Murder:

Differs from Mystery, in that Mystery could be anything, and could be a police investigation kind of thing, which tends to be in the thriller genre rather than mystery.

Here's my draft at refactoring the tag system. Includes all old tags and a good quantity of new tags.

== GENRE
18+ -- mature, adult themes
Alien, incl other planets, alien worlds
Arena
Beast, incl animals in general
Crossover
Fandom, incl fanfic
Fantasy
Horror
Military
Nation
Paranormal, incl Supernatural, Superhuman
Psychological
Realistic
Romance
School
Sci-fi
Slice of Life
Steampunk
Tabletop
Vampires
Western
WorldBuilding

== ERA -- the gist of the time period
Ancient
Apocalyptic
Historic
Medieval
Modern
Future
Post-apocalyptic

== TONE
Adventure
Comedic
Dark/Grim
Drama
Dystopian
Epic
Experimental, incl abstract
Light/Positive
Mystery

Tragedy

== UNIVERSE -- aka originality

And here are some I don't understand:

- WorldBuilding? I see this a lot but I'm not quite sure what it means
as a tag. Does is mean the participants are going to all develop the
world together?

@Mahz in era there could also be "Futuristic" as most of those besides modern and post apocalypse are past based.

Psychological refers to the idea that the RP will focus on the psyches of the characters and their development more than the actual events of the roleplay, or the plot itself. Frequently combined with horror, the supernatural and mystery.

You're right about World-building. Sometimes the GM has the whole world figured out already, or a pre-existing setting is used, and the players only contribute the characters they play. An RP in which the GM invites World-building gives players an opportunity to create (part of) the world themselves, often expressed through their character's history and origins.

Looks good, @Mahz.

Probably more that could theoretically be right to add, but its easier to start with some and add more later.

Will you have a means to track tags' use?

Also, will the tag limit per RP be increased a little?

@Mahz These tags look good... only question is that will we be able to add more than five?

I think so, I just have to see what the UI looks like as tag count increases.

Some more tag suggestions. @Ellri@Mahz

Deadly-There is a high chance of your character dying.
This would be for RPs where, as the tag says, your character is likely to die.

PvP- Players don't need permission to injure or kill player characters. Just in-game logic.
Again, as the tag says. If my character wants to stab yours with a sword, or poison to kill, I don't need to ask anyone. However it must make sense for your character to do so, and for the means by which it is done.

Waves- Players may join or remake characters at specific times.
Instead of having only "Open" or "Closed", this means that the host will accept applications and start characters at specific times throughout the RP.

I would say there needs to be a new category relating to the place the RP is at, so like: Recruiting, starting, started bit still recruiting and finished. That way it is easy to distinguish fresh RPs from mature lnes at a glance.

Normally, you can distinguish such from post count and/or date(s) of first post(s).

But seeing how many RPs end up dying before completion, it could perhaps be something worth exploring for people to have a means of marking an RP as "complete". Maybe the option of a place to move such RPs to, where they won't drown beneath the detritus of other, newer RPs?

This might pose more significant UI challenges (and may just not be the direction this site wants to go in), but as a fan of tabletop RPGs, it would be awesome to be able to search by the particular system that's in use in a given thread. On the one hand, it's only a single new tag for any given thread, but on the other, it's a pretty complex taxonomy (if done with full fidelity), and could have implications in the search subsystem as well.

(Added as github.com/danneu/guild/issues/147, so that you can close it independently of the main Tags revamp question).
