Our Dream is meant to be a fairly collaborative RP about the lives of a small(ish) group of humans who find themselves in the same dreamscape every night. We will be following both the real and dream lives of our characters. For example if your character is an ad executive in the real world you would spend a little time talking about what he did at work as well as what fantastical things he does when unbound by the laws of reality. The focus will, of course, be on the magical night-world but I feel it will help the depth of the characters to explore how it is they grow and change in the waking world when exposed to the infinite possibility of the Dreamscape (going to treat it as a proper noun from now on.)

At the moment I think we'll be posting in the same time frame, meaning that when one of the players is writing about the waking world we all will be, and the same goes for the Dreamscape. Obviously it will require a small amount of cooperation for this to be achieved and I am open to alternative ideas.

You do not have to be the same person when you dream. If you are a cynical adult in the waking world you may be a sweet child in the dream, or a knight in shining armor or...you get the idea. This does not mean that you CANNOT be yourselves (in fact I imagine most people would start themselves and change over time.)

It will be important when we begin for you to read the posts of others, as the Dreamscape will be shaped by the thoughts and desires (both intentional and not) of the people within it. While it will be blank when we first arrive, all changes will be permanent unless undone by another dreamer.

The idea may seem a little low effort but I feel that with the right participants it can grow into something incredible. The entire theme of Our Dream is growth and change, as such it can become whatever it is we decide we want it to be. Characters will be accepted at any point but they will be dropped into a world shaped by the imaginations of the others and will very likely take some time to acclimate to the strangeness.

Character Sheet/Bio/Whatever You Like to Call It:

Name: [What you are called. If your dream self changes you may feel free to add/subtract from your CS]
Age: [How many years you've been around]
Personality: [The basic shapes and colors of who you are.]
History: [What you've done up to the point you join the Dreamscape]
Likes: [Things that make you happy, give you strength and so on]
Dislikes: [This can include fears, pet peeves, foods you find disgusting etc.]
Appearance: [What you look like. I will accept photos, textual description or both.]
Dream Appearance: [Will probably start "N/A" but I won't hold it against you if you feel your character would immediately take a different form than their own]

I think that's about it. We can define other aspects as we move forward as this is just a bit of a fun idea I wanted to get going quickly. If there's anything you feel I missed go ahead and let me know here or via PM if you'd prefer.

Interesting. This looks like it would be good for other host to get into as well, since they could be better at actually forming the Dreamscape.

Personality could be added to the character sheet, for both in and out of the Dreamscape.

What happens when you get hurt or die in the Dreamscape? Is your ability to enter the Dreamscape destroyed? Does your Physical body show signs of the injuries? Or is their no affect?

What about daydreaming? Can you only enter the Dreamscape at certain times? Or can it be entered at any time?

What about location? Does it matter where you are in the "real" world?

@Zardoric

Yeah personality was definitely an oversight. I'll add it.

Nothing happens when you die in the Dreamscape, I guess you'd probably wake up.

You only enter the Dreamscape when you sleep.

It doesn't matter at all where you are in the real world though you'd probably want to be able to speak English.

A suggestion then for the timing. If you have people all around the world, some will be asleep at different times the others, so you will need a Location slot on the character sheet, as well as general sleep and wake times for there time-zones.

Also, I doubt it would take long for people to get over the language barrier.

Another question. I'm going to assume that as Dreamers we remember what happens, but is it possible to have our bodies trained and or teach ourselves new skills? For instance, in the dream realm I teach myself how to pick locks, fight HtH, and dance. Do these skills bleed over into the real world? Also, can we gather information not normally available?

I don't think at the moment that anyone is planning on being from anywhere too far from others, though it is a fair point that everyone probably won't be awake or asleep at the same time. Either way the idea is pretty free form so I don't think the extra slots in the CS will be necessary.

If you actually put in the hours of work your knowledge/ability in the waking world would change, but for the most part people will likely be thinking "I wish I could do karate/fly" and then (while sleeping) having that ability. It would take an approximately identical amount of time to truly learn something.

Remember, we may have people here from different time zones and they may wish to have characters in the same.

Thought that would be the case. But still, having that extra 8+ hours a day to train?

Here's an idea of the CS. This is probably going to be my actual character. Now you can go a lot more in depth if you wish but this level of detail is absolutely fine. A lot of the point of this story is the changes your character undergoes.

Name: Adrian Thomas

Age: 22

Personality: Jovial, lazy, often quiet, dissatisfied.

History: Adrian is the average college student, getting his general education degree. He has no idea who he’s going to be or what he’s going to do in life. This causes him moderate mental discomfort, but he tries not to think about it.

Likes: Drinking, Loud Music, Doodling,

Dislikes: Going to class, reptiles, mustard

Appearance: Ironic tee, dirty jeans, messy hair. Adrian tries to look his best but rarely feels like going to the local laundromat or shaving. He slouches often.

Dream Appearance: N/A, maybe a little pudgier than he really is.

Here we are.

Name: Cayce Ward

Age: 11

Personality: Lighthearted and quick to laugh, but also strong willed and quite brave for her age. Has an active imagination and an overzealous sense of curiosity.

History: Though strong of spirit, Cayce's body has always been a frail one. Her life up to this point has been spent in a hospital nearly as much as it has out. Cayce lives alone with her over-worrisome single father, who has isolated her from the outside world out of a misguided desire to protect her. As a result, Cayce has very few friends outside of her constant companion, a saint bernard named Prince.

Likes: Fairy tales and stories, sweets, learning new things

Dislikes: wide open spaces, bad guys, peas

Appearance: Pale skinned and deathly thin, Cayce has dark hair that hangs to her waist and gray eyes. Anything she wears seems to hang off of her ill fittingly due to her unnaturally bony and slender frame. Cayce must sometimes rely on assistance on days when she is weaker, so will occasionally be seen with a cane or even a wheelchair, though she hates to use either.

Dream Appearance: N/A

Interesting concept, @A Friend, and I will ponder it more in depth to see if my approach would meld well, if at all.

Name: Steven Pilman
Online Alias: Pillman
Age: 26
Personality: Can be cold and seem distant but warms up with some work. The most loyal person you'll ever meet and always keeps his word.
History: After graduating high-school, Steven sort of fell off the earth. He didn't have a job, didn't have very many friends, certainly didn't play any sports or was a part of any group/club. His focus solely fell on himself and his interests.
Likes: Solitude, anime, music, the internet and reading
Dislikes: Spinach, going out, mean-spirited people and old people (generally the same, right?)
Appearance: Decidedly average, the kind of person that you glance past in a crowd. Wears round glasses and cuts his own brown hair. Doesn't shave as often as he probably should and could use a bit more exercise, or willpower.
Dream Appearance: N/A but probably a more masculine, sexier Steven to start with.
