Sorry everyone I was held prisoner on my mom's kitchen farm where I was forced to scrub, cut, peel and watch various members of both the vegetable and animal kingdoms meet their firey dooms but I am now a free woman and recovering

In America there are two days out of the year that seem to be like the Yule Feasts of old and they both happen at this time of year

Thanksgiving is the Biggest of the two though saying that the Christmas meal is small is misleading as it is just less required

Thanksgiving was meant to be a meal they had to give thanks that the Puritans were able to land safely and establish the Plymouth Rock colony and it developed over the years as America became more successful it became a contest between the women of many families to showcase their cooking talents.

How the contest began I can’t really say but it did and like anything competitive in America it was pushed to the extremes. In most families the feast is a shared event that happens at the Family Matriarch’s home and the women of lesser rank bring dishes they’ve cooked at their own homes or spent the previous day at the Matriarch’s home cooking a dish or dessert. Everyone is polite to each other in the kitchen and most often female members only though on occasion males attempt to navigate this estrogen filled domain. (Men have recently made some headway into the contest by using their former fish fry and BBQ propane cookers to Deep Fry Turkeys)

This contest is as I mentioned polite on the surface but are actually bloody fights for the praise of the assembled family who are presented a meal that is staggering in its inclusion of every member of the animal kingdom and vegetable which can be found. The Family cast its votes by emptying the platters of their favorites and leaving those dishes deemed unworthy barely being touched; it's brutal.

I could go on but in Simple terms it is a Feast on steroids

Being British, I don't celebrate Thankgiving like the rest of you guys do.

But I am still a Subject of her Majesty; born in Cowes and lived in Ventnor till I was 12; then I was kidnapped and drug to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I return to my Chaulk roots from time to time when I visit my Gran in Blackgang.

My mom loves cooking and Thanksgiving here in america gave her licence show what she could cook. She embraced the art of making stuffing that frankly should be declared a sin and her hams and fowl so wonderful I think of giving up running so I could devote my every moment to the enjoyment of their flavors, textures and basting techniques.

Sorry but to truly understand why Americans enjoy thanksgiving you need to actually be invited to an American’s house where the extended family assemble and the Ladies bring dishes they cook to add to the feast, it is gentle warfare. What makes me laugh are the poor men who prefer their wife’s sister’s dish to that of their spouse.

I could write a book on the odd things I've seen that make you laugh, cry or just remember years later

In my opinion it is a quintessential American Holiday; Forget the 4th of July all around the world they celebrate some form of Independence day and it is a Holiday that survives because it forces Americans to at least once a year associate amicably with extended families that are separated by if not a 1,000 then 100s of miles

@Azure Sea So the reason Alice and her parents lived so long alone was because Alice's mother had a semblance of illusion and hid their home from all grimm. One day though Alice's mom grew very weak and couldn't keep up the illusion and grimm quickly flooded the place, and only Alice was able to escape thanks to her father.

@RumikoOharalol I would've preferred my home province of newfoundland was still a british colony instead of part of Canada due to the gov shafting us with giving most of the money from OUR provinces hydro production to the fake Frenchmen of Quebec {Their fake because they don't even use proper French but a VERY crappy facsimile that would make true frechmen from france laugh at them and it's actually happened I also dunno why we gotta learn their crappy version of French when they don't need to learn english}

I've been watching an anime all day that is just so different in it's way as to be fresh "Jōkamachi no Danderaion" which is "Castle Town Dandelion" in English and it's about Nine Royal siblings who each have special powers and are in a funny contest to be king with their own brothers and sisters.
