"It's a common practice indeed." Yasmin affirmed to the rest of her team. "They'll want to find the rising stars quickly so they can pour their effort into the better teams. That's why we need to make a good first impression, if we're called to do battle." Yasmin adjusted her hair slightly as she ate, her eyes darting around the room occasionally, sizing up the other teams, a devious smile playing on her lips.
"Man, first day and we're already being evaluated, doesn't anyone take things easy?" Cedar mumbled with a certain sense of worry, munching on another mouthful of food.

@Shadow Daedalus@Eklispe
"Myeh myeh myeh, excuses excuses." Lynn flapped her hand in an imitation of a mouth to mock them before she returned to pouting. "Don't get me wrong, I AM a damn pretty face but i'd like to at least not sleep through breakfast and have my tummy rumbling all day, you know?" She stabbed a forkful of food and ate it before she answered their question. "Well, my folks are traders. We have a house boat, sail between the kingdoms to sell goods back and forth. My folks wanted me to be able to fight back if we ever get attacked by pirates, or that Captain Tsunami guy... so they trained me with a sword and, when I started hearing about hunters from the mainland... iiiiii may have begged them to let me become a huntress." She tapped her fingers together in slight embarrassment.

Julio started to eat his salad, much like he ate the night before, with some meat on the side. He occasionally looked up to his teammates. "We were already evaluated. You know, the test." He pointed out. "They didn't kick out any students, sure, but the ones who stood out the most must've made a mark on their minds." He was pretty sure they knew what had happened inside the Gauntlet. There's a reason why it's a test. He looked towards Cedar, "Guess when you're a huntsman or a huntress, there's no rest when you're on a mission." Okay, he sounded like his father on that one. Dang, he hated sounding like him. But it was true. Well, he can't take it back now.

"I thought that too, about the exam, but see...", he leaned in a bit closer as he began to speak in a more knowing tone,

"Being able to win matches in a one on one scenario carries something else with it. As hunters we are expected to fight against Grimm threats as teams, but in a one on one match, the place those kinds of fighters shine most, is the Vytal Festival", he was making a fair point. The Vytal Festival was usually just that, duels, and they became one on one towards the finals too.

"In any case, I'm certain I have a good chance", as he claimed this, it would come to mind what his semblance was, which was creating a combat-ready copy of himself. A strong semblance for fighting against one or even two opponents. Regardless, breakfast was nearing it's end.

"Well, it's almost time for class right? Maybe we should go a little early... I still don't know my way around this place", he suggested.

Venator rolled his eyes at Azura's exclamations about zombies, but smiled a little at Lynn's reason for becoming a huntress. "That's a fair enough reason. It's kinda cute to be honest, You want to be a hero and help your family." He swallowed another mouthful of food, chased down by a large swig of coffee before he leaned back in his chair and looked over at Azura. "And to answer your question, I have two answers, although I'm more inclined to extravagant lies. Do you want the nice answer, or the real one?". His golden eyes looked straight at her, more with a look of expectant boredom than one of hostility.

"Awww... alright, guess i'll let you off easy for this morning then." Lynn snickered with a wily flick of her eyebrows at him, having settled down considerably now she was actually with her group. "What about you huh, Ven? I mean, pardon me for saying but, from what you usually wear? I would've assumed you were more suited for Atlas than this place."

At the question, Terra also seemed to perk up with interest at the answer as well.

@Sho Minazuki@Polaris North
"We have another 7 minutes or so, I believe." Yasmin idly checked her scroll for the time. "Mhm, 7 minutes... we could go early if we really want good seats." Yasmin fixed Asher with a coy smile. "Perhaps someone wants to sit close to the teacher to make a good first impression?" she joked.

"Well, i'm gonna get some quick seconds." Cedar smiled and rose from his seat, taking his tray over to the racks on the far end of the serving line, all the trays and plates were stored there to be cleaned up later.

As Cedar walked toward the far end of the dining hall, he passed by the jagged haired blonde boy who'd come first in the entrance exam. As he passed him by, something happened as all of a sudden Cedar tripped over and fell forward, landing head first in the remains of his own breakfast, a loud thud resounding as he hit the floor. A few of the students turned to the noise and laughed at his misfortune as Cedar rose his head slowly, his ears folded in shame.

"Watch where you're walking, mutt." The blonde haired boy taunted as he passed him by.

"The Vytal Festival..." Julio never thought about the competition at all. He was really fixated on becoming a huntsman and battling the Grimm that it completely slipped his mind. Although it obviously did leave a mark on Asher's memory since he seems pretty confident that he'd do well in it. Well, at least Julio could rest knowing that someone had been training for the Vytal Festival.

