I don't know a single person in real life who plays it. Depends on the crowd you hang with.

Well it was worse before, but I literally knew entire families who played it during it's peak. Then again. I am swedish, we average 4 computers per family at this point I swear. Also the "nerd" stigma is practically non existent over here at this point.

plus my bosses at the time, every teacher I had etc. Like, it was insane.

Good morning right back at ya!

First, for Lil, so many thoughts and well wishes and good things and prayers (take your pick) are being wished your way this morning, for heat and a return of much warmth! The only thing I worry for (because you have blessedly good common sense, and obviously won't let you and yours freeze out there!), is whether your pipes might burst. I'm shocked it's taken the 'emergency' people this long, but I suppose bitching on my end won't do a damn thing, so I won't. Just... *hugs tight*

Second, congratulations Heroes! *cheers* 3rd place is still great, bronze-medal worthy with a big grin!

Third, oh yes, much adoration for my peeps letting their nerd flags fly! *fist bumps all around* Yes, even in (or perhaps especially in?) Sweden, where nerding is so common, apparently there's only gradations of nerds now. For what it's worth Hellis a young lady nerd of my most precious acquaintance has been holding out hope for some time, for the men of United Scandiland (as you so eloquently put it once), because she's also tall [by American standards], and longs to know what it's like to be a 'petite' woman in someone's eyes! Add to this the inherent nerdiness factor, and Viking ancestry? Oh, I imagine she's buying a plane ticket right this very moment!

And hmm... Obviously Lil's got hella lot more things on her mind than internet breakfast for everyone, so... *sets some boxes down in the middle of our table* So sorry, but when you're all stuck with me, it's pastry day, because I'm a terrible cook. So here you all go, help yourselves to bear claws and apple fritters, half-moon cookies (the big softy kind!) and conchas and eclairs and of course most every type of handmade, hand-dipped donut you could want.

With sprinkles. Of course.

I'll let Heroes get the coffee - he's far better than I with the coffee to be honest, and the tea.

Sweden sounds like a pretty awesome place.

I've bounced around MMOs for a while. WoW, Eve, Guild Wars... WoW's probably still my favorite of them so far, but the Elder Scrolls Online beta sells me a little more on the game every time I log in.

... speaking of that, lemme steal some of that bacon before I hop back into the beta. Strips of fatty pig is the best morning meal, especially with some iced coffee to wash it down. Or maybe hot coffee for Lillian, or hot anything for Lillian right now *shudders* You need a hotel, a fire, or both.

Actually, how many hotels have decent fireplaces?

wow is just so. Stale. Like, there is no skill involved, they streamlined it even more then before with the talent tree, the combat is just macro this, done. :I It was fine for its time. Its horrible outdated now.

People like to talk about macroing combat in WoW... but anyone who tries that just performs worse than someone who actually plays the game. The game is far from perfect, and the last couple expacs have definitely had their issues (Wrath remains the high-point of the game, both in terms of quality and number of subscriptions) but in the end it's still the MMO that I've found easy to enjoy for long periods of time. Continuous endgame content, story that -while mangled- actually matters to game progression, even plenty to do for casual gamers.

If WoW's done anything right, it's continued to adapt and remain successful, despite virtually every other gaming company trying to knock them down . Outdated's probably the last term I'd use for the game, there's newer MMOs far more archaic in design than WoW is.

As long as I can tank, I'm good. Fun stuff, tanking.

I hope the temperatures have raised some and the heat gets fixed for the frozen one. I had my own bad experience with an emergency maintenance hotline recently and had to relocate for a night, so I can somewhat sympathize there.

And congrats on 3rd, AH. I was always Protoss, man. Wasn't there some kind of Protoss blimpish unit that could send out swarms of tiny attack drones or something? My memory is fuzzy.

You mean you haven't had a single friend play wow during its popularity over here?

It was merely stating what I see and experience, you can't really disagree with experiences as they are stuff that happened >_>. I mean, it was even in news papers at one point about how big it was over here.

Edit: These days all my friends are playing LoL/DotA instead of wow though.

No, I don't have a friend who ever played it (that I know of). What do you mean I can't disagree? You swore we averaged 4 computers a household. I disagree, as it is not true. I disagree that there is no "nerd stigma" here, and I disagree with the statement that "everyone plays WoW".

What I don't disagree with is your personal experiences, like what you, your friends/teachers/boss have done, as I know nothing of it.

Right my bad. Obviusly the computer thing was a bit of a joke, but sweden DOES have more computers per capita then most countries. The fact you dont know anyone who ever played wow kinda blows my mind. As I said, almost everyone around my age played it back then around where i live.It was the worlds most popular game after all. There is perhaps some nerdstigma, but it a lot less apparent at least where I have gone to school/worked etc. "Special hobbies" such as Larps actually attract entire families and you have stuff like the "roleplaying nad larp" camps for kids, even the church do it. It's that kind of stuff I meant.

These days most my friends have moved away from wow onto LoL however. So there is that.
