I could like, just take Kain or something instead, if those were your two strongest choices. To round out the trio.

They're some of my strongest choices -- by no means the only ones, though Kain being involved is interesting too.

Anyway, I don't want to hold you up from getting this going, but a few things have been popping up on my end and I had to do something of an all-nighter thanks to it. With this in mind, perhaps you two should start without me? Perhaps I could get involved eventually, but I don't want the fact that I'm not certain yet to hold you up if you're gearing to go.

Yes and no. I'm Australian, so I had the Dark Aeons in my PS2 game by default. I've encountered them a bit, but - as I insinuated in a previous post - I haven't had enough time - starting from the PS2 generation - to go into my RPGs with the same level of extensiveness I used to in the old PSX days.

Zanmato is indeed overkill, but a nice card to have up your sleeve.

Persona 5 is the primary game you mentioned there that has my interest, maybe Dragon's Quest but I never even got around to really playing the PS2 Dragon's Quest game I bought (for the aforementioned reason concerning my schedule since the PS2 generation started). I admittedly play fighting games more often than JRPGs/JTRPGs, but those are all equal as my personal favourite video game genres.

Characters I KNOW I'm going to use are Ritz and Marche... I'm considering Bartz/Gilgamesh for some comedy. FFV is my second favorite Final Fantasy, so might get some pre-death Galuf up in here to kick ass.

As for the sheets, I guess just the basics? If we need history on the characters or a personality check, there's a wiki for that. So we don't need those. I suppose it'll be a good idea to have a decently detailed abilities tab. The most important thing the CS's are probably there to explain is combat potential. This is especially necessary for characters whose games had Class Systems; I don't plan for Marche to have a wide range of abilities, a lot less than Ritz, actually. While he's pure-physical she'll have some minor magical ability on top of her fencing abilities.

I had to fix a bit of the wording in that quote of mine you put up, since it was pretty badly written in my eyes and left the wrong impression.

My 'inner self' demands I 100% most games that I plan, when I actually have time to do so that is, so if I end up getting time to play it extensively I will do it. I don't doubt my ability to do it, since I'm very proficient at all forms of strategy and meta-gaming, but ultimately it all comes down to time.

I've played a small portion of Persona 3 and know most of its spoilers, I know most of the spoilers of Persona 4. I've played Persona 4 Arena/Persona 4 Arena Ultimax too. I haven't fought the Demi-Fiend as of yet, but I've also been planning on picking up SMT: Nocturne at some point. I'm not a huge fan of the franchise outside of Persona due to thinking the whole 'Devil is good, God is bad' anti-clichΓ© is overdone and sort of nonsensical, but a few of the games still have my interest and I know a considerable amount of spoilers for the SMT franchise games I haven't played.

On my end, I'm actually a very high level fighting game player -- some people think I'm pretty much as good as they can get when it comes to Soul Calibur V (the only 3D fighting game I particularly have respect for, and one of the best fighting games ever made in my eyes -- the only fighting game I've ever slightly taken seriously online actually) and several other games, despite the fact that I'm more or less a 'casual' player. I've been a long-standing Soul series fan and I've played them all basically, but SCV is where they perfected it in my eyes, and I've made a damn lot of my 'Guardian Ascension' characters (and even some Dissidia characters) on the character creation. I like the other games, but they're not on par with it. Tekken and similar franchises to it are okay -- I'm really not a fan of the way they play from a balance/tactical perspective but I enjoy the fluidity of some of them - Virtua Fighter in particular, which I use the most technical character (Akira) in - due to being a martial arts fan.

I'm not too much of a fan of the Marvel vs. Capcom series, honestly - from a competitive/technical perspective anyway - but I do enjoy using Donmaru and Trish (among a few other characters that're secondary to those two). I'm actually a 2D fighting game player at heart, and I've played a fucking tonne of them, a lot of which never even came outside of Japan. I won't list them all here, but I'm planning to include them in my bio one day. Overall though, I play them all at a high level even when I first start out. I can beat tournament players at fighting games despite having no interest in competing, and I actually teach people how to play fighting games sometimes as a hobby (some people think I should do it for money). Dissidia caught my interest because it mixes fighting games and JRPGs, so that's sort of perfect for me. I still play a lot of fighting games (among other genres) on my PS2/PS3/PS4.