He looked towards Yasmin and let a lazy smile take its place on his face. Although he didn't make any comment about it, waiting for Asher's reaction to the joke. It was then that Cedar stood up and excused himself to get seconds. Julio nodded and watched his fellow faunus walk off and then leaned back into his chair. He looked finished with the meal and was ready to get going any time.

That was when he heard a loud thud and he quickly turned his head towards where it came from. He saw Cedar, on the ground with his face on the food he was carrying earlier, and the blonde man that finished first before. The others were laughing. Julio was quick to come into a conclusion that the blonde man was that kind of human that looked down on the faunus. Julio was out of his seat and walked towards Cedar in a flash. Sending a well-concealed glare at the blonde male, he extended his hand to Cedar, ignoring all the laughter. "Come on Cedar. Get up."

Azura looked puzzeled by Venator's question. "Hm? why can't I have both answers?" She appeared to be geniuenly puzzeled by this, head tilted, eyes staring curiously. Perhaps she didn't understand his reasons but it seemed simple to her. So puzzled was she in fact, that she entirely missed the commotion made over the fanus boy.

"Honestly I just don't wanna get lost", he responded as he got up. Good seats to him were in the far back too, where he can occasionally just do as he pleased. Cedar was off to get some seconds so looks like they were going to stay here for a little longer, but he had little else to talk about.

As he was walking he spotted Cedar on his way back with a plate of food. He saw everything, the tripping move, the taunt, and the fall. And the guy who did it, with little hesitation he stood square in his way,

"Clean it up", he said clearly, his scowl deepening. His hands slowly slipped out of their pockets as he made himself prepared. Even if this burly kid was bigger than him, it wasn't anything new. Unfortunately he couldn't stand this kind of thing, he could see Julio going over to help Cedar as the laughter in the cafeteria silenced as he confronted the blonde kid.

"Are you deaf? Clean it up", he repeated.

Venator Aurea
Lustre Academy, Dining Hall

Venator fought the urge to roll his eyes at Azura's comment, but it was a losing battle. She was very friendly, but she was apparently a little slow on the uptake. He deigned to reply and instead finished off the last of his meal. It was then that the faunus boy from the other team, Cedar if memory served him, was suddenly knocked to the ground and Venator let out a low, angered growl. He held a scathing glare for a moment before he looked away. His eyes settled back on his purple-haired team mate, and not-quite-subordinate. "That would make sense, Lynn, considering that's where I'm from. I never really planned to come to Vault, but that's how the dice fell. As I said to Azura, There's two versions of this story. The nice one, and the real one. The nice one is that I came to Lustre to become a successful Hunter and prove that we Faunus are more than just animals..." He shot a glare back across the room. "That we deserve to be treated fairly."

He drained the rest of his coffee and placed the cup on the table with a soft click. "The real story? It was this or prison. And seeing as I'm sitting right here, It's obvious what I chose." He checked his scroll quickly, checking what class was next. "We should probably get going soon. We've got Lariet for Combat Training, and I really don't want to have to fight her... again." He was entirely serious as he said this. He could still feel the bruises from last time.

"Wow... never realized it was so serious with you." Lynn was clearly taken aback for a moment at his explanation, not that she had a problem but, it clearly caught her off guard. Terra too peeked from under his straw hat at Ven's explanation. Their eyes soon shifted to the commotion taking place nearby as the two students squared off, the intensity radiating off of them. "Yeah, we should probably go before they start fighting... I hear food fights with hunters get real messy real quick." Lynn agreed and quickly made moves to leave, putting her tray and plate with the others and headed for the door, Terra in tow.

@Sho Minazuki@Polaris North

"Thanks Julio..." Cedar got back to his feet and rubbed at his face with a napkin as he saw the commotion going on... he felt moved by how Sho was standing up for him and how Julio was there to help him up, sharing a slight smile on his face.

"Why? Because your friend is a clumsy mutt who fell over his own feet?" the jagged haired blonde retorted, looking at Sho with an increasingly angry glare, his fingers clenching into knuckles and his breath becoming irritated snorts. He looked about ready to throw a punch right at him... when something intervened.

"Terrance, now now." The grey haired boy stepped in between the both of them, one Silas Sleet to be exact, intent on settling this dispute between them as his mere intervening seemed to make Terrance back down slightly, before he turned his head toward Sho. "There's no need to dispute over a simple accident, is there? Not right before combat class anyway, surely."

Julio nodded as Cedar thanked him for the help. He pulled the other faunus up so that he was now standing up. He then turned his head towards Asher, who was confronting the blonde man. The two looked ready to throw punches at each other and he mentally prepared himself to jump in and intervene. As much as he wanted Asher to beat the guy up, it was still against the rules. And there was the fact that the blonde man was taller and bulkier than Asher.

It was then that someone intervened. Silas, he remembered the grey haired boy's name was, the leader of STAR. Terrance backed down when Silas had stepped in to settle the dispute. The monkey faunus relaxed as Silas seems to have control over Terrance so the latter probably won't attack now.

