Blame the sleepless, restless nights on insomnia since you have always grown accustom to having a difficult time falling into deep slumber. Yet when it came to waking up, it almost seemed accidental... While you snored and dripped with drool in unconsciousness, years ticked into decades, and then decades into a full century. Time passed like it was suppose to. Nature listens because its stubborn, but man-made machines are a different story. Devices can deviate from programming. The cryotank quit-- it disrupted your nap. So what was your course of action? You refused at first, withstood from destroying the mission's agenda. For two years, you survived on a food synthesizer eating three square meals a day. You gnawed on the bitter reality of isolation, surviving worse punishment than prisoners locked in solitary confinement. And though people break, you did not crack under the pressure to sacrifice either your own sanity or the destiny of your comrades who remained inside the cryotanks. Instead you exploded.

The Artemis was a hidden underground base constructed to protect and preserve mankind. A company known as Cryonautics specialized in the innovation of cryotanks. The earth escalated; it evolved in terms of advanced technology, however you could propose it also enhanced the means of conflict. Typical outcomes of an apocalypse resulted: famine, disease, death, and war. All things must come to an end, thus Cryonautics gingerly devised a plan to choose six people willing to spend multiple lifetimes stored inside of a cryotank. They called it, Project Renascence. At a designated period of time, the tanks would finally open and awake the sleepers, releasing them to discover the earth that they had long left. With this, it prevents the extinction of the human race and maintains both the culture and history that may have been destroyed and forgotten in its time of world wars. Before entering the tanks, the six were given a prep pill. The drug would steady and prepare their bodies and minds to undergo such an extreme feat. Taking the pill was their last memory.

At a single instance, the five exited the tanks. Yes, five, only five. The sixth had escaped his tank, two years ago. They cautiously stumbled through their new surroundings, they have never actually walked through the base. But instead, the five have only seen models of its concept.

You could hear the footsteps approaching as you sense hope shimmer a bit brighter-- you were no longer going to be alone. Excited but also frightened and anxious, questions bubbled in your mind. Would they be enraged, infuriated because you activated their tanks for a rude awaken from the base's main controls? You were in no position to make such an executive decision, but you did. And finally there was only one thing left to say, "T-the Artemis is not a base, it’s a ship. And we're not on earth, we're in space."

Characters

Welcome to Carvings of the Galaxy, a story centered on character development. As followed in the introduction, there was a twist- the six chosen to participate in Project Renascence became the six crewmates aboard the ship known as the Artemis. I left it on a cliffhanger to leave you asking what will happen next. There are two options to be decided, the first one being to repair the sixth member’s cryotank in order that the ship can meet its destination. Where the Artemis is going, that is for the sixth member to reveal it to the rest of the crew. The second option is to set course back to earth, carrying out the only thing you signed up for. Those are your two choices, but be prepared for twists and turns in your path. Remember however, you are the last of the human race- each one of you match humanity’s probability of survival. There is an equal number of males and females in order for reproduction of the race. I will post the character sheet in the OOC once there is are enough reservations.
Crewmate 1 (Female)(Pilot)- @TheMadAsshatter
Crewmate 2 (Male)- @Atrophy
Crewmate 3 (Female)(Computer-Scientist) - @SheriffLlama
Crewmate 4 (Male)- @Eru Iluvatar
Crewmate 5 (Female)- @Deserted
Crewmate 6 (Male)(Awaken 2 years before the rest of the crew)(Doctor)- @beyond visions

Author's Note

So I'm kicking it back with my all time favorite genre, science-fiction. I thought this would be a cool concept, to have a roleplay centered on the preservation of the human race while adding in the involvement of a sleeper ship. Cryotanks leave many possibilities for things to go wrong, or even right. As written above, I'm striving for a story based more on character development. So, I'm looking for characters with very colorful personalities, having traits that really make them stand out. With that, I need active players that can commit to a roleplay. I would like to get a post at least every two to three days. As for language, romance, and violence, keep it all PG-13, including the OOC. Another thing that comes into question for a roleplay is the quality and quantity. Usually I prefer post at least 500 words long because I won't lie, I love long post with important details, it is the reason why I've decided to submit this in as advanced. But I'm not strict about it, because we are all here to simply tell a good story regardless of the word count. But yeah, there's that, my guidelines for the roleplay- hope to see you abroad the Artemis!

Well, freeze me in liquid nitrogen upside-down, another game by beyond visions. Count me interested. This game looks... cool. Get it? Cool, as in frozen, as in cryogenics? Cool like that.

I'm kind of holding off until there are no spots left, and I jump in like seconds before the last person. And then throw you for a loop like... "Do I raise the number of applications?" "Do I cut someone? If so, who?"
You know, just to mess with your brain.

