>Skilled hydromage sees your prowess with lightning. And the ego it fuels.
>His eyebrow twitches.
>Begins manipulating the fluid in your bowels, condensing them.
>Dons troll face.
>Makes you violently brown your pants every time he sees you try and cast a spell.

Beware the water benders. All the shit talk they take breeds a remarkable amount of spite.

You can instantly disintegrate someone with powerful lightning magic in many games/movies etc. You won't even have time to think WTF before your dust.@Sir Lurksalot
God the more I talk about this the more it makes me want to rp a lightning character.

You can curl yourself and be mummified into a rubber ball covered by 100 layers of insulator and still the lightning would melt through it all and STRIKE THE HEATHENS!@Spriggs27

Depending on how much if it is magic and how much if it is actually lightning, it's easier then one might think. A lot of lighting's strength comes from being a very souped up concentration of heat (hence why fire benders can do it), but anything with good heat conductivity can withstand lightning. Many earth metals for example, and perhaps to the surprise of some, water in its purest form is actually immune to electrical currents like lightning since there aren't any charged particles for eletricty to travel through.

Lightning certainly has its utility, but a lot of people seem to think of it as a glorified laser cannon. And there are plenty of ways to counter it if you know what it actually does.

Counter it? Hahaha! You can't counter something that travels 3700mps. Even if you put a wall of defense to negate it using materials that don't conduct electricity you can simply fork it to bypass the barrier going straight for the target.
The heat of lightning is 5 times hotter than that of the surface of the sun. You can practically melt anything using a constant stream of lightning channeling.

To this, I have a counter-argument using the same principal I noted above; The Hydromage clicks his tongue disapprovingly and the fluid between the hemispheres of your brain temporarily freezes, severing your corpus callosum. You now spend your days in a wheelchair and comfy robe trying and failing to work between the lines of a children's colouring book while raving something about the Croatian frappuccino conspiracy and weeing through a straw.

Yes, I like lightning. Every sane person likes lightning. But I like versatility more.

To all of this I say that an arrow to the face from a gargantuan distance away is just as, if not exactly as lethal, as any and all variations of "my magic is better than yours."
This includes scary stone melting fireballs and brain aneurysms.

Lightning (and air) tend to be the most versatile of the abilities! There's a reason this trope exists, after all. Not that water and earth aren't either. There's less emphasis on them, typically.

@Lunarlors34 I get the feeling Vesta's gonna leave Zin to be groped at and robbed in the streets where she is.

Spriggs, I'm sure some strong muscular guy will decide to protect Zin from being groped and robbed while she's incapacitated! Not Heinrich, of course, but somebody ELSE fitting that description might come along!

Actually it might be fun to have Heinrich holding both Zin and Aya, one on each shoulder, wondering why he's even in this situation to begin with.

Meh, if Vesta asks maybe he'll consider it. I think I'll try to get a shitty post up tonight, while Titanfall 2 downloads. Also today's episode of Jojo was great. Dust was bitten, fun was had. Also also, that Pepsi product placement :^)