"Accident or no, it's better to not resort to violence." Julio agreed on Silas on that part. It being an accident? Not really. "Besides, you might face off in combat training... which would start in a few minutes. So let's go before the professor chews our ears out for being late." He pointed out, gesturing for Cedar to move as well, and made his way towards where Yasmin and the table was and then picked his cap up and fastened it on his head. He looked back at the Asher and Cedar to see if they would follow.

"Haaaah? I'm not about to use a proper class as an excuse to teach some child some respect", it was a common thing and something he almost expected, though somewhat unexpected to others, he seemed to be a code of some kind, still, a fight here would not be best, and as much as he relished the idea of beating his sorry ass at combat class, that wasn't what classes were for. He turned to Silas, the leader as it seems of this blonde haired twat.

"Tell you what, I'll drop this whole affair if you make him clean that mess up. I'm sure none of us want a fight here, but my request is simple... You keep him in line, or I'll gladly do it in your place", his tone was quieter, but still intense as he referred to Silas. This was a matter of discipline, and respect. His request was a test of this person's power and integrity as an authority. Asher wasn't an experienced leader himself, but he chose to do one thing above all else, and do what he thinks is right.

Somehow all of food on Azura's plate was gone by the time Ven had finished talking. She nodded thoughtfully to his response, "Cool, I wonder why you were gonna go to jail. Protesting? Vandalism or maybe even mur-" her speculating was cut off by Ven announcing they had combat class next. Azura blanced momentarily, "Eh, combat class. I suppose we should get going anyway." She said with disinterest and moved to put her food away and follow after Lynn. At Terra's comment she looked at the squabble with interest for a moment then shrugged, seemingly not interested in watching or getting caught up in whatever it was.

Venator Aurea
Lustre Academy, Dining Hall
@Polaris North@CadenGallic@Sho Minazuki

As the rest of his team filed out of the dining hall, Venator stopped near the scene brewing between the Captain of Team JAYC and the Maul-wielding blond of Team STAR. He watched from a short enough distance to see everything, but far enough to not draw attention, as Asher practically threatened the blond's leader with a cold look over the whole scene until he turned his eyes to the two Faunus from JAYC as they stepped away from the potential fight. With smooth steps, Venator drew closer to them and placed his hand on the Fox boy's shoulder. He gave the monkey a quick nod and small smile. His hand slipped off of Cedar's shoulder as he looked between the two boys before he extended his hand to them. "Venator, Team Valentine. I saw what happened."

His wolf ears twitched a little and He looked over his shoulder at the three boys at a stand-off, his eyes narrowing. "We should let the faculty deal with this, instead of letting this get out of hand, but Silas might need some help to calm them down before they get here." He sighed quietly and turned back to the two faunus boys. "Can one of you two find a teacher? I'll deal with those two."

With that, he turned back to the arguing teens and growled lowly to himself before he walked between them and put his hands up to both of them. "Guys, chill for a second. Silas has a point, to a degree. Save it for the arena, where you settle this without dragging anyone else into it." He looked between the two, his eyes sharp and cold but not provokingly so.

Lynn looked back as she saw Azura still there and waved her over with haste to make tracks with the both of them for next class.

@Polaris North@Shadow Daedalus@Sho Minazuki
"Um, thank you?" Cedar shook his hand in return, a little mystified someone else was getting involved... but the sympathy on display was touching, so he smiled back at Ven. Yasmin nodded at Ven's request.
"I'll get someone, just give me five." She dashed from the room, blowing past Azura and Lynn as she was off to find someone to amend the situation.

"Push off." Terrance snorted at Sho's further remarks, his lip turning up into an increasing scowl of irritation, his eyes growing narrower as this little speck of a human being was causing him so much bother.

"Exactly. It's nice to see someone else knows his sensibilities." Silas looked to Ven with a keen smile and a somewhat thankful look someone else was assisting in this situation. "This was a simple accident and some cross words, there's no need to fight here when it can simply be done in the arena in five minutes, if we both still feel so sore about it... not to mention the numbers are somewhat against you, if you don't mind me saying." Silas pointed out, using the increasing sympathy to his advantage to diffuse this situation.

"Accident? From what I saw, not likely." Once he was sure the two of them weren't going to go for each other's throats, Venator dropped his arms and turned to Silas with a hard look. "While I agree with you that they shouldn't fight here, I also agree with Asher. It's your lack of discipline that lead to this, which at best was lapse of judgement or at worst a poor standard for leadership. If you can't get your team under control, I don't doubt something like this will happen again, and I know where I'll be standing when it does." As he spoke, he took a slight step closer to Asher, his body language confirming his words. As much as he'd like to play peacekeeper, Venator knew where he stood if he had to pick a side. "Look, I'd prefer to settle this quickly. We say our piece, get it over with. Blondy other there agrees to be less of an asshole, we all drop the issue. Deal?"

