THE ENTRIES!!

Remember, as a courtesy to your loyal bean-counters, to tag @vote when selecting your winner. Just makes it easier for us to find and tally everything up. ALSO -- if your work is either (a) signed, when it shouldn't be, or (b) not signed, when it should be, message @mdk and I'll fix it (or just tag me in a post, so if I'm not around, other people can see that you're claiming your story and respond accordingly).

Voting deadline is May 18th!

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! The story is a quick first draft of something I've had in mind for a few weeks and I churned it out to meet the deadline, so there's plenty to work on.

@Flagg *nod* <part of entry answering to Flagg ends there>

...

Can't I have three votes? There are three entries here that I want to vote for, but I like them just about equally much. No specific one of them stands out more than the other two. Which makes placing my one vote a headache.

this here needs to gain more attention...

We've not even had time to read the stories yet... let alone review them...

Where now the reviews and the votes? Where is the discussion that was blooming?
Where is the nice and the critical, and the helpful tips flowing?
Where is the hand on the rudder, and the attention glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall stories growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the past behind the hills into shadow.
Who shall gather the votes of the plagiarists burning,
Or behold the flowing years from the authors returning?

Well. We should have at least eight more people that could voice their opinions. That is, the writers of the entries.

I've gotten the impression that this is finals week and everybody of that age has been pretty busy. Maybe that's the cause of the apparent inactivity?

Still, it would be nice if some more people would post. I was kind of hoping to look at the votes of others before voting myself, because there are three entries that I feel equally deserve my vote and don't really want to pick between them.

@vote I really enjoyed Leo's Snow Day, so I'm gonna have to go with that. I really don't know how they managed to do it, but the way I felt like I'd been there Leo's entire life was amazing, and I will admit, I did cry. It's the sort of emotional attachment that can only be expressed through vivid writing like that, and it's something that continues to fascinate and amaze me.

I'm actually gonna try and read/vote tomorrow if possible. It's been a very busy time for me. I have to write about 25 pages in the next two weeks in the span of four essays. But it's probably busy for other people as well. While I have piles of essays, others probably have that and finals coming up...or vacations or something. I'm just lucky to have time during a class today to even log on. :/

You're right, there's not enough conversation in here! Not yet anyway. Let's fix that! I'm working through everything today, just under halfway done and I need a quick break.... here's what I've got so far.

No, no particular reason other than it was prophecies. Kind of like the Sophocles tragedies, it's just kind of inevitable despite what they try to avoid it. In this case, he recognizes his need to do it and he has the sword that can eliminate an ancient evil like the primary antagonist. Though, I did rush this quite a bit and didn't get nearly what I wanted to have into it. Oh well, it happens. I'm glad you seemed to otherwise enjoy it! As always, thanks for the review.

@mdk

Lol. I love you. Is that too strong? Whatever. Yes, this was rushed. Very rushed. Written in 2-3 hours rushed. I have a thing called 'The Wolf and the Raven' somewhere in my documents that's a weird combination of poetry and a Def Poetry Jam kind of style that begins a bard telling the tale of a tragic romance between a shapeshifting wolf named Faelan and a shapeshifting raven named Mara who also happens to be the last living heir of the kingdom that was overthrown. The land was named Aurora ('dawn' of a new era pretty much) and the old land was called Rouwen (it means sorrow, so you know we're in for some tragedy here). It was meant to be he is this 'Geralt of Rivia' style character who was exiled from his shapeshifting clan and ended up meeting this woman. They fell in love but the politics and cruelties of war keep him from wanting to be involved until one day he has to take a choice to defend some people he knows from dying and ends up having to cut his lover down. Yeah, I must have been in some sort of depressed mood to come up with that lol. And, when she died she was to have a sort of revelation moment. He buries her, a winter rose forms and the winter snow begins to finally lift. Ended up changing it for this particular story, but I didn't have enough time to order my thoughts and such. My dog had recently been diagnosed with kidney failure and then passed away very recently so I just didn't get to writing until rather late. Not to make excuses, but that's that. So yeah, this story here morphed from where it began. I wanted to spring the prophecy a bit earlier as well as that was my own major complaint. I had planned to be closer to what originally inspired this and have several short thematically connecting stories of his adventures with Triss until the tragic climax as was anticipated. I was hoping to rip everyone's hearts out the moment he cut her down... Is that cruel of me? I guess I have some GRR Martin in me, after all. Alas, it wasn't meant to be for this entry but I'm glad it seems you and others have enjoyed it for what I was able to put into it. I reaaallllyy wish I could have either done it as I planned, or had been able to include their budding romance before this trial to give it an extra punch i the gut. Thank you for the review, a lot of your thoughts aligned with my own as it so happens!

