This stuff is all new to me. I haven't been on this site in a year or so.

Bio

I've been a member of this forum for quite a while. Currently I'm starting up an RP called Our Dream. I've been RPing for years but I've been out of the game for a bit. There's probably more to know about me but I'm not shy so if you need to know more you can just PM me.

Here's an idea of the CS. This is probably going to be my actual character. Now you can go a lot more in depth if you wish but this level of detail is absolutely fine. A lot of the point of this story is the changes your character undergoes.

Name: Adrian Thomas

Age: 22

Personality: Jovial, lazy, often quiet, dissatisfied.

History: Adrian is the average college student, getting his general education degree. He has no idea who he’s going to be or what he’s going to do in life. This causes him moderate mental discomfort, but he tries not to think about it.

Likes: Drinking, Loud Music, Doodling,

Dislikes: Going to class, reptiles, mustard

Appearance: Ironic tee, dirty jeans, messy hair. Adrian tries to look his best but rarely feels like going to the local laundromat or shaving. He slouches often.

Dream Appearance: N/A, maybe a little pudgier than he really is.
I might be interested!
I don't think at the moment that anyone is planning on being from anywhere too far from others, though it is a fair point that everyone probably won't be awake or asleep at the same time. Either way the idea is pretty free form so I don't think the extra slots in the CS will be necessary.

If you actually put in the hours of work your knowledge/ability in the waking world would change, but for the most part people will likely be thinking "I wish I could do karate/fly" and then (while sleeping) having that ability. It would take an approximately identical amount of time to truly learn something.
@Zardoric

Yeah personality was definitely an oversight. I'll add it.

Nothing happens when you die in the Dreamscape, I guess you'd probably wake up.

You only enter the Dreamscape when you sleep.

It doesn't matter at all where you are in the real world though you'd probably want to be able to speak English.

@sakurasan
Welcome.
Our Dream is meant to be a fairly collaborative RP about the lives of a small(ish) group of humans who find themselves in the same dreamscape every night. We will be following both the real and dream lives of our characters. For example if your character is an ad executive in the real world you would spend a little time talking about what he did at work as well as what fantastical things he does when unbound by the laws of reality. The focus will, of course, be on the magical night-world but I feel it will help the depth of the characters to explore how it is they grow and change in the waking world when exposed to the infinite possibility of the Dreamscape (going to treat it as a proper noun from now on.)

At the moment I think we'll be posting in the same time frame, meaning that when one of the players is writing about the waking world we all will be, and the same goes for the Dreamscape. Obviously it will require a small amount of cooperation for this to be achieved and I am open to alternative ideas.

You do not have to be the same person when you dream. If you are a cynical adult in the waking world you may be a sweet child in the dream, or a knight in shining armor or...you get the idea. This does not mean that you CANNOT be yourselves (in fact I imagine most people would start themselves and change over time.)

It will be important when we begin for you to read the posts of others, as the Dreamscape will be shaped by the thoughts and desires (both intentional and not) of the people within it. While it will be blank when we first arrive, all changes will be permanent unless undone by another dreamer.

The idea may seem a little low effort but I feel that with the right participants it can grow into something incredible. The entire theme of Our Dream is growth and change, as such it can become whatever it is we decide we want it to be. Characters will be accepted at any point but they will be dropped into a world shaped by the imaginations of the others and will very likely take some time to acclimate to the strangeness.

Character Sheet/Bio/Whatever You Like to Call It:

Name: [What you are called. If your dream self changes you may feel free to add/subtract from your CS]
Age: [How many years you've been around]
Personality: [The basic shapes and colors of who you are.]
History: [What you've done up to the point you join the Dreamscape]
Likes: [Things that make you happy, give you strength and so on]
Dislikes: [This can include fears, pet peeves, foods you find disgusting etc.]
Appearance: [What you look like. I will accept photos, textual description or both.]
Dream Appearance: [Will probably start "N/A" but I won't hold it against you if you feel your character would immediately take a different form than their own]

I think that's about it. We can define other aspects as we move forward as this is just a bit of a fun idea I wanted to get going quickly. If there's anything you feel I missed go ahead and let me know here or via PM if you'd prefer.

Good to see the interest. To answer the question, many people in that age group end up stuck between worlds anyway. If he specifically was trying to please the demons there's no reason a bad guy wouldn't end up in the same situation.
Anna bowed at an alter, her mind racing madly. The decision she was making was not made lightly. Though her mother begged her not to, though her father had cried and sung for her, she was determined. Each year one of the youngest in the city must be given to the demons. Anna wanted it to be her.
She was sick. Had been sick as long as she could remember. Though she was only ten she knew a lot about sacrifice and good and evil. Her life would not amount to much. Others with her disease became bedridden. Some even lived for decades. To Anna it sounded horrible. And why, she thought, should a child who has a life, who wants to live, have to give themselves up?
No the decision was made, and no words would change a bit of it. The demons required young blood. Children from the age of 10-19. Every year they would bow before the altar, arch their backs and have their souls devoured by the demons.

Friends and family tried to cajole her by saying that no one knew what happened to a soul that was taken by the demons. That perhaps she be tortured forever or cease to exist. These things were frightening, but not enough to trade another happier life for.

As the drumbeats rose, and all the lights in the city were extinguished, Anna opened her eyes. Her body was glowing now, a stream of dark black smoke wafted from the altar and into her. Tears came to her eyes as she saw the light being drawn from her body. Her vision blurred then vanished entirely.

She felt cold.

````````````````
Anna awoke. A surprise in and of itself. She was in a field. Long tall flowers with white puffs at the end swayed back and forth with the grass in the gentle breeze. Was this Hell? Heaven? A man stood in the distance, unshaven and raggedly dressed. Even from where she stood and at her age Anna recognized the touch of madness.
"You have given yourself to the world child." He said in a near whisper. "You know not what you have done but it is a kind thing. A holy thing." His voice wavered, threatened to break.
"Who are you?" Anna asked, knowing nothing else to say.
"I am Dastrit. Just a spirit entrusted with the teaching of a fresh soul." He said, meeting her eyes with his one wild ones. "I am going to show you the ropes." He smiled. It was unnerving.
The Binding will be a supernatural battle-oriented RP about a group of young people who were sent too early to the afterlife. The sheer amount of life-force they hold allows them to hold between realms. They are taught to harness their own spirit energy into weaponry and skill and they fight the things that humans can't see. Evil spirits of all shapes and sizes exist in this world, and once the spirit world fills it will begin to overflow causing hauntings and possessions worldwide.
Long Story short you are young ghosts, sacrificed early in life to become warriors in the afterlife. You don't, however, know this. The people of the world think they are appeasing the demons not combating them.
The Living World: The world of The Binding is in it's early stages. There are guns but mostly early powder weapons like rifles, oil lamps are on the streets. And there are no plastics so everything is still made of stone, wood and metal. Superstitions are more prevalent in this world and it has caused most people to live together in order to protect themselves. Wraiths, banshee and skinwalkers are all examples of what the people of the living world fear.
We will not spend much time in the living world, we can only manifest briefly there and only as apparitions
The Spirit World: The Spirit World is very different from the living world. It exists by siphoning energy from both the world of the living and the dead. As such it reflects both and appears as a twisted vision of the world the spirits have seen only glimpses of. This world contains every possible creature that bumps in the night, zombies, ghosts, walking skeletons, hags, werewolves, vampires. The leaks caused by improper population control are the root of these stories. When the Bound do their job well, these stories are true ONLY in the Spirit World. If they slip up however...