Asher Brandt

Lustre Academy - Morning
@CadenGallic@Polaris North@Shadow Daedalus

It became increasingly clear to Asher that this meathead wasn't used to being confronted, meaning, it would be easy to get under his skin. He relished the thought of crushing his confidence in even a fist fight, these types weren't difficult to read after all... But that was before. He wasn't some infamous troublemaker anymore, he was a member of the Brandt family, when he accepted their offer he told himself he'd change. In other words, there was something on the line here for him, so he shouldn't carelessly start a fight. Still despite that, he wasn't going to stand by and watch things unfold like a good boy, he was never such anyways.

The faunus named Venator was stepping in too now, to be honest he didn't like the look of this. One false move, this could just become an all-out brawl instead of just between two people with a disagreement. His anger had simmered, but it was still softly steaming, who was this Terrance thinking he could get away with actions and words like that, his parents must be sorely disappointed, or were trash themselves too.

"I can settle for that, a little manual labor would give this dumb oaf some character, but an apology to Cedar would do too. I suggest he grow a brain and realize it isn't little schoolies anymore. It's not so 'fun' if someone stands up to you huh? I guess you had to learn that at an embarrassingly late point in your life", his words were aimed at Terrance, he wasn't about to be unreasonable though, but he still wanted to speak his mind. Did this kid come from some rich family? He almost felt exactly like the big dumb jocks in those school dramas one of his sisters always watched, he almost didn't believe he'd actually meet one.

Julio looked towards the wolf faunus as he spoke, introducing himself as Venator of Team Valentine. He then requested for one of them to go and get a teacher, to hopefully settle this down. The monkey faunus had other things in mind though - like how time was ticking and that they would surely be late for the first day of class. He gave Venator a smile though and then the wolf faunus headed towards the scene to act as a mediator.

And it looked like it was going well. Or at least, as well as it could go. It didn't look like the two would go for each other's blood anymore, so that was good. Julio placed his hands in his pockets as he waited for things to blow over. Although he was quite happy, to tell the truth. These people were standing up for the injustice that was shown. And Asher, hot-blooded as he is, seems to be a good leader. Despite this drama brewing in the dining hall, it was giving him a chance to assess characters.

Silas seemed reasonable, but sticks to his team, just like how he was pushing that what happened was an accident. Terrance, well, he didn't have much to say about the guy. He seemed arrogant at the first meeting, but didn't otherwise care about him being a faunus so he guessed he just wanted to bully someone, make someone feel that they're under him. Then there was Venator, from what he could see right now, he seemed sensible and wanted to avoid violence. Then again, everyone might have wanted to avoid it.

He turned his head towards Cedar and said, "We're really going to be dead when we enter class." There was a lopsided grin on his face as he said this.

"My lack of discipline?" Silas turned to Ven and frowned as the situation turned upon them. "I don't control what Terrance does, nor if your friend is an clumsy fool who tripped over his own feet. You're not giving us much incentive to cave with all these insults, either, very rude." Terrance's teeth grit behind him and he seemed to be winding up a punch, though he was holding his fist aimed at his hand.

"ENOUGH!" A loud voice barked suddenly as from the canteen doorway, Yasmin had returned and had brought Miss Lariet with her. She looked as she did yesterday, her strawberry blonde curls hanging from her head and her clothing similarly floral, but you could tell she was cross from how her face was scrunched up. Though really, it looked more like a cute pout than it was intimidating as she stepped inbetween both groups and scowled at them both. "All of you, to class, right now. If you want to fight, do it in the ring. I'll have no more of this."
Terrance and Silas were both taken aback, but both clearly had the brains to know when to back down, as they nodded silently and quickly made tracks to go to class.
"Thanks guys." Cedar piped up as the crowds finally began to disperse and he popped up next to Ven and Asher.

Things were taking a turn for the worse and Julio wasn't sure whether or not he would fight when things came to that. However, a voice boomed out that told them to stop. Julio turned to the voice to see Miss Lariet and Yasmin standing by the doorway. Oh good, and he had to admit, Yasmin was fast. He kept silent as the teacher walked towards the group and told them to get to class. Despite her being all cute-looking and stuff, Julio knew not to cross her. She was a teacher for a reason, despite that kind of appearance.

The crowds began to disperse and Julio made his way towards Yasmin. "Good job in getting the teacher that quickly. I think if you arrived a second later, we'd have a fight on our hands." He pointed out before looking towards the rest of the team and waited for them before going to class as ordered. Julio seemed to be quick to put the incident behind him, but it was burnt in his mind. He knew now who the people he needed to avoid were. He didn't think he would get along with them.
