@shylarah

@Prince of Seraphs The OOC says there are barriers to separate the land. A couple comments on this. Firstly, that would heavily restrict crossing and while I like this, and think that using Tuatha blood is clever, there might also be small gaps at certain times, though knowledge of them would be kept carefully -- or shrewdly sold for favor. They're probably not without risk -- might get trapped if you try at the wrong times, in some cases, or sent somewhere else entirely, possibly very far away or even in a different realm.

There are established gates for border crossings along the Boundary but the idea that it's not completely stable in some places and with the right timing you can get through in in specific areas is a rather interesting one.

Secondly, with those borders in place, unless one has very powerful artifact, a lot of artifacts, a lot of Tuatha (or willingness to kill the few possessed), or a /large/ gap, it completely prevents effective warfare. Not that this isn't the point, but without some threat of actual war, tension suddenly becomes a lot less.

The Boundary is not impenetrable. Simply consistent. With enough magical power, say that which a Court Leader would have under his command it is possible to rip open massive sections of the Boundary through which to transport troops should you wish to go to war. However per Yggdrasil's agreement with the fae leaders of old the Boundary will not disappear so easily. Given time depending on the size of the incursion Yggdrasil will repair the tears in the border. Which means that warfare while a definite possibility is not something to be undertaken lightly. It costs a lot of resources to get large amounts of troops through the Boundary which is another reason why the Court leaders turn to more subtle ways of dealing with opposition in other courts, small gorilla groups, sabotaged transport lanes, embargoes, assassinations. The kind of things that don't require as many people. Also the Tuatha who's blood is used to gain entrance to the Boundary has to be both alive and present so no one harvests Tuatha's for their blood, they must instead keep them in their employ.

I JUST READ THE NEVER ISLES STUFF AND HOLY CRUD IT'S NEVERLAND, PETER PAN, AND GAAAH! *flail* excellent interpretation. ^.^ Although, given the way I usually portray sprites and pixies, Tinkerbell would be...well, appearancewise, a sprite, but the whole chiming bell thing I've never used. ^.^;; Might have to rethink that, if I want a sprite or pixie char. Their ability to get into trouble -- at least with Lei -- is so much /fun/. Save that she's bound to Max in the other rp. *sigh*

I've always thought of Tinkerbell (Belladona) as a pixie but the two do share a number of commonalities. I'm thinking in this interpretation that really old pixies gain the ability to alter their size which I think would sort of add to Bella's intimidation factor. She's a small cute little pixie... till you get her mad, then she's seven feet with a look of death in her eyes.

Speaking of, what are your rules on half-fey, changelings, and magic among humans?

I haven't thought it out completely yet. I'm still working on the definitions for some of the courts so that seemed like a minor detail till I have the basic environment set out. My gut feeling at the moment is that none true bloods or humans with magical abilities is severely limited either in commonality or potency (haven't decided which). I'll get to work on that once I get some of the more immediate details sorted.

Also love the bit about Arthur and Merlin. <3 *wriggles*

Thank you, will likely be adding to that in due course.

...I'm kinda tempted to give a mortal bard the gift of permanent life and youth, but in exchange neither he nor his songs will ever gain fame, but that'd be more a Mortal Realm kind of thing. *stuffs the idea in the slush pile*

Maxwell: ...you do realize that by killing the Tuatha you'd be killing the goose that lays the golden eggs, right? Just throwing that out there. Even if the rules didn't make it necessary to keep them alive.

Which emphasizes just how bad the racial prejudices are. When the fae see the mortal world and everything in it most of them think "That should be mine and it would be if not for the Tuatha." Being Tuatha is a very small step up from being black in post revolutionary America.

Did you mean post-Civil War? =P

I figure they know, but the rules seem specifically designed to keep them from being slain. *shrug* Just an observation, really. *amused* Well. That and Maxwell being his usual squishy don't-kill-them self.

How exactly are the new Bean Sídhe chosen? Is it random, can any infant fae become a Bean Sídhe or are they picked from a specific breed of fae for generations? Can the Bean Sídhe have children? If so given the constraint on their powers being passed on what type of fae would the child be? How does the Ua Briain communicate with the dead? Is he/she the only one allowed to view these "spirit summoning"? If the Bean Sídhe are not permitted to interfere in the natural course of events how does the ua Briain advise the Winter Court? Given mortality rates does the Death Sense actually do anything beyond give the Bean Sídhe the knowledge that ever living thing will die eventually? What purpose do the other 25 Bean Sídhe serve if they are not attending to the Winter Court?

