Hi, so... um yeah hi. I'm Ailyn. I'm really bad at introductions, worse in real life though. I'm sure once I get to know everyone, it'll be easier for me to talk and all. Real name's Amanda and yes, I am the fiance that Shoryu talks about.

I've been role playing for a while now. I can't count exactly how long, but I'd put it at 15+ years. Started out with the infamous AIM chatrooms and migrated to Yahoo as time progressed. Quick, one liners were entertaining at the time and kept my middle school and early high school brain entertained. When both locations closed their public chat rooms (thanks, online pervs), a lot of my friends and I just moved on to the private chats before most of those were limited in some form or another. As I progressed through high school, I moved on to the forum based groups, with my favorite one being a .hack board where I worked my way to admin status....just as it died. *sigh*

I can thank the boards for at least one good thing, that's how Shoryu and I initially met. Its a long story, but a good one for another time. I haven't been terribly active on boards or chatrooms since high school thanks to good old fashioned adult responsibilities, but now that I'm nearing my 30's, I'd like to go back and do some of the fun things I used to do, albeit with a little less consistency xD
Thanks to some of the stuff that Shoryu and I write together, I'm pretty proficient in working with several characters at a time in a setting. I prefer the longer RP's (group or one-on-one) but I could go for a goofy, random one-liner RP again.

Other than my RP experience, I knit, crochet, sew, craft and cosplay. Well, a little less of the cosplay part in the last 5 years mainly due to a lack of time for construction *sigh*. C'est La Vie. Been a gamer since the family bought a PSX back when I was little and I've been watching anime and reading manga since I was in middle school. I couldn't give you an absolute favorite for either category just because there are so many that have aspects that you can't pit against one another. I will say that I'm a Final Fantasy fan like no other and the anime of Gangsta (along with its manga) captivates and perpetually frustrates me to no end.

If you asked me what I love, I'd give three things: Shoryu, cats and tacos. In.That.Order.

But yeah, I think that covers things for now. If you wanna ask me something, go for it. I can't guarantee I'll answer it, but I'll do what I can. Also, I'll have strange hours similar to Shoryu's thanks to my graveyard shift at FedEx (not to mention how I'll be in a zombie-like state once we start getting holiday shipments in a few weeks) so I'll probably lurk for the most part unless I find something I'm particular to.

I'm glad to be able to find some RP'ers are still wandering around these days! :)

Welcome to the guild. Though, obviously, we've already met before. It's good to have you here either way.

Since you went ahead and gave your real name, I might as well tell them mine as well (planned to anyway); it's James. Most people tend to call me Shoryu online though, but if you want to use that instead I won't have a problem with it.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy yourself here. We'll obviously be doing our own writing elsewhere, but if you find something that catches your attention, yeah, might as well jump into it. Actually could be interesting to get a chance to see you RP outside of my setting.

On another note, you actually did a good job with the introduction despite saying you're bad at it.

Going to make sure I point this out like I do for everyone. If you're talking to someone and you want them to get a notification from it, there are two buttons on the bottom right of each post on a thread you may click. I prefer @Mention (Which can be done manually by typing [@their name]) since to me at least, it's a lot cleaner, but quoting works as well.

My favourite anime and by now Shoryu knows how into the show I am lel is Oreimo (Ore no imouto ga konna ni kawaii wake ga nai). Which might soon be tied with Eromanga-sensei when it comes out, granted they do it right. To be honest I'm getting less into anime than before and I am starting to feel manga might be better for me (I mean either way I'd have to read, so why not read and get more material, right?)

Welcome to the guild! Nice to finally see the one Shoryu talks about, I was wondering when I'd get a chance to see you and say hello. I'm sure you'll like it here, friendly place just avoid certain people. I'm Shadow if you ever feel like talking.

Pretty much the whole reason I didn't tell them about the [@Mention] feature is I knew you'd do it. As for the whole manga/anime thing, yeah, the only problem with manga is that music so frequently creates atmosphere and makes moments memorable, and you can't carry that over to a novel or manga, but otherwise anime does tend to give you far less detail and material. As I've discussed with you, the ideal media to put my project into would probably be a visual novel series, since that would allow the best of all worlds, but I'd need more resources and research to pull that off than just a light novel series, so it's really uncertain for the time being.

Like I've told you in pm about the resources, it shouldn't be a huge thing. Light novels need much more than Visual Novels in terms of pictures. But other than that, I agree completely. Your story would fit VN much more than LN or manga. But your argument about anime and manga, I don't really agree. You don't need music to set a mood or atmosphere, and manga as well as light novels generally prove that point. As a matter of fact the web novel of Re:zero is said to be a lot more intense or shocking than the anime. Then again, it's said that season one of the anime is just starting the series off. lel

You could potentially just blame this on the fact that I have something of a connection to music, especially since I listen to it while writing and often use it to invoke a sort of meditative state. That sort of thing simply wouldn't cross over to a format that has no music, at least unless the person reading is able to pick up on that atmosphere I was trying to create.

Admittedly, by the standards of most people who RP I have very little actual experience with reading books. When I started text-based RPing, I might not have been new to storytelling but the entire concept of writing to role-play was completely foreign to me, and I was introduced to the concept on an advanced forum as well, so I think I did well for myself considering I never posted my role-plays like a beginner. Since I'm entirely self-taught, it did make things interesting.

Regardless, I understand how music is not an essential feature for everyone, but I definitely think it can bring something unique to the table. The main reason I could never see my story working as either an anime or a manga is because the narrative is far too detailed and complex.

It'd be even more unique to make a manga or light novel with music. Perhaps not physical books, but online stuff if you get what I mean. Either way, with a light novel, you can express stuff in a way that not only doesn't require music, but can even be better without it. As I've stated before, Re:zero does this perfectly.

As for the writing with music thing. I don't know, maybe I am weird on this one, but I cannot write with music. I can read, work, draw, etc, but I cannot write with music. Perhaps I could if I were physically writing like on paper, but not typing on a computer.

From the little I've read about Re:Zero from the summary I checked, it really didn't seem like something I would want to read, so I honestly can't give my opinion about how effectively they pull it off.

Whether or not the piece of writing could or couldn't give off a good atmosphere isn't so much the problem here, but more that I have a very specific atmosphere or feeling that I get while writing a certain scene and the piece of music does help facilitate that atmosphere. I sometimes wonder if the people reading my work will actually be able to get that same feeling without any music.

I just don't like needless torture porn stories (for those who don't know the reference, basically a story where the sole purpose of the narrative is to justify excessive physical torture of one or more characters, though there's usually a specific target), especially when the sole purpose of the work is to facilitate the existence of one. I'm not implying Re:Zero is this itself, but when someone describes a story as "main character torture, the series", it's a very good way to put me off.
