I like @Ey Iran's post as he has some valid points regarding image usage, but I'd say the most abused for the "lazy writer" are images to convey your PC's or NPC's appearance, or story location(s). Imagery should enhance an already well written description, not replace it, and I find too often a picture on a player's CS under the "Character Description" section with no text to support it as though the author is saying "No need to use your imagination here, folks!".

Just my two pence...

@The Harbinger of FerocityWhen the Guild was the old Guild, before the take down and what not, there was an Rp I had running that was high fantasy. And there were many people that were enjoying it. But there was one guy, that would not only listen to when addressed, but ignored others when things were not going his way.

My job as a GM is to provide a world, characters and a story that goes with an adventure that players effectively forge from what I give them. But when some guy just basically inserts his own lore, without my consent or talking about it, it isn't unfair when I give a warning, especially when it annoys everyone around him. It just wasn't a fun experience.

There was another project I can throw shade at... All I will say is... "Zelda does not need Christianity. Termina was a Realm of Link's Imagination and this cannot exist with Hyrule." This was before the crash too. The Cringe was real.

The aspect of moderation and review is not only the right but duty of a Game Master. Players if any sort who ignore the, "Sorry, that does not fit the theme and idea I had in mind." warning really are wrong if they do attempt to impress it further. There is no issue with outright stating "no" to additions. But, it all should be considered and weighed.

On the other side, as that can be a universal problem, I can say players should always approach the Game Master with new ideas, even if they are declined - where appropriate of course.

I've grown to dislike that, "The Image I use is sufficient," mentality, mainly because I always have a written description added onto an image. Especially concerning still images, one can't necessarily convey proper poise, posture, normal attire, voice, or anything of that nature that requires a finer pen to describe. Even then, I'm picky with my images in that I rather have high quality images that not only fit what I have in mind but also fit the entire theme of the character. It's why, when I use real life people, I use rather well-known individuals. Gives me better, higher quality photos to use as a running theme while giving me ample space to write out the much finer details that you can't see or garner from just a photo.

Also, stock photos are the bane of my existence. I'm an HQ elitist *cough*

Regardless, because of that, I never allow any of the players in RPs I GM to just give me a photo. I need something more than just one image to get the feel of the character beyond just their surface looks. Cause, while looks and appearance are on the surface, there are so many intricacies that one can write out aside from hair color, height, weight, etc. Honestly, that's why I use images in the first place, so I can skip the dull parts of the appearance, so it doesn't feel like I'm just listing things. That's the purple, flowery poet in me, though (I've been working on stopping unnecessary filler description in my writing don't sue me).

Double post, WOOPs.

People who don't take criticism well fucking kill me. If you're applying to my role play and I state in the OP of the thread, "Advanced/High Casual Standards," and you can't take the feedback I give you on your CS, then you obviously don't belong there. If you have an inherent problem when it comes to critique in that you can't differentiate that from being scolded, then I have no idea why you're writing or have such a subjective hobby. Art obviously isn't for you if you can't understand why someone's critiquing you and every critique is taken as a personal affront to your work.

That's not to say don't question your GM. But do so in a kind and respectful manner. Ask why they want you to change it and ask what they're looking for, if they haven't already spelled it out clearly. It's good to keep the power balanced, but it's never good to directly challenge your GM unless they're doing something insanely dumb.

(If there's anyone out there that I have thoroughly enjoyed working with to craft and change and fix a character to fit into an RP I've run, it's probably @Lady Amalthea; your level of professionalism is absolutely amazing, to be honest, even in the face of nitpicking GMs. Looking back on those exchanges we had, I can clearly tell we were picking your character a part way too much and the things we pointed out were minuscule and nitpicky. Entirely unnecessary, in hindsight. So, here's my formal apology for being a pain in the goddamn ass and a thank you for having the respect not to grill us for it.)

Yuuppp.
When the forum was the old one before this version. (I.e. Before the shut down by hackers.)
In some worlds I gm'ed. People would apply characters that... just did not fit.

Fandom or Original creation... Nicholas Tesla does not belong in EarthBound.
Yuri from Tales of Vesperia does not belong in Final Fantasy.
And the ones who use art that does not belong to them at all? They don't even credit them.

And I'm about to say something that might offend someone. But when in the CS I ask for a Gender.
I don't want to hear/read "Inbetween." I get some people are hermaphrodites. It is an error in Biochemistry and all that jazz.
But when you throw a Futa into an adventure based Rp... Just no. Most, I mean most people biologically speaking are Male or Female. Unless you are a machine that is designed around of a human, then you just say "Male" or "Female" frame. I hate when people make a big deal over it, but the fact is their Tumblr politics don't belong on a Forum like this.

It isn't a case of sexuality. The fact is... Characters should not be... inherently designed to be an object of fetish... And when you see it in their writing, it just makes a nerve twitch inside. It just does not fit with the tone of everything else around, and it just makes sighs of anguish all around. Just a massive "NOT ONLY DO I NOT WANT, IT DOES NOT FIT EVERYTHING ELSE AROUND."

Or when you have that one guy with the most exaggerated weapons, armor and everything that is not physically lift-able in that universe, they bitch when you ask them to compromise or tone it down. I like my Rps like I like my anime- I don't want it.

(Though, to be blunt, the only Anime I actually like is Ghost in the Shell, and Jojo's Bizarre adventure.)

Even better:

They just don't read anything. At all.

I mean, the point about RPing isn't just to write your little fantasies with like-minded people. It's about reading first to understand what you're supposed to work on then writing the things relevant to the RP.

Not to dump your own sick ideas into other people's face and expect everyone to accept your shit when it doesn't even fit the game world.

Autistic trolls much?

Only noticing mistakes/typos after you've pushed the 'post' button T_T xD Not such a big issue here on RPG because they have a handy "edit" feature, but on some of the other forums/sites I've used they don't always have that and it's hella embarrassing when you don't notice them and can't fix them without double/re-posting lol

Eg: "He turned to look at the dial, turning it around to turn on the machine"