Now, onto the main subject:

Exdeath was another possibility for me to bring over at some point. Honestly, if I decide to join this I could actually bring over and multitask a lot of characters at once, depending on how large you'd like this cast to be at a single point in time. I just need to make sure the people I bring over are ones I like, such as the examples I've listed so far.

Not to play GM, but here's my recommendation for character sheets:

  • Basic information which should include the following: 'Name' (no shit Sherlock), 'World' (which FF game), 'Alignment' (Cosmos/Chaos), and possibly 'Class' (example: The Emperor is referred to as 'Trap Master' in Dissidia, so for Ritz you could use 'Magic Fencer').
  • Posted image of the character, preferably one from an official Final Fantasy game instead of fanart.
  • A link to the character's Final Fantasy wiki page, and specifically their Dissidia entry page if they've been in the series.
  • For characters who aren't from Dissidia, a list of their skills resembling those in Dissidia (the wiki pages include this for Dissidia characters already).

With that said, despite my workload I'm thinking about doing this -- I really am. I just don't want to commit to it and then - boom - my workload gets worse.

If you have time, I'll post up a complete character sheet - the one that was coming to mind even as I posted the recommendation just then - in the next half an hour or so. I'll either edit it into the post I'm doing now, or I'll reply to your response. I feel like I'm pretty good at making nicely formatted character sheets. You're on the right track though.

Here's what I've got in my head... I'm going to go the whole way and use a full example instead of just a template.

This will be using The Emperor as its basis, so here you go:

If we included the 'Summon' category, I figured he'd have one but I wasn't sure what was most fitting off the top of my head. Also, just for the record -- yes, this guy is the highest priority I'd bring over into the role-play, with Golbez being close behind him alongside (I think) a few other people. I'd put Golbez a lot higher on my priority than Exdeath though, because I really like playing 'Anti-Villain' and 'Well-Intentioned Extremist' characters. I could picture myself playing Jecht too, if someone decided to bring in Tidus. Anyway, I guess you can think of this as my first character registration, except I'm still working out the 'Summon' possibility.

Summons are pretty recurrent in Final Fantasy, so I figured it'd make sense for them to appear. I just wasn't sure if they'd be specific to certain characters and if only certain characters would have them. Technically, Yuna has a few of them in Duodecim as part of her move list, but this doesn't stop other characters from being able to use them in the games (especially the new one).

I imagined either a list of abilities or skills similar to the Dissidia command lists, or - if that's too much work for people - a summary of their battle style with their weapon and the talents they possess with magic. Basically, enough information to make a decent gauge between them and the characters who are native to the Dissidia series, for balancing purposes.

On the summons, just put in what you think would makes sense when the time comes. On the abilities, I wouldn't really see the need for a command list? the latter option seems more sensible considering this is a role-play, rather than any type of "work". I mean, we're not literally role-playing the game itself, we're doing a role-play that follows the story bits of the game, except with any FF characters we choose.

After all, there's a pretty wide-berth between story and game-play.

I agree with you.

It's just common procedure - in good battle-orientated role-play - for all participants to include something of a list or description of what the characters can do in order to prevent anyone from cheating or letting things get too out of hand. I figured if the Dissidia characters were limited to their in-game skills, the outsiders should be limited to something similar. So long as there's no problem with me - for example - pulling out abilities with The Emperor that he never uses in Dissidia, there won't be a problem with not including a command list.

Sure, absolutely. I figure since there would only (presumably) be the three of us, we'd just talk things out if things got out of hand. It wouldn't be like a massive scale role-play where things are happening that you couldn't keep track of because there's so many people.

So, then if there's no problem, the abilities tab would just become a general tab for a character's battle style, magic, summon, etc. Pretty much everything pertaining to what they can do combat wise. We'd pretty much leave it up to ourselves, and if you're worried about balance, talk about it if we see something of note. Also, in Dissidia there's a lot of team-ups with heroes and villains, so that would even it out.

