I am bothered by the fact we are not advancing. I guess @darkandstar is waiting for @EruditeAssassin to make edits or something...

It is indeed unfortunate that it has slowed some because of this. I have been checking often, every couple of hours really, to see if we have advanced as I am curious where this is headed.

In unrelated news, while we await @EruditeAssassin's corrections, I spent the day with a giant lynx. She covered me in hair, but I am okay with this.

You are very okay with this.

I took a day off today to see a doctor.

@VKAllen That's what I was thinking.

Tell you what, I'm calling for DM action. @darkandstar, could you possibly overrule the turn into your preferred version if @EruditeAssassin neglects to make changes in a timely manner?

This is what I did in my previous D&D RP. Give them some hours to respond, if not their actions will be defaulted.

More than hours I would say, @VKAllen, a day is fair enough. But I agree that they should then behave accordingly as controlled by the Dungeon Master; for a turn he simply behaves as a non-player character. That way nothing is lost.

I think we should all agree on some sort of a time limit for responding if a post requires some edits to be made, just so we'll avoid arriving at standstills where nothing seems to be happening. I'd say 24 hours since the problem is recognised, seems fair to me. Yes/No? Other opinions on the matter? Different approaches at the problem?

A twenty four hour time limit, if you are the one being awaited on by the party and Dungeon Master, after which point your character falls under the domain of the latter's control. While controlled by the Dungeon Master for your turn, you take the most reasonable action according to the situation and the character's demeanor. As an example in this situation, the dragonborn would resist the grapple and breathe his breath weapon on the guardsmen. Why? It would not be out of character and would not be explicitly working against his person.

Sort of a system of trust and a safety net wherein the Dungeon Master can keep things moving.

As for why I say twenty four hours as a limit is because I am sure there are some like me who do not always have access to Internet and even if they do, they cannot access the Guild.

In this case I'd probably use the pickaxe to strike, given how the player in question has left that into the current state of the post, unlike the breath weapon. Besides, the latter is a limited resource so I would err onto the side of caution here.

But that is just nitpicking on the current case.

I based it upon the number of targets, their close proximity, and more importantly, while it is very useful and appropriate to the scene it does provide a cost. An indirect cost, I mind you, for that person's inactivity - nothing such as an experience or gold loss, or a hit point loss or worse, but something that strikes as a "fair trade". While the guards would likely take little damage, it would have still weakened them all ever so slightly.

Even though I'm not officially part of this (yet), that seems like a very reasonable time limit for a person to respond.

In short it boils down to you either picking up and throwing the guard at the other guard, after beating the grapple attempt, or... avoiding the grapple altogether and striking with the pickaxe. You need adjust the rolls appropriately, for example, the pickaxe only critically strikes on a roll of 20 (not a sum of 20 or greater) and for two times its damage; thus a critical with the pickaxe would be 2d6+Strength modifier damage.

Lest the item have Keen Edge, although clearly it does not.

Yall got held up on some really small details. Let's not bitch out regarding semantics, and a simple "These actions were allowed from your writing, please remove all else." would've sufficed.

If you're kicking me out, go to it.

@EruditeAssassin I was not expecting hostility, since nobody was talking about kicking anyone either. As for "bitching" about things, that is hardly what we have been doing. In our attempts to help you by telling what should and/or could be removed we have been referencing the rules so you would be aware of them in the future, so the game would go smoother for all of us. It is an act of legitimate goodwill not meant to harm anyone.

Now, since you asked us to use that form of feedback, I'll sum up the current problem: You must make an athletics check against the grapple and you need to roll your grapple on disadvantage. Add those. You may not throw the guards. Remove that. Fix the damage result of your pickaxe, it's way too much as is. Alternatively swap the pickaxe to a use of your breath weapon. So there.
