Okity dokitey artichokity. This thread blew up with all the force of a thermonuclear bomb.

106 miles is insane for a ship. Like, Multi-kilometer vessels are alread ridiculous unless you're talking a pre-FTL antimatter based starship in which case it needs to be really huge. But 106 MILES? 106 METERS is a small destroyer. I'm okay with giant-ass superstructures but not warships that are 100 miles long. Thaaaaats too big. Even as an ultimate boss that you need a coalition to take down that's too big. Like 10 miles is the absolute maximum or some shit like that.

Honestly though? We don't need no numbers. "Holy shit that thing is huge" is good enough. "It's the size of Rhode Island!" We don't need to measure and compare our starships that definitely are not gigantic rods with a huge gun going down the middle. In the end though, make your ships smaller. They can still be insanely huge but not so huge that they fly over a planet and everyone goes "oh hey a lunar eclipse". The UU is based on insane quality but no quantity, which is fine. Just don't make things ridiculously huge.

a big misconception is that they have infinite energy. unless i did a boo boo by accident in my app, they can draw energy from vacuum, not infinite energy from vacuum.

...Just curious, but what exactly does that even mean? Like, I'm not asking for some kind of in-depth explanation, but I just don't get it.

You know that whole energy can't be created or destroyed rule?

Forget that rule.

Big doesnt necessarily mean "immune to weapons any sensible Type 2 civilization has" a 106 mile starship without some kind of defense system Can still be damaged by Space-Weapons such as relativistic mass drivers or Antimatter missiles, or kamikazi at relativistic speed.

Thats not generally how Vacuum energy works though, you arent creating energy you are harvesting it from the vacuum, Vacuum energy would probably be best for low yeild power generation though, better for powering probes and not giant battleships

It's my experience that vacuum means literally void, nothing. Nada. Actually...

How I've heard it used anyway.

"The calculation that underlies the Casimir experiment, a calculation based on the formula predicting infinite vacuum energy, shows the zero-point energy of a system consisting of a vacuum between two plates will decrease at a finite rate as the two plates are drawn together. The vacuum energies are predicted to be infinite, but the changes are predicted to be finite. Casimir combined the projected rate of change in zero-point energy with the principle of conservation of energy to predict a force on the plates. The predicted force, which is very small and was experimentally measured to be within 5% of its predicted value, is finite.[34] Even though the zero-point energy is theoretically infinite, there is no evidence to suggest that infinite amounts of zero-point energy are available for use, that zero-point energy can be withdrawn for free, or that zero-point energy can be used in violation of conservation of energy.[16]"

they're still subject to conservation of energy, but they can draw from the theoretically infinite form of zero point vacuum energy. by no means can they draw the entire output (the output is finite as said in the quote) but it's a safe and high tech form of power generation.

No, like do they just stick something out in the middle of the vacuum of space? Do they have a machine that has a vacuum inside of it? I don't mean how as in how does the process work.

REEEEEEEE

Listen here you lil' shits. 'Vacuum Energy' is the concept of generating energy from the fact that the 'lower you go' (E.G. quantum particles), the more random shit happens. Basically, modern science sees that if you go low enough, you (probably) get particles that spontaneously appear in pairs and collide with eachother, exploding. If you can stop them from exploding and get the particles, that's effectively free energy. The thing is, those spontaneously appearing particles never stop spawning, as far as we know.

So if you can harness that shit from a vacuum, that's literally free energy. No ifs ands or buts, As we understand. Of course, they also thought nuclear reactions would totally destroy the earth, but y'know.

Edit: Alternatively, 'vacuum energy' has also meant 'sucking up alternate universes' and 'literally magic lol'

Alright, then I adopted an incorrect definition from an incorrect source. My field is history, not....this, at any rate.

I've just came across an off-the-wall idea for a Vacuum Warhead of all things.

In the spirit of getting the Sovs a bit more up to par, I am yoinking that idea and running away with it.

I mean, I've proven I know shit about physics here, might as well embrace it and go nuts with the leniency this RPG offers in regards to handwaving.

Oh yeah, that whole vacuum energy thing is cool. As in, I'm good with it and it's also cool IRL. Instead I'll just keep using my nuclear reactors and sometimes antimatter because fuck you and your bourgeoisie vacuum energy.

Yeah, it was just a joke. I like saying that.

Ah. My apologies then.

Yeah I should probably clarify: When I call people "idiotic-ass fucking piles of shit" or anything else really I generally don't mean it. If I do, you'll probably be able to tell you fuckmaggot.

This is entirely true. If anything, a 100 mile long ship (that DOESN'T HAVE TURRETED MAIN GUNS) would be easy pickings. But there's no need to have a 100-mile long ship aside from measuring your e-peen. We all like to throw around big numbers but they usually mean nothing, just stick to verbal descriptions and if you have to use numbers do something other than punching the numpad a few times.

Again, no offense intended, I just talk like this.