After considerable consideration, I @vote for "I was not always a frog". To think that just reading the thoughts of a frog that wasn't always a frog could be so interesting. Very well done, indeed.

I'm on the fence, very much, but at the end of the day I think I have to give my @vote to "I Was Not Always a Frog." I love that story so freaking much I want to hire Dave Attenborough to narrate it over nature videos.

Last day for votes -- NOT the last day for thoughts, though! Do feel free to comment on anything you've read, even if you don't have time to review literally everybody. And of course there's no deadline for sharing your thoughts -- take all the time you need.

So nobody is surprised, we're announcing winners tomorrow and keeping the anonymous things anonymous, unless we hear from you first.

@vote goes to "I was not always a frog"

This was hotly contested between that entry and "The God in the Cave". Two rather well written pieces, oh! I can't forget "Love Isn't Love."

Seriously people, you rocked it this week. You're all quality, and there's so much improvement you can make that I love it. The potential of the writers who go into this forum contest is mind-boggling to me. Anyone else feel that way? We got some talent up in this RPG place. REPRESENT!

God in the Cave presented me with a wonderful fantasy-esque medieval world. The supernatural and basically demon fighting in essence, but it's a lead in to a greater story following her on her path of vengeance as a warrior of a different God perhaps? But, more for her revenge in any case. I love that. Reminded me a bit of the Daenerys bit with the old sorceress and Khal Drogo. Not that you write in a Game of Thrones-y fashion, but the tone was similar. Great stuff, I will be providing a larger review later.

Love Isn't Love is a frank, to the point bit on love. It's honest. It's true. It's difficult, yet they manage to grow older and not run away from the hard things; but go forward. Love ain't easy, but it's beautiful when you get your victories. Also, the realness. Especially that bit of longing having that imagination of someone you love getting married/being with someone else when you felt like your mistakes weren't going to be permanent. That whole bit on the imaginary woman from Estonia. Brilliant. Many things you can still work on, I'll get to that in my reviews at a later time.

And you Mr. Frog... That was beautiful. The repetition of the phrase was well handled. Right on the money with the theme, and in a wonderfully unique approach to it. Reincarnation and having that sense of humanistic thought. The narration is wonderful. Excellent use of perspective. This felt like something I would read as a short story in a magazine, published. Look, you've got a clear talent and it appears to be well-honed. Yes, please. To all of this. Hopefully I can provide more critical thought when my full review comes.

Forum errors be damned, WE WILL HAVE RESULTS!

Echoing what @Dark Wind just said..... honestly, seriously now, we probably could've found an award for literally everybody in this contest run. But, there are only four to give, so here they are. Not *much* ceremony going into this post, I apologize -- sorta getting right to the point, lots of IRL stuff happening, forgive!

THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE:

"I Was Not Always a Frog," by @Liriia!

with an honorable mention to

"The God in the Cave," by @Flagg!

BONUS WINNERS

April Showers, the storm that leads to rebirth, goes to "Rising Embers," by @Blizz!

May Flowers, the world itself made new, goes to "But Here It Was," by @PlatinumSkink!

The Birds and the Bees, in lieu of actual avian-and-insect epics, goes to "Love Isn't Love!"

Congratulations all around!

Gratz to the winners. No doubt you deserve your victories (we can't say our opinion till we read them).

We certainly did not deserve any award for our unfinished story.
