What about a guy getting trapped inside another person's computer and they have to basically fight off all the viruses and such to protect the place he is now living. Not sure how I got that from looking at an outlet, but either way it has to do with electricity so I guess that works.

Closest thing to that other than sword art online and Digimon is something called Zegapain.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zegapain

Apparently everyone lives as server data, but doesn't realize it? I never watched it.

I mean think of Ene from KagePro, she's literally inside the computer, not inside a game or program. She IS the program. Something like that. Maybe they can interact with the user of the computer as well. The living BonziBuddy mixed with an antivirus.

I'm not familiar with that, but reboot was a good show. Not an anime though.

The real irony is that @Ailyn Evensen informed me about the existence of Keijo!!!!!!!! only a day before it got brought up here.

@BrokenPromise
Yeah, Japan does have a tendency to accurately copy something instead of put their own personal interpretation of it into effect, although I've seen some instances of them going the opposite and making an interpretation of a pre-existing idea in a way that is very clearly anime, so it's sort of a mixed bag. Also, couldn't help but get entertained when you mentioned Kung Fury; now this thread has to live with the fact that its name was mentioned here.

@NekoMizu
Reboot is the first thing that comes to mind, but, yeah, not anime. Seriously though, with how computer/digital-obsessed Japan is, and the fact that sci-fi is becoming progressively more common with them, you'd think they would've done it by now.

I don't doubt that they've done it multiple times, really. As for the exact plot you're describing; I don't know.

Well, let's try to remember this is absurd anime ideas. If your idea has been done to 95% completion before, it probably isn't that absurd... I mean within the context of anime. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is an anime after all, so absurd things do happen. Still, finding an original idea is pretty challenging!

Okay, how about an anime where the characters are all girls but, BUT... they are ugly. And by ugly I don't mean that they are ugly, just that they have non-standard body types. Like maybe one girl would be flat chested but have a big butt. Another one might have a skinny neck and buck teeth, etc. They meet up at a local laundromat and talk frequently about their boy woes and how they are picked on by their friends and co-workers. The guy who runs the laundromat is a foriener, so the girls take a shining to him and visa versa. I'm not sure if it's magical or mechanical, but each girl eventually gets awashing machine or dryer that does something strange when you climb inside it. One has the power to turn into vehicles, another one can become a portal to any other place with a round opening (other washer/dryer, sewer drain, bucket of water) etc. They are all color coded like power rangers. The villains are all super attractive yet vain characters who view beauty as the single most important attribute one can possess.

Come on, come all. Join in on the fun of coming up with and discussion of absurd anime ideas. "But proto, anime's done it all. But proto" No they haven't. They may have taken most of the glory, but there are some ideas that they (may have done, but not a whole anime dedicated to it) haven't done these at the very least:
Jenga!
Draughts/checkers (I'm sure many similar things have been done, but I have yet to see an anime dedicated to it)

Now the latter isn't really absurd, but I still for some reason have never seen it done. Which is sad. Jenga, though. I seriously want that.

Personally, I would like to see an anime based on fighting games (e.g. Street Fighter, Tekken, Guilty Gear...not counting Smash, they are their own thing) and the community that surrounds it. I would say video game community overall, but there's something about fighting games, something about about going 1 v 1 that can tell a lot about the players in terms of skill and personality. It would touch on gaming techniques, such as reaction speeds, stick+button inputs, and adapting to different play styles depending on character used. The FGC has its share of drama, mostly due to clashing egos, trash talking, and money/grudge matches.

So here's a story: A highschool student decides to pick up fighting games after his best friend, a legendary player, is killed in a car accident. He quickly realizes that the fighting game community (FGC) is cruel and unforgiving, and only the best are given a shred of respect and support as well as sponsoring from major entertainment companies. He makes new acquaintances, all who knew his late best friend. After discovering he has a reaction speed much higher than the average human, which is commonly called "The Edge," they decide to train him. The learning curve is steep, but he gradually improves through practice, suffering countless losses, placing top 8 in tournaments, and endless inspiration from the memory of his dead friend. Then blah blah blah, he gets gud, beats the most skilled players, thanks to his "Edge," and barely manages to snag the World Championship after a close match up against another player with the same ability.

Shit, did I just type all that?

That or a bunch of cute girls eating sweets or just goofing off most of the time until they feel like playing fighting games.

That's generally how it is with anime with a setting about people doing a certain type of hobby/job. K-On!, that one about game production (New game? I think so), etc.

I had a great idea a while back that featured my homie @Ryoryoryoken in the spotlight as the protagonist. It was basically about this guy with the superpower of being able to fix any problem by sleeping. That's fucking right. Giant monsters attack the city? Shit, he goes to sleep, wakes up, BAM. Problem fucking gone. The catch is he's an insomniac, so he never knows when he is able to fall asleep again.

The general premise would be this every single episode:

1. General slur of the week, minor problems begin piling up such as 'I have a headache' 'My car broke down' and other shit that you shouldn't waste a superpower on.
2. After a few of these problems he decides to take a nap to fix his problems.
3. Wakes up, and not a second later the entire city somehow turns to shit, aliens invade, 10 earthquakes hit at once, make it as fucking stupid and crazy as you want.
4. Insomnia, so the guy can't sleep and fix the problem.
5. The rest of the episode would be about how he traverses the problems and tries to save people somehow (because he's just a regular dude, besides his power of sleeping) and tries to get himself to sleep.
6. The ending would be him sleeping, obviously, and shit was well again.

It's probably a very shitty show, but I came up with it so it's the best fucking thing to me.

I am not a fan of having the problems go away in an episode. I'd prefer a more arc-based series, though there's not much you can do at one cycle with something like that. They could also make the character have opposite effects from normal people with sleep things. Basically whatever makes someone more awake, makes him more tired, and whatever makes normal people tired, he gets hyper from it. I feel that could add onto it. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, by the way. I didn't notice there was a post.

@NekoMizu I mean, I want an OPM clone, because OPM is the funniest show out there. So there should be continuity and persistence, but every episode would be something new. So it's like a typical 'watch it before you go to school' show.

Pretty sure mob psycho 100 is a OPM clone. Haven't seen it, but I've seen reviews saying it was OPM with Ness as Saitama. Other than that, they're making season 2 of OPM I'm pretty sure.
