When Apothos fell into ruin during the Eternal Eclipse, known civilization was swallowed whole by unimaginable horrors never seen before and fierce eldritch storms ruthlessly tore the planet apart. Before the scattered Cardinal Races would be annihilated, they created a massive vessel-city that would sail into the sky to avoid the destruction. It was risky to dare pass into the Ocean of Ashe, the violent tempestial mass that now overtook the skies, but it was the only chance they had. The ship was fitted with the strongest arcane barriers they could muster in a hurry, and the population departed only hours after for this desperate exodus. If only there was a happy tale to tell of this journey. The hull of the vessel-city was already breached in moments upon entering the swirling mass and countless of these pilgrims were pulled into the sundering maw of the sky-ocean as the ship was ripped piece by piece. By the time they were able to escape the swirling jaws, only fragments of the massive vessel remained intact, the battered core powering the arcane engines and a few connected stations. Anchoring high above the atmosphere, like a glimmering crown in the darkness, the survivors breathed a sigh now that their journey was over. For the moment, they were safe from the violence and malice of the dying planet below.

But the survivors were soon made to face a grim reality. They suffered too many losses to infrastructure to continue their plans of settling smoothly in this new home. What was left of the ruling authority made a difficult decision. To preserve the damaged power reserves, the inhabitants were all placed in a deep asleep to await the time when the apocalyptic storms settled. When the time comes, they must return to face their old sins, to reclaim their shattered world. 

Ages have long passed now and the first of these people have begun to awake, heeding their fateful call. But things are not what they expect. Will they be able to accept their new destiny?

I'm curious. What is the level of technology and what are magic's capabilities and limitations (if it exists, in any form) in this roleplay?

In the age past, with the aid of magic, the Cardinal races were were able to reach levels of technology near sci-fi with flying ships and androids and the like, all powered by magical sources. But a lot of knowledge has been lost in the world below. Few understand how it works anymore. And even fewer are able to utilize this once-common trait since the power in their bloodlines have waned over the centuries.

Hmm, I'm interested, but I've got a few questions.

What do you mean by "cardinal beings" it's quite a broad aspect. Like, hmm, which branch of mythology are you referring to?

Magical Capabilities, say, is it elemental, or will it compromise of anything within one's imagination?

Setting-wise, is it safe to assume it's futuristic? In a sense that when they try to "reclaim" the world they left, and all, their mode of defense/attack would be rifles, guns, and the like? Or some sort of mix between magical enchanted scythes, swords, bows, and you know, so on.

I don't mind answering. This is a very short description, so I expect there to be a lot of things I'm missing.

There is no specific mythology I used in making these races, rather a mixture of both Eastern and Western, just things I thought would be cool thematically. That said, this is predominately a fantasy setting, or what is left of it, so you can expect many different places and things of the sort, just twisted with my own flare for the grim.

Though as of the beginning, the only playable race will be humans. I will go into more detail as to why later.

Your second question can be answered by going deeper into the lore of the Cardinal Races. In the age before, all living beings were able to use magic, to a basic degree, because they possessed a Soul. But not all were created equal. The first to rise and wake from the dreaming seeds cast by the World Tree, the very heart of Gaia, were the firstborn of the Gods, thus inheriting a piece of them. They were gifted with thoughts that allowed them to percieve beyond just instinct, subjective feelings like love and sadness and joy. These ideas allowed them to tap into a deeper power within 'Soul', discovering different methods of manipulating 'Aether' beyond just the Elemental, in which they defined into into magical arts called 'Arcana'. Due to their dominance over Aether, the lesser races referred to them as the 'Cardinals'.

In short, it is both, as imagination plays in how one will use and shape their powers into unique forms.

As for the third, you are almost correct. This is more fantasy, with a futuristic twist. It will be more the latter of what you said, with a mix of guns and swords that are modified and enhanced with magic-technology.
