So, I'm new here, so I'm not exactly sure how things roll in these parts. However, I do know that I've been looking to join in either a Play by Post style Pathfinder campaign, or gods willing, a Shadowrun 5e campaign. I don't have high hopes in the later. I normally GM, but I'd love to be a player for once in my life. Anyone know of any campaigns that need a new player?

I'm not much for GMing, but I've been craving a PF campaign for a while.

So, I'm gonna drop my interest here and hope a GM of some kind will pop up. Maybe if we band together others will come.

That would be nice, but GMs can be difficult to find. Typically, a player will break down and just run. I've done that in the past more times than I care to remember, but I've burnt out on running beyond my live group (and none of those bozos are willing to actually learn the bloody system enough to run *sighes* )

But yeah, I've been itching to use either one of my alchemist or rogue builds I've had sitting around...

What type of style would everyone prefer? Rolling or point buy? And if rolling, would you prefer 4D6 and discard the lowest, 4D6, or 3D6? I'm asking because I might be able to GM if there's enough interest. I'm still relatively new to GMing having only done it for about 3 months now, and it would also be my first time doing it on a forum instead of in person; but I'd be willing to give it a try if the party were the right size (I'd say a 4 person party is a nice number).

Personally, I like rolling for stats. When I run, I use the usual 4d6, re-roll 1s, take the best 3. It gives the players reasonably decent stats without breaking past 18 (before racial modifiers).

Forum based is a tad different than usual, although Pathfinder usually works out alright compared to other systems. If there's no dice roller on these forums (I haven't been around long enough to tell), then it would be wise to find an online one to verify rolls. I used to use Invisible Castle years ago, but it seems that they're not around anymore? I can't tell.

I heavily prefer pointbuy for fairness.

So we got one for each, eh? Hmm...

There is in fact a dice rolling system on here that could be used to see what you roll. Tested it out just now, myself. You can find it here.

Only problem is that it doesn't show what each individual die rolled... so that's kind of a bummer. And I can't find any other dice roller that displays all your rolls. Unless you all wanted to go through the trouble of recording your rolls on video or something? But all in all point buy might be the easier way here.

It looks like you can copy/past dice rolls. Testing... link? EDIT: it seems to work, so that issue is resolved. Not terribly robust though.

Normally, I'm all for dice rolls for character creation, but given that the dice roller here is somewhat limited, point buy may be the safest/easiest route. Shame Invisible Castle isn't around anymore...

Hmm. Yeah, we'll just roll with the point buy system. Everyone's fine starting out at level 1, right?

I'd be willing to help out with that as things go along, sure. If you have any questions or if you wanna do some sort of cram session getting any a bunch of stuff explained at the same time, I could help with that.

1st level is okay. Personally, I like starting a bit higher (should've seen the epic level 3.5 game I was in years ago... story for another time), but for the sake of simplicity for everyone involved, starting at 1st is fine with me.

Side note: any limitations? Like are firearms, hybrid classes, occult/psychic classes, the new vigilante class, etc, okay? I'm making the assumption that all 3rd party content is banned/GM approval only.

@Rock - if you don't have any of the books, don't dispair. Thankfully, Paizo, in all their kindness, set up Pathfinder to be Open Source Content, which translates to all the rules, classes, feats, skills, spells, and other game info is free. That said, all the Pathfinder setting stuff, is not (they want you to buy those books).

That aside, like Speedy, I'm happy to help you with teaching the system. I've had to teach my live group before. It's not too bad. It's mostly about figuring out what you want to play and going from there.

Firearms and hybrids are fine. Occult/psychic I haven't looked into too much yet though, so I'll give that a check later. I also haven't seen Vigilante yet.

I've also seen campaigns that have gone horribly because of 3rd party content, so I think I'll opt out on that one.

Do we have any kind of plot? Or is it a generic 'you meet in a tavern and kill a dragon' kind of thing?

i'd like to give it a try but i've never done pathfinder, if you're willing to teach me then great, or at least until people gather up, tell me the most basic things i need to read in order to be able to comprehend what's gonna happen and what i should do/know. but if you prefer people who already know, that's ok too i'll understand :)

I have a custom-made setting I could pull out for this if everyone's fine with it. Character-driven stories and plot-driven ones are both fine by me, though I like to have some sort of overarching plot in place either way. I have never gone for the "you all meet up in a tavern" introduction as that personally feels a bit tacky. In the same town, sure, for whatever reason your character is in town for.

Alternatively I'm fine with some of your characters having history together prior to the beginning of the campaign. Or even all of you if you wanted to make this a Friends roleplay.

Absolutely. I like 4 characters as a party for stories, as a side note, because it gives everyone equal time to shine. When we get to 7+ people or so it just gets... cluttered. Messy. Might even get uninteresting, imo. But yeah, if you have any questions we could talk via PM or something. Just hit me up on that whenever.

I'll send you a PM in a little bit with some details as well. In the meantime, read up on the link that Yamazaki posted up above for a list of everything there is on Pathfinder. You don't need to read all of it right away, of course, but just getting the feel would be a nice idea.

That being said, Kibaro would make for 4 people. If no one else wants to join super badly, I'd be okay with this current number of people. My absolute max would be 6 people though if they absolutely had to join.

I'm interested. Hopefully this game takes off the ground. Just had a bad experience with a GM vanishing right before we started.

I'd be fine with either Point-buy or rolling. There's also Roll20 if you want to have a place to share dice rolls.

I'm quite experienced with Pathfinder, so if anyone needs help finding the right mechanics to represent their character ideas, I can lend a hand with that.

Cheers.