But seriously, count me as a player if you will have me.

That's a pretty interesting concept. I'm definitely interested in this. I'll start working on a CS in a bit.

@TheMadAsshatter Thanks for the interest! Is there any spot would you like to take? And hey, don't worry, I'll probably have a character sheet up by tomorrow.

EDIT: Or even... tonight! We'll see.

So, it sounds like we are supposed to be the prototypes for this sort of thing. But I can't tell, are we supposed to have the knowledge and skill set to make this work and therefore have undergone a meticulous screening process? Or are we just the "hey, let's see if we can freeze people forever, round up some people crazy enough to do it."

@beyond visionsOh I like this. Gotta few questions:

1)How far flung in the future was it before our characters were turned into popsicles? We talking centuries from now with all sorts of rad sci-fi things like robots, flying cars, and lasers with the year being 300X? Or minutes from now in an alternative universe where the US government flipped the budget of the military with the budget of things like NASA?

2)Likewise, how bad were things on Earth before we were frozen? Was it all doom and gloom end of the world type of stuff, or was it more like "Yeah, things are kinda rough in some areas but I still gotta go to the office and work on the Dodgson Report"? Like, would our characters have been greatly relieved to have been chosen for Project Renascence while our neighbors super jealous, or would people think we were nuts for agreeing to freeze ourselves just because the price of gas was up and we're at war with yet another guerrilla force?

3)How well would our characters know one another? Would we wake up and be like, "Oh, that's Sally. She's a brain surgeon whose favorite color is green and enjoys playing tennis on her days off. She's one of those people who didn't own a TV and would constantly talk about it, and she kept asking if the prep pill was cruelty free. I don't like Sally. She's a jerk." Or would it be more, "Oh, that's Sally. She's, like, a nurse or something? Who cares, looks like a jerk." Or would it be more like, "Oh, that's a stranger. She looks like a jerk."

4)How big is the Artemis for 6 people? Cramped, where everyone is in each other's personal space all the time? Or is it large enough for us to get lost? What kinda rooms are there? Is it all science and survival stuff, or is there a library and a place for us to dunk some basketballs?

5)So we're gonna make steal the aesthetics straight out of the movie Alien for the Artemis and fill the ship with crappy VHS player, tube TVs, and computers that don't run anything beyond DOS, right? ...right?

@SheriffLlama Yeah, I understand. The thing about that is, it be best if you were to have a character with cybernetic limbs, let it be something that is detachable. So, the cybernetic limb could be taken off before entering tank, thus there would not be an inferences once inside. And don't worry, you'll get your leg or arm back. Cryonautics did not send you up there without making sure you can recollect the metal limb.

@Deserted Yeah, those who have been selected, have also been tested- so, best of the best.

@Atrophy

1.) Nah, we in that fancy high-class sci-fi type of universe. So jetpacks, virtual reality, holograms, and pretty much everything else you mentioned. We're going to have fun here!

2.) Definitely a doom and gloom situations, making your characters rather lucky to have been selected by the company. Therefore, it be likely there is to be something special about your character.

3.) Before the characters entered the Artemis, they underwent a screening process, also they spoke to each member on different accounts to monitor their behavior. They were not going to send anyone that was at each others throats. But just because they acted calm and cool for the company's cameras, they could be slightly irritated by the person. Once, all character sheets are in, I'm going to submit a character relationship, which will be exciting.

4.) Throughout the roleplay, I will introduce new rooms and parts of the ship while trying to display a picture of each. I will say that it is a cramped ship, but yeah something you can get lost inside of. There will be various rooms of recreation, perhaps yeah there will be a small library and a gym to box in.

5.) Ha, ha, nah, we've got the good stuff.

So, do we have any preferences @SheriffLlama @Atrophy @TheMadAsshatter? Technician? Pilot? Doctor? Brainiac? Survivalist? Etc...

I usually like playing uncouth character concepts. I often handle gender-benders, and handle girl characters fairly accurately surprisingly enough. I also usually like tethering my character (either backstory, personality, or ability) to other characters to build a team.

So? Any preferences?

@Deserted Alright, I'm tied between the brainiac or the doctor. But because I've never made a more medical-skilled character, I'm leaning over to doctor.

I am ridiculously interested. Please say there is a spot left for a die-hard sci-fi fan. (Asimov is literally my God).

EDIT: Discount my initial Farscape idea. I skimmed the OP far too quickly with a fault of over-enthusiasm for a promising sci-fi RP. It's been a while.

@Eru Iluvatar Yeah sure, there's room, but I suggests its best to reserve a spot so I can lock it in for you.
And I haven't watched Farscape, but by the show's synopsis I'm guessing that you're asking if our characters will be spewed across the depth of the galaxy- oh yeah!