I'll get to a more indepth examination ever everything in here a bit later (there is a really lot of information there) but first I've got a couple of questions. How exactly to Blendecs form? You mention that they are created by the Ley Lines but it is not particularly specific beyond that. Why do they hate the World Tree's offspring? Could you elaborate on the function of the Benign Compact, it seems to be a contract that lets someone have knowledge of the true names of newly formed Blendecs? How could someone take control of that from another? And just so you know Yggdrasil is one of the most powerful entities in the fae world. If Sathanas were to take shelter there he could do so only by the permission of Yggdrasil and would likely be the subject of a number of cruel jokes and experimentation by the tree who often gets bored. Also I should mention that the Four Treasures of the Tuatha De Dannan were lost when they were ousted from power so the Blendecs would never have had a chance to attempt to steal the Dagda's Cauldron.

Blendecs form at Leyline Intersections as malign acts are committed by other species amongst the Fae. It is possible the same is true in Mundus as well, although again it would be tied to acts committed by Fae - Human acts are insufficient for the process. The connection all Fae have with various natural arcane forces (control via true name, glamour, compulsive pacts, etcetera) means that every act made influences the Otherworld (and again, possibly Mundus as well) in a particular fashion. Various natural forces rerout most of this influence through the creation of 'haunted' or 'enchanted' locales and genius loci, or else by generating various natural phenomenon (ball lightning, derechos, will-o-wisps, etcetera). Similarly, the psychological impact upon the victim/s of these malign acts has further influence that stacks with the influence of the perpetrator.

Blendecs specifically are manifestations of intent and willingness to do harm to others. The cognizant nature of the influence itself is responsible for the formation of a sapient being. Implicitly, Blendecs are not the only Fae that form via this process - I would be unsurprised if they are but one of many different kind of Fae that form at Leyline Intersections.

Their very nature is what made the Benign Compact possible. Using the Shards of Caliburn and certain enchantments, it is possible to enable any particular Blendec to become aware of the formation of more of their kind, being wholly aware of the entirety of each being's essence. Enchanting other Fae this way would be impossible, as even if they form the same way they would be formed via different natural processes (hence the need for a Prop-Up 'King' rather than a Lord from another species of Fae) - they would be unable to distinguish the specific forces that culminate in the formation of a Blendec from other natural processes (though it should be noted, a similar compact might enable them to observe the formation of their own kind).

The reason Sathanas was able to suborn the compact was due to the wording. The Courts wanted a stable chain of succession for their puppet kings, so that the Blendecs would never have any 'grace periods' to cause trouble. Borrowing from Human practice, the status of Kingship transfers instantaneously from one person to another, in this case literally. Nobody was around to observe precisely how Sathanas managed to be designated Marduk's heir, but common speculation suggests that he likely compelled the False-King to do so. This is also why the second Compact failed, since Sathanas was by then already technically King of the Blendecs according to the first Benign Compact, which maintained a superior manifestation to the second one by dint of having been formed first. All the second Compact likely did was designate Ashinhil as Heir.

As for the World Tree - I am well aware. Sathanas suffered innumerable trials while they resided near Yggdrasil. The chaotic weft of spacetime there and the resulting anomalies were rather unkind to him during his stay, not to mention any treatment by the world tree itself. I will say Sathanas probably attempted some form of parlay with Yggdrasil, similarly to how the Courts have bargained with it in the past - but without anything like the Shards of Caliburn, any possible bargain was likely unfavorable. The bountiful supply of pitchblende in the area is likely one of the only reasons Sathanas survived.

Modified the history to comply with the absence of the Cauldron.

@Nevis The fabric of the RP is still being developed somewhat so time will not be an issue for the moment. Once we actually start I don't foresee requiring rapid fire posts as long as the story moves semi consistently so allowances can be made for those that have limited time available to them. Welcome aboard.

Would a dragon be an acceptable char? One that can glamour-spell himself a more humanoid appearance? Or a type of Fae that is essentially a dragon hybrid?

Glamouring and shapeshifting is not the same thing. The glamour is an illusion, it alters appearance but not size, weight, height or any other physical attribute and it can be penetrated. It is not real.

More importantly though I'm not a particular fan of dragons in a story unless they are meant to be the primary all encompassing focus such as in Eragon. I believe that they are too... mainstream I guess. They're essentially the mascot for the fantasy genre. Beyond that though they are big, and immensely powerful compared to the general power level of comparable characters. With regards to this setting if dragons make an appearance at all they will be nearly extinct, and intensely reclusive. Depending on the fae sub species I might consider some form of humaniod dragon hybrid but honestly its not something I'm particularly keen on, especially in this setting.

I wouldn't mind hopping on board if there is still room.

Always, welcome aboard.
