So, lets do a quick comparison.

The champions have, a martial arts master leader, a dragon, a cosmic demigod, a succubus, a legend slaying olympian, a power swapper and little miss friction.

Whilst the splinter group have, a trained killer, an old man in a mech shell, a psychic, an anti night light and a literal chameleon.

Splinter group is slowly turning into the underdogs, who wants dibs on being the batman of this?

It's just bad luck for the Splinter group that the three members who are strongest on paper (Lancelot, Friction and GodFist) chose to side with Champions. Still, at least there's nothing to say that it has to come down to fisticuffs at dawn between the Champions and Splinter group. They all might act like adults and solve their differences with reasonable, measured discourse. Fat chance, I know, but there's always hope.

And on top of that members could always switch sides during the RP. If any of the three listed above switched sides for whatever reason it would be a far more balanced fight, at least where pure firepower is concerned. After all, one can't count out the Splinter group out of hand, as they seem like they have a far more specialised skillset, better for surgical strikes than the brute force the Champions can bring to bare.

I'd also say that the Champions have a few more wild cards in their deck, several of which don't look as likely to do things as 'Champion-y' as the rest might like.

Plus the Splinter group might appeal to The Womb who looks pretty intense...

Hmmm, i'm tempted to make a werewolf. Probably for the Splinter group, or maybe a loner, i'll see.

Aye, I know I can't judge, I just love how one sided it's looking at present. Just means things are going to get interesting should the two ever come to a head.

If yall want I can make a second character and replace Lancelot, reserve him for a backup char, and have someone to back up the splinter group? I have more ideas then just dragons.

@Lunar Feel free to jump in!

@MetalHead A werewolf would be pretty cool. I'd like there to be as many PCs as possible in one of the two teams, roleplaying these characters as having history, relationships, and grudges is a huge part of the fun.

@CadenGallic anti night light. Hehehe.

To everyone:

I'm wondering if maybe the types of heroes that decide to join each group speak not only to what they value but what they are capable of. Like it seems like the splinter group and the champions have different agendas. If the Champions want to continue to do things forcefully, and Nagoya is an unfortunate incident that shouldn't diffuse the effort. The splinter group, I would imagine (and members correct me if Im wrong about your characters) would be more inclined to do more covert style ops. This very much speaks to the abilities at the table.

Sure if the battle is physical Champions vs Splinter, I'm putting my bet on the champions.

If the battle is who is better at being a more successful team, that is subjective and depends on what each team is trying to accomplish.

Just my thoughts.

@MrDidact I'm not volunteering now. But as a general inquiry would it be out of the question for us to RP multiple characters to make things interesting. Even if we decide to later on... not right now.

@EkkoRhodes The way I see it, the Champions are still very much trying to be a respectable team. The Splinter... aren't. The Splinter can go in all kinds of directions, but the truth is that they can do things that the Champions can't.

Right now, the limit is one PC but that may change in the future.

My only concern then is, doesn't this just turn the Splinter group into a bunch of villains?

Villains, anti-heroes, heroes with different goals, or methods, or whatever we like. We'll just have to see how things play out.

The way I see the splinter team is that they're disenfranchised with the Champions and their wanton displays. They want to crate some kind of order, or some kind of due process to go along with this whole "hero" business. Like, they may want to restrict heroes from using their powers in particular ways (and of course, minimize collateral damage). And if they break the rules, are subject to some kind of arrest or something. Wheras the champions seem to be more like "meh, shit's gonna happen, lets just keep hero-ing it up and hope the bad shit that happens isn't as bad as last time". Basically, the Champions are having a hard time understanding if they're really heroes or not, and are essentially in denial.

So as far as I can tell, the line of hero/villain is being blurred here. What is bad? What is good? Perhaps a bit of both is in order? It's tought o see where the lines are and I think that's the point. The Champions are not the good guys, and the splinter are not the villains. They're just a bunch of people with good intentions that have different ideas of how to achive those intentions.

@Polyphemus sound about right?

EDIT: also, any word on when we can get this show on the road? I'm fond of lurking up to a point but, my fingers are starting to get a little....itchy

@CadenGallic That depends on what you believe villainy to be and what course the players take it. The Champions are a visible, sanctioned, real superhero team. With all the baggage that implies. The Splinter are different. They have no obligation, no ties, no official recognition. They're the vigilantes that every comic book superhero started out as. It's up to you the players to decide what direction the Splinter takes. Cap and co became vigilantes but they don't turn into super-villains. And even then, this world is not black and white just like the real world. What really make someone a villain? Breaking the law? Vigilantes do it all the time. Is a politician or businessman who uses the law to do evil not a villain? Those are the kinds of questions that will be discussed through the roleplay.

@Yin Jingshin That really depends on the motivations each PC has. Some in the Champions want to keep doing their thing, others want to be more transparent. Some in the Splinter want even less oversight while others want accountability. My character, Red Jack, for example wants to go on a destructive path that many Champions wouldn't take. The only real difference between both at this point is that one side is official and the other isn't. The roleplay will see that morph of course.
