The city would be a good spot for corrupt characters but you won't find much honourable characters. The Mountain, however, has the ability to have both and I'm big into the Eyrie in ASoIaF so Mountain for me!

Voting for the City, but my character will probably either be from the Desert or the Sea.

With such an even split like this, I might just make it split into the city folk and northern folk.

Or have a city at the base of the mountain? That what you can have societal split between the city folk who live at the bottom and the hardened mountain folks at the top of the mountain.

@Roosan 'the city' refers to the capital city where the royal family resides. Ya dig?

Well sure, but why can't it be at the bottom of a mountain?

@Roosan Because the mountains don't indicate people but rather a province of sorts.

I guess it could be at the bottom of a mountain for sure, but it'd make no sense if it was bang smack on the border of the province.

Sorry, I feel we're talking at crossed purposes. Why does a mountain definitely mean the border of a province? There are examples of mountains in the centre of countries in real life, Ben Nevis for example, but this is a fantasy land. Obvious inspiration for a central mountain would be the Eyrie but there's also the Lonely Mountain or that mountain in the Inheritance cycle the name of which I don't remember but had a bunch of dwarves in it.

Personally I think a capital city at the base of a mountain is a cool idea, particularly as it lends itself really well to a deep cultural divide between those that live on the mountain and those that live at the bottom. Say if the mountain was seen as a holy location, like Mount Olympus, perhaps the people who live on it have less learning and shun technology but have a closer spiritual connection to the faith and are seen as holy men, while those at the bottom are often seen as soft and weak but control trade, commerce, politics and develop the most advanced technology of the era. There's a lot of stuff that can be done with that set up and it satisfies both parties in a tight vote.

@Roosan I agree with you. We are talking about 2 different things.

I agree the city can be at a base of the mountain. That.. arguably already is in the picture Capn Crunch showed me. It's awesome.

But the vote is about where the RP takes place -- if we make it take place in 'the mountain' then that refers to the mountain province -- i.e. not the capital city. The mountain province probably has a city yes, in the mountains yes, but it's not 'the city' which exclusively refers to the capital city of the kingdom (and not of 'the mountains'.) I think this might be a bit more clear if Crunch had released some of the info I've seen, because right now it seems like we're voting more on a biome where we want to be in which isn't quite the case.

Ah, I see. I thought we were doing some group brainstorming, I didn't realise there were already a lot of things decided and set in stone.

But fair enough, I guess I'll wait for the GM information release.

Much less set in stone. I wouldn't quite say that. Basically we're at an impasse GM wise because there's conflicting views in the interest check, and we need to make a decision on how to organize the families, which families to pick, how many families, and where to set the RP.

Ultimately Crunch makes the call.

Well the way I see this happening in the most organized way is picking 2 families (whichever provinces they are from) and setting them up in 'the city' at the royal court. We can start out with that, for example the 'plot' could be everyone is there to enjoy a feast held by the king.

That way every character is at the same location, and we can get interaction. After that shit happens (as it tends to do) and then characters can go back to their respective provinces (so, we'd go to mountains and sea areas) where they will scheme.

But I'm not sure how interesting the scheme thing would be.

@MissCapnCrunch you shoud name the province by name and not by what it is mostly made out of. Like explain it a little with some lore.
