Instead, he prefers to observe them and make his own judgements based on facts. Because of this, he is able to accept people for who they are, not who they were.
- Driven- Overly so. Dex knows that he's good at what he does, and he does his best to excel at his job. He would rather lose sleep than see a criminal get away for their crimes. However, Dex takes a few days to rest in-between cases, knowing tha the can't stay driven if he doesn't stay rested.

Lo and behold, it turns out that Elizabeth was really the notorious "G", who was the head of a criminal organization that specialized in smuggling, black market dealings, and murders. Realizing he'd been tricked, Dex fell into depression, turning to drugs.
After he was asked to step aside from Scotland Yard, his parents found out about his addiction. He was sent to rehab and completed his six months. After being released, Dex decided to move to New York. After he arrived, he jumped from job to job again. After another year or so of that, he encountered Capt. Jameson of the NYPD Homicide Dept. Jameson remembered Dex from a trip he took to London, and offered him a place as a consulting detective. It was shortly after that Dex moved into Time Square Apartments. He's lived theere for nearly two years now, and has been sober for nearly three years.
