdoms with 19? If you are reading this I implore you, the rings MUST be destroyed.

Frodo closed the book and ran his hand intimately over the cover. He knew what was coming and very soon. As a last act, he called in his aid. Tomas, please see to it this book is delivered to Galadriel. She will know what to do with it.

Frodo went and laid in his bed, taking his final breaths. He did everything possible to absolve some of his guilt. He knew he was to blame for this, but what else could he do? He closed his eyes, and let his last breath escape hoping he still had some sort of soul to save.

Tomas rushed with his errand. He treated it like it was life and death, because of the look in his master Frodo's eyes. Soon, he found lady Galadriel and handed her the journal that Frodo had entrusted him with. She retired to her bed chambers and started reading over it, and when she got to the final page with Frodo's warning, she grinned. She spun the ring on her finger as she stared into the fire of her hearth. The fire formed into an eyeball and her smile widened.

This will be set a couple milennia in the future. The RP will be after the rings of power have been lost in lore and time and will slowly be uncovered with each ring's power being discovered. The group can either try to destroy them and save Middle Earth, or use them for their own nefarious purposes. I will be implementing a Will type stat, it is your characters resistance over the rings. I will be needing a few Co-GMs or a solid Co-GM as I do have real life priorities at time. We will use PMs to discuss plot twists for nefarious acts so as to keep them revealed from the group. My goal is to have a companionship, but will it be all true hearted people? Or will they destroy themselves? Also, going to divide the rp into chapters, because not all the rings will be uncovered right away.

I'm always up for a LotR RP, but wouldn't it attract more people if it were set somewhere in the Third Age? Millennia after the Ring was gone pretty much only men were left in Middle-Earth, with all the elves gone to Valinor. The whole situation was more political than epic in fantasy terms, so it doesn't leave a lot of room for anything magical, and Lord of the Rings should be magical.

I participated in a tabletop game of LotR set during the War of the Ring in which we were tasked by Galadriel with bringing certain magical artifacts made in the First Age (like Turin's sword, some rings and pendants from Gondolin) to Grey Havens where Cirdan would take them to Valinor before the evil guys get hold of them, all while the war was raging everywhere. There was a certain 'will' system of some sort which controlled how the artifacts influenced the players. Something like this sounds similar (or almost identical) to your idea, but lets the players be more creative as they can play more races, more classes, with different powerful artifacts and have more interesting battles and encounters, and since most of Lord of the Rings fans are more familiar with this setting thanks to the movies and the trilogy, of course.

I should also say that you don't need a big group for this. You can play this game even with two or three players if not many people want to join, as it's more of a guerrilla squad type of story. This lets you have different obstacles along the way, like big bears, trolls, bandits, wargs, shapeshifters, as well as orcs and goblins, of course.

These are just my thoughts, of course; you don't have to listen to me. I'm a sucker for Middle-Earth, so I'll play any scenario. :-)

Definitely seconded. After the Third Age, a lot of the fantasy kind of dies out and the age of heroes and artifacts aren't really necessary anymore. So yea elves won't be around, goblins and orcs are severally weakened, and so on. But if we are still in the Third Age, everything is still pretty much a possibility.

Exactly.

We can always create another RP if this one doesn't come into being.

@zaga2575

So, regardless of what age this is going in, I'm curious as to the races we can play as. Are there any restrictions as to what our character can be when it comes to race and profession?

I shall sign an interest here too. Not fussed about the specifics, but yes typical LOTR goodness is good.

Is the GM alive? I tried sending him a message, but he didn't reply. There are enough people for this to start, so I am curious whether he's with us or with Mandos.
