Okay, status updates are great. They can be funny, serious, thought provoking, and so forth. But can we please get a daily limit on it? I know it says "don't flood" right beneath it but when people are updating 10, 20, or more times a day it gets annoying as anything.

It's bad enough to see people posting about their so called manhood and such or worse, but the constant influx is really getting out of hand. Was one thing when it was one or two people but it's become an epidemic as of late. Can we please just get a limit added in?

It'll be noted and brought up with the other Mods. While we cannot set a limit for it, we can enforce the statement that the Status Update tab is for just that, Status Updates, and not conversation.

I wish you the best with this. I know people have been reminded by mods at least twice over the last 2 hours, to which they are replied to with sarcasm and even hostility by some just after. It is truly disheartening to see how much lack of respect the mods are getting with this by some. Hopefully one day Mahz can implement a limit of some sort because it only seems to be getting worse and worse.

Edit: And it is really bad when 1 person along accounts for nearly 20% of all status updates in the last 100 that can be accessed.

What if we got the ability to respond to statuses? That would be much more difficult and only add on to the long list of planned features, but it's something to think about.

How about removing the status panel from the front page, but still letting RPers post statuses? Or adding a hide/collapse button to the front page?

I believe that statuses are meant for an RP's friends to read as opposed to the entire forum. The genuine ones are "I'm busy/away" or "I've returned" messages. These messages would be useful only to the RP's circle of friends or those who are interested in finding out more about them (e.g. GM's).

If the forum was only a tight knit group of around 50 - 100 people, then yes, the status bar would be a very useful tool to keep everyone informed. But here, we're seeing statuses from many people we dont't know about. As long as it's there, it will be used as a chat panel.

Statuses are sometimes quirky and fun and of course RPers can put in whatever they want to amuse themselves or their buddies - that I understand. I also understand how some like to post meaningful or deep messages. Or you know, just want to be expressive. That's fine too, because I think we've all written poetry at some point.

But it seems some are just want to talk or posting something popular among the masses to gain likes and recognition. This could be the ulterior motive.

I mean, the simplest solution would be to simply ignore the panel. But I'm nosy and if it's there, I'll look at it. :P

So in summary...

Statuses are currently used for:
* "I'm back/away" messages
* Thoughts/feelings about me
* I want likes!
* I want chat!

Solutions:
* A hider for the status panel on the front page
* Remove the status panel completely, whilst keeping statuses on profile pages

Caveat:
* Mods can post statuses to announce things like the forum is overrun by furniture and Korean spambots.

this may sound stupid but we could have the hider for the main status bar (as silver said) and then maybe a non-hideable status bar for each rp? then important statuses in regards to post delays or holidays don't get buried in the waves of meaningless statuses that will most likely continue despite mods' warnings.

idk, s'just a thought

I don't think limiting statuses will do much, but I think there should be an option to hide the status bar, respond to statuses, and report them. This way, there would be less statuses made to respond to currently existing ones, people who "just don't want to deal with it" can do exactly that, and of course, a report option for anyone who is abusing it should exist.

That's just my thoughts though.

I don't think putting a cap on statuses would be beneficial to either side. I do think the idea of having the ability to reply to statuses, however, is a great suggestion. The fact that it's not an option surprises me. I mean, since we have statuses as a feature, and liking said statuses, why not go the extra mile with being able to respond to them?

Being able to reply would be great and such, I would love to see something like that. Having said that though, I do still firmly believe that a cap of some sort really needs to be put in place. People spam the bar like there is no tomorrow and it doesn't look to be going away. (Funny thing is, the bar is now getting timed when it comes to spam - after the mods are not longed in I am noticing.) - Or people mock the mods now that try to enforce the no spamming on the status updates. So I dunno, if people aren't going to be banned for spamming it, then it feels like a cap is the best option.
