I am *dramatic pose* the great and mighty *another dramatic pose* YAMAZAKI!!

Okay, that idioticy out of the way... So I've been doing this whole play-by-post thing for a very long time. Got my start on Gaia Online many many years ago, and in my annoyance of the changes going on there, I finally left and tried new places. Turns out this here Roleplayers Guild isn't half bad so far. Not been here long to judge yet.

So about me in particular? I'm a massive geek (who isn't these days?), obsessed with anime, video games, and D&D and other tabletop games. I have a degree in Computer Graphics, specialized in Animation, and still work retail. I'm married to my lovely, although not always understanding of my hobbies, wife for 5 years now. I just turned 30, so I'm old man gamer these days. GM for my live Pathfinder group (occasionally tangenting into Shadowrun for some crazy fun) every week.

Umm... I can't think of anything else to say right now.

You are doing just fine, dude. But I feel your pain in the work end of things - I had to pull a 12-hour closing shift, followed by an opening shift the other day. Retail sucks...
Keris allowed the man to attempt his diplomacy. She was a woman of little tact, but she understood the value of trying to avoid a fight. However, she steeled herself for a fight, given it was unlikely that they would stand down.

[ Keris readies an action to attack if the elves rush the party ]

Sorry for posting so late. Writer's block sucks.
As the party ventured into the ruins, Keris kept her eyes peeled for traps. This wasn't her first dungeon crawl, although she was hardly experienced. But she understood her role at this juncture - make sure nothing goes off and kills the group. Or at least herself. The ranger found coins, but there were too few for the spellthief to make a fuss about them - a few gold was not much. Likewise, the discovery of the fullplate interested her, as it'd still sell for a decent amount of coin, but upon the ranger's sudden silence, Keris understood.

[ Keris makes an effort to listen in on the elves, furthermore elvish is one of her languages known: Listen check: 19 ]

Then another figure appeared from behind. Gods, we're surrounded! Wait, no... Of course, another one of these idiots. Cleric of Pelor maybe? Keris quickly twisted her head back, putting a finger to pursed lips, and quickly shushed the newcomer. The spellthief didn't want those within to spot the group's approach. Thinking quick, Keris smirked. The new guy was in heavier armor than the rest. The woman spoke quietly. "You're late. Keep quiet, there's someone up ahead - and you're on point."

[ Initiative, as requested: 15 ]
In my past experience with the pbp medium, I've just done init as it normally comes up, although I would have my players do this as part of their first post of the encounter. the same would hold true for attack and damage rolls, although saving throws would have to be done reactively.

Don't worry about the dice slowing things down too much. It will a little, but once we get into the groove of it, it should flow naturally. It's only a minor inconvenience at worst.
Geraint was wonderfuly vague in his description of his talents, which caused Keris to roll her eyes. Still the mysterious cliche, huh... Although with a damn tiger at his command, I'd wager he's a druid. Meanwhile pipe-man is more of a fightery type, likely either archery or light-fighter. Well, this could be... interesting. Gods I hope I don't die down there. That'd just suck. With nothing more than a shrug, the red-haired spellthief ventured into the ruins. "Let's get this thing started. The longer we wait, the longer it takes to be done with this job..." She kept her eyes open for traps, hoping not to find any...

(searching for traps = 25. Also Keris will light a torch if it starts getting dark in the ruins, which I suspect will be very soon.)

Keris shrugged. She glanced at the tiger that Jaegar mentioned. How did I miss that? Gotta start paying attention... The spellthief returned her attention to the group. "The name's Keris Mardok. Adventuring spellthief. I'm ready whenever you two, er, three," she glanced again at the tiger, "are ready." She did a quick mental checklist on her gear, making sure she has enough food, water, and tools for whatever might happen.

[ooc] Short post is short... [/ooc]
@The Harbinger of Ferocity@ELGainsborough

I'll post in the morning after I get a bit of sleep. Didn't have much of a chance to post today. Any how, we're doing alright for the moment. I've done a fair share of PbP tabletop'ing over the years (even ran a small forum dedicated to it for my old D&D crew), so you are doing just fine. Just don't expect every post to be lengthy as players, since often times it's merely describing what we intend to do and what we want to say.

On a side note, since there only seems to be the three of us, I would suggest looking into making this a Gestalt campaign (as per Unearthed Arcana, which is basically dual-classing: taking two classes per level). It'd make the tiny party a bit stronger and much more flexible without getting too crazy (the action economy, as well as our stats, would keep the characters inline and I'd suspect it would put us at a power level around a 4-man party). Of course, if we elect not to do so, that'd be fine as well. 'Tis only food for thought.
@FickleSickle
So, if you're doing it here in the tabletop section, the real question that needs to be asked is what system you intend to use? While you've linked the unofficial RWBY RPG system, I may have something a little more solid of a system to recommend: Big Eyes Small Mouth (3rd edition). For those who do not know of this wonderful little system, BESM is an anime-styled general system that allows for a great deal of flexibility and customization. This is especially vital when it comes to the nature of the weapons and magic that appears in the series. Building most of the characters in the series would be doable with BESM while still maintaining its balance (as long as attribute benchmarks are observed, otherwise you get someone dealing out 50+ damage per hit when the baddies only have 20-ish HP)

Just food for thought.
Keris, by her very nature, was an adventurer at heart. Sure, she could've turned to theivery easily ages ago, and had in the past, but let's face it, the live of adventure had much more promise. The danger and reward in such a lifestyle called to her in ways nothing else could. And to be honest, the red hair makes it much harder to be sneaky, so it would be very difficult to be a quality thief...

As the red-haired woman traveled towards the ruined tower, just as the job boarded requested, she discovered she wasn't the only one headed that way. A man in heavy robes and a cloak walked towards the ruins. He slowed his stride to allow Keris to catch up, although she had no intent originally. She had her spear at the ready, as well as a couple of daggers poorly hidden in her boots. He spoke up once the distance was shorter. "I must ask, are you as well headed to that ruin? I mean no offense in this question, just that you seem of the determined sort."

Keris wanted to roll her eyes as obviously as she could, but she resisted the urge to be mean. Instead, she spoke back, "I could throw that question right back at ya. You're obviously trying to pull the whole 'mysterious' gimmick, which means you're going for the exact same thing as a crazy out-of-towner like me would: Gold and Glory. But yeah, I'm headed for the ruins." She shrugged. "But I suppose I could use the back-up on this, assuming you're out here for the same thing. If this is as terrible as the job posting claimed, this isn't likely to be easy. Otherwise a few locals would've already did the job and claimed the reward by now."

The rest of the journey was fairly quiet, which Keris was actually grateful for.

Another man, coming out from hiding, approached the two, speaking of rewards. Keris sighed. "No, we're just sight-seeing. I heard this was a wonderfully romantic place to bring one's lover..." Sarcasm dripped like venom from her voice. The red-head's voiced returned to normal as she continued, "So lemme guess - another adventurer trying to fight his way into fame and fortune?" She shrugged. "So, I guess introductions are in order..." She didn't continue.

[ooc] lemme know if the colors work or not. I try to make sure dialog has focus so that it can be easily spotted. You can blame my time on Gaia for that... [/ooc]
