I don't mean to come off as rude or anything, but as someone who's had the opportunity to study samurai at great length I'm afraid Tatsuji would be more interested in killing her than spawning any sort of relationship there.

Yikes. Well, I think that's rather counterproductive if we wanted to go down that route. You know your character best; I'll keep the smol shadow away from your samurai then.

@Stitches Zashiki is approved! I was about to ask if she had a name until I read the misc.

Unless someone already pm'd you, I'd love to have Gaignun be the one to look after her. I think the legend behind her people coming from The Shadowland would be a driving factor for him, since he at one point dealt with a major conflict from there. They have somewhat of a history together anyways considering her elders approached him about her recruitment into Hakumei. Let me know what you think :)

First of all, thanks for accepting Zashiki!

See I wasn't too sure how much of an involvement Gaignun would have in the RP. I wondered if he just sent the missions out, or if he was one of the commanding officers in the taskforce...if he's around 24/7 then yes, yes, 100 times yes. If he's the one barking out orders and keeping everyone in line then there would be no excuse which would explain why he isn't keeping an extra close eye on Zashiki, especially when the Warashi Elders contacted him prior and quite possibly made all of the requirements clear.

I kept it as a 'legend' because I didn't want to overstep my boundaries. Certainly, in the case of the plot, I won't have this particular Zashiki involved with the Shadowlands - born and raised in Igan, so it can be a bit of a surprise if/when they encounter some of the Shadowlands or some of their denizens. The Zashiki Warashi clan are, as I said, a subspecies of an existing race within the Shadowlands - a small tribe of former denizens who, for reasons unknown, went "fuck this shit" and escaped what appears to be feudal Japanese hell. This was probably...thousands of years ago, maybe millions. There's been a bit of cross-breeding with humans, elves, and dwarves which gives them their fairly humanoid shape and a higher tolerance to light. Even the Elders would be grandsons of their original shadowlands counterparts, at best.

That's not to say I have some pretty cool ideas in mind for if/when Zashiki crosses the threshold into the Shadowlands. She's very impulsive and follows her gut instinct - bad things are in store if her instinct is telling her to act like a Shadowlands monster again. The Zashiki have essentially been domesticated, but even dogs can go feral if they're exposed to enough violence. And she's already proven that she doesn't have a lot of self control, else she wouldn't have been locked up for years.

Buuut, I'm rambling. In reality I think she'll have lots of fun poking at all of the sensitive spots within the team and trying to encourage them to rebel or simply separate and abandon the taskforce entirely; she doesn't want to be there, after all. And when she's not being a bitch I'm sure she'll provide a bit of comic relief, play games with the others, that sort of thing. Essentially, I'm really looking forward to seeing how the team treats her as well as how she'll treat the team. So far we have a LOT of 'family outcasts' which will help build a kinship between the members, but that's not a guarantee that they won't get pushed too far - like Tatsuji - and actually flat-out attack Zashiki.

I guess all we can do is wait for the IC to come out. If you're posting for Gaignun, I'd love you forever if you interact with Zashiki...hell, if he met the clan in the west and we're starting in O-Kuni then could it be possible that Gaignun brought Zashiki with him all the way from her family's grotto to the village? Then we'd have the pre-established relationship, he'd know a few of her tricks (no doubt the moment it turned dark on the first night Zashiki would've tried to bolt it) and she'd already know not to fuck around with him. Plus I may or may not think it would be really cute if Zashiki floated along in Gaignun's shadow/sat on his shoulder when it was bright an sunny. The height difference is hilarious.

Zashiki's plenty childish! Just...not in the cutesy fun-loving way. More the whiny little brat sort of way. I don't know how old she is but she's not that old for an Oni, but being alive for several decades is more than enough experience to get you treated seriously regardless of age.

Regardless, if you make that Kitsune I have no doubt whatsoever that Zashiki will actively encourage their immaturity. I sense pillow fights and practical jokes on the horizon!

No, she holds true to the Nure-Ongao or "The Soaked Woman" who weren't sirens trying to lure people to their deaths, but a branch of Nure Onna. They are cousins to the Iso Onna, or those with women's heads and the body of a snake.

The Nure Onago can be found in several parts of Japan. In Nuwa in Ehime prefecture, it is said that you can see her hair stretched out and floating on the surface of the ocean, and it is from there that she appears. In the Uwa district, the Nure Onago doesn’t come from the ocean, but it is said that she appears from a soaking wet mop of hair.

The Nure Onago always has a wicked smile, and laughs hideously. If by chance you hear her and, thinking she is just a regular woman amused at something, should laugh along with her, then she will attack you swiftly and without mercy.

In Kagoshima prefecture, in the cape of Tajiri where the famous festival for the god Ebisu is held, there is a similar yokai. They call her the Iso Onna (Beach Woman), and like the Nure Onago she is soaked head to foot. The Iso Onna appears anywhere there is sand, either on the actual beach or inland if there is sand. The main different between the Nure Onna and the Isa Onna is the lower half of their bodies. The Isa Onna is said to have no lower half, but instead is formed like a snake below the waist. Both the Iso Onna and the Nure Onago are types of the yokai called Nure Onna.

Most depictions of the Nure Onago show her as being nothing different than a regular human woman, dripping wet. The Nure Onago is a relative of the Hari Onna (Needle Woman) from western Japan.

Ah, to be honest when i made the CS I wasn't thinking of Majora's Mask. I was thinking of one of the Japanese horror films I studied in my Japanese Cinema class while abroad. It's called "Onibaba," about two women in the sticks out in japan while wars go on. The elderly woman of the two meets a samurai who threatens to kill her if she doesn't show her the way back to the main road, and he wears an oni mask. The elderly woman tricks the samurai and steals the mask from his dead body to use to scare her very young, very pretty companion for a complicated reason I'd rather not get into. In the end, because the woman wore the oni mask out in the rain, the chemicals that were used in the mask cause it to fuse to her skin, making her unable to take it off on her own without being in severe pain. She perceives it as the dead samurai's curse, and even when she's able to remove it, she has become horribly deformed.


It's a great film and really inspired me when I made Tastuji; you can find the whole thing with english subtitles on youtube.

Yeah, Gaignun and Kotori will be with the team. They won't be actively helping on missions (unless shit gets out of hand), kind of just in the background keeping tabs on everyone. They're more NPC, but I will be posting as them, so yeah, I can definitely have Gaignun bring Zashiki with him from the grotto.

Currently re-working the profile for Yoshitsune, sifting through a load of inappropriate images to try and find a decent piece of artwork on a Kitsune - I have a back up, but I'll only use it as a last resort and helping Aranthus with his CS - so got a bit of food on the table at the minute.

Frankly since Tatsuji was human, he understands that sort of feeling and more than likely feels the same way. I imagine it's harder finding a...lady of the night, willing to allow you to be your customer when your hair is on fire. IS fire. Much less finding a wife which is his main priority frankly.