Generally speaking, collaboration over the OOC is the best way to work this sort of thing out -- having those common procedures I mentioned earlier is mostly just a sort of groundwork that can be used as the basis for such discussion, and also a safety net to prevent bad players from trying to break the rules, but I think you two are mature enough role-players that we won't need to worry about that. Also, since all of us are presumably using heroes and villains at the same time, we're on both sides so there's no reason we'd be biased and cheat.

Abilities can be pretty much a summary explaining the characters fighting style, emphasizing the sort of way they use their weapon, their proficiencies in certain types of magic, et cetera. Unless you want to move the 'Summon' category into it, there's probably no need to include summoning in that description since I imagine we'd only be using summons from the Final Fantasy series. With this in mind, I think the 'Summon' category should include a link to the Final Fantasy wiki as well -- specifically, if I listed 'Diablos' as the familiar for The Emperor then that summon's name would be a clickable link that leads to the summon's page on the wiki.

Believe it or not, I already have a pretty nasty strategy in mind for team battles that The Emperor takes part in, so I'm pretty much contemplating these sorts of situations even as we discuss this. It should be pretty interesting to see the Cosmos warriors try to get out of it.

So, uh.... I could make this long-winded and reply to everything above, but I'm just gonna say what I think is important.

As far as abilities go, as long as we make sure everything is figured out in character sheets before the characters are used, we're good. That way there are no surprises; It's highly possible characters could gain some nostalgic skills throughout the game with everyone's approval; A good example for me to for Ritz and Marche to gain more job-related skills; Because having them all at the start would give insane versatility. But I never WANT them all, anyways. It's just a temporary limit, I guess? We're all (I assume we are at least) adults here; So we shouldn't have a problem talking out our problems; Especially since, like was said above, we're all playing villains and heroes; Therefor being bias in a fight has no real purpose. Plus, since we're 'adults', I expect us to not do that anyways.

Based off of Shoryu's template, I'm going to go ahead and work on my characters a bit. As far as summons go, as long as they don't end up having the ability to be abused to all hell, I think they'll be fine. I mean, even Marche has specific summoning despite not even being a mage; He has the Human Totema. Which could serve as a pretty badass finisher, or mook nuking attack if the opportunity comes up. I don't see every character having summons though; Ritz can't use Totema like Marche can, and she's not invested in the Summoner Job Class as far as I'm concerned, so she'll be a bit more limited in that regard; But she has magic to make up for it.

I might consider using Tidus, depending on the rest of my roster. If you could play Ex Death that'd be pretty cool if I brought in Galuf. The weird thing about the FFV cast is they all fight similarly to Bartz anyways, again, due to the job system in their game: So I'll see what end's up happening. I'm focusing on my FF:TA characters, for now. As far as villains go? Kefka's on the top of my list; Psychotic bastards are my favorite.

Yeah, I sorta should've told you that once I'm invested in something I can really dish out the contributions quickly. I'm in agreement with you about us being adult enough to not cheat, and letting bias get in the way would be ridiculous when we're fighting against ourselves, so when I was talking about preventing things from getting out of hand I was actually talking about doing it accidentally (due to not having the information available), but naturally we can use the OOC for that.

I agree that learning your jobs progressively is a good idea. Granted, in the lore of Dissidia the characters have been significantly empowered by Cosmos and Chaos, but this doesn't mean you need to have learned all your jobs as a result of it -- those jobs could simply be more powerful than usual. Summons could be around as powerful as they are in the new Dissidia game and in Final Fantasy X, or we could make them just a single cast spell that shows up and does something then pisses off. Either way - as I mentioned earlier - since the Cosmos/Chaos warriors are actually significantly empowered in the Dissidia universe compared to their original worlds, so it's probably safe to assume they could defeat summons a lot easier than the team did in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. On the subject of mooks, I'm thinking The Emperor should have the power to create them (given his canonical abilities of summoning demons from Hell).

Also, assume that if Gohan doesn't bring in Cecil and Golbez that I will eventually, since - like I said - I'm a fan of them. If you really want to use Cecil I could probably run with Kain instead, but since I usually relate the Cecil/Rosa relationship to my relationship with Ailyn (my fiancΓ© - who is also on this site, and is a huge Final Fantasy fan but doesn't like doing 'arena' role-play that much so might not be into this particular role-play - just so you know, Gohan), I relate to him more now than I do to Kain (there's a few other reasons). If Zemus had made more of an appearance in the game I could've tossed him in too. I've pretty much decided to get into this now, but here's hoping that my workload in the next coming months (it's gonna be hectic) doesn't cause us issues. I might end up bringing over Warrior of Light and Garland, but I'm still considering later games too -- I actually sort of really want to use Kuja, and possibly even Caius Ballad, though some of this depends on who you guys decide on.

Kefka's all yours, Raddum. I don't mind the psychotic 'Nietzsche Wannabe' archetype of villains - I do have some in my story actually - but they're usually not my priority roles since I lean towards the more visionary or sympathetic villains. On the other hand, if you really want to bring in Galuf at some point then I could definitely work with Exdeath since my own story does have characters who want to 'return the world to nothingness'. I might leave Jecht's appearing entirely up to whether or not we get Tidus.

'Ivalice'? Is this game actually linked to the same Ivalice as FFXII, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy Tactics, or is it a different Ivalice? Vayne is another possible character I could've run with, which is one of the reasons why I'm curious about this detail. Either way, it makes sense why you wouldn't want to bring a villain like that -- sort of reminds me of what Cloud of Darkness was compared to Xande (the actually fleshed out antagonist).

Anyway, considering the villains in Dissidia had a 'pecking order' or hierarchy of sorts, with The Emperor being pretty much one of the top dogs, I'd imagine he'd more or less view Marche as his subordinate or worshipper, especially since he might not view you as a 'true' villain due to the aforementioned information you discussed just now.

I remembered that you planned to bring over Marche as a villain instead of a hero, but you'd already responded to me and I figured I should mention it here instead of edit. I'm not sure on @Gohan's end if he has a hero/villain pairing for his first choices. On my end, you'll probably get Firion out of me, and - like I said - Cecil if possible, alongside the possible WoL I mentioned earlier.

Edit: I might have a respective hero to clash against Kefka with. While admittedly Ailyn's more suited to play Terra than I am, I could go with her or perhaps one of the other characters instead -- Sabin's the first that comes to mind, but possibly Locke. Granted, Terra would be more at Kefka's power level.

Either way, it makes sense why you wouldn't want to bring a villain like that -- sort of reminds me of what Cloud of Darkness was compared to Xande (the actually fleshed out antagonist).

Anyway, considering the villains in Dissidia had a 'pecking order' or hierarchy of sorts, with The Emperor being pretty much one of the top dogs, I'd imagine he'd more or less view Marche as his subordinate or worshipper, especially since he might not view you as a 'true' villain due to the aforementioned information you discussed just now.


Yes and no: FF:TA starts in a modern-day world with regular children in a town called Ivalice. By the power of a magic book, and the desires of one of Marche's friends, Mewt, the town is transformed into an entire world: Dream Ivalice. It lacks a lot of references to the other games in the world, but does contain Ivalice races: In the sequel, the protagonist Luso Clemens is sent to actual Ivalice; Where characters such as Vaan and Penelo can be recruited to your clan. Somehow characters in Dream Ivalice with memories of Marche exist in actual Ivalice, which I don't think is ever properly explained but might be a ret-con to the first game. I don't know.

Vayne, as far as I know, has no appearances in either game; Vaan and Penelo, when recruited, are already Sky Pirates; Making me assume FF:TA2 takes place after FFXII. And if FF:TA is set in actual Ivalice, then it is far back behind the events of FFXII. Neither game has locations from FFXII, so take that as you will.

I imagine Marche to be quite the pawn; Because he just wants to get home to where he belongs. He's willing to do whatever it takes to get it done, too; Regardless of FF:TA being more lighthearted than the original Tactics, Marche does destroy an entire world and kill people to achieve his goals; So he's got good intentions, but has done some fucked up shit.

I'm working on Marche's CS right now; Just got to get his abilities done. I'm starting off with two Job Classes: His base Soldier class, and the Fighter Class. I plan for him to gain Paladin later, as that's a canon class he's supposed to end up as, according to the Radio Drama.
