He hasn't met Zin XD Also Vesta already has mentioned (twice) in Zin's presence that Avery is a guy. Hell Vesta warned Ease, Kyle and Blanc he was one yet Ease still didn't work it out XD

And Ease also has completely shit memory. And has had a rather hectic day. Do you expect him to remember every detail he's gonna hear? lol

@ZekariVoblis
May I remind you that Blanc didn't know what an Appa was? XD That suggests pretty damn sheltered to me. Also age doesn't equal smart or intelligence (just more opportunities to learn). I know pretty of idiots who are double my age (*cough*my father*cough*). Like the fact that just about everyone has been measuring weight wrong their entire lives (fun fact, weight is a force and therefore measured in newtons. MASS is what is weighed in Kg's. Your mass isn't affected by gravity, only your weight is hence the term 'weightless' in space. You still have the same mass.)
Also I...was talking about the sword wielder >.> Vesta would take one look at a golden sword and alarm bells would be ringing due to the amount of reading she does (she loves reading about things like that, since they are interesting). Also the magical presence which would surely be around it would be a decent enough hint that she isn't going to touch it (oh that and her obvious disdain for weaponry and armor)
A criteria for intelligence to me is a thirst for knowledge, which Vesta certainly has. She likes interesting things, learning about those things. They wouldn't be interesting to her if they were well known.
She knows little of the elves and wishes to learn about them from Blanc. She knows little of Avery and co's world and would love a chance to learn about it properly, not just the second hand information she has/can receive from the people sent over.
Also never said Vesta was going to win. Just because she was five steps ahead, doesn't mean she was going to win. If Aleph had done something she hadn't planned for, then her other plans were useless. However she had been using the rest of the fight to gauge his strength so her plans were made up with that knowledge.
In fact the only stupid thing she has done thus far is go the slums to allow Zin to accompany her XD (But once again, a dragon person is something she hasn't really heard about. So she wants to learn.)
Also if you can learn to memorize not just the word, but also the meaning and what context to use it in that sounds like you're rather intelligent. Don't see bogan's using the word injudicious do ya? (Neither has Vesta. Hasn't come up yet, besides she prefers the word idiotic)
Vesta should just carry a dictionary with her and hand it to people when she insults them.

The meaning of intelligence:
The ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills
synonyms: intellectual/mental capacity, intellect, mind, brain, brains, brainpower, powers of reasoning, judgement, reason, reasoning, understanding, comprehension, acumen, wit, sense, insight, perceptiveness, perception, perspicaciousness, perspicacity, penetration, discernment, sharpness, quickness of mind, quick-wittedness, smartness, canniness, astuteness, intuition, acuity, alertness, cleverness, brilliance, aptness, ability, giftedness, talent
(It also means to acquire military knowledge but that's a completely different context to this conversation)

Intelligence has been defined in many different ways including as one's capacity for logic, understanding, self-awareness, learning, emotional knowledge, planning, creativity and problem solving. It can be more generally described as the ability to perceive information, and to retain it as knowledge to be applied towards adaptive behaviors within an environment or context.

The definition of smart (for the context we're using it in)
having or showing a quick-witted intelligence.
"if he was that smart he would never have been tricked"
synonyms: clever, bright, intelligent, sharp, sharp-witted, quick-witted, nimble-witted, shrewd, astute, acute, apt, able; well educated, well read; perceptive, percipient, discerning; informalbrainy, savvy, streetwise, on the ball, quick on the uptake, genius; informalwhip-smart
"Joey will know what to do—he's the smart one"

Vesta ticks all those boxes last I checked. Her ego is very much a problem yes. She will make mistakes, it's impossible for anyone to NOT make one. Vesta's judgement is probably her weakest point, as it will be clouded by her own massive ego in certain situations.
There are other ways to throw a spanner in the works, one pretty obvious one and then another not so obvious.
Mistakes don't equate as to who is smarter than who, it's leaning from those mistakes which shows one's intelligence.

Well assuming she cared in the first place. That's another thing about her, she still needs to care enough XD

Okay...Two quick things though. Have you heard of the term "brilliant, but lazy?"

2. You put judgement as a synonym of intelligent, meaning good judgement is largely similar to having good intelligence, which intelligence is the main argument. But then you said Vesta's judgement is bad. See where I'm going with this?

Admittedly my fault a bit there. Me making Ease go over to the Mithril crime scene might've halted it slightly.

Hey there all you fine people. Figured I should say high before I start tossing profiles around.

While I'm here though, is there anything in the IC that would be helpful for a possible new player to know? Cities driven insane by that weird Lovecratian knowledge in the main post? Good spots to jump in? Mary Sues to be avoided at all costs?

*rubs temples*
Did you only read the synonyms (similar meaning, not exact meaning) and not the definition itself?
I said her judgement isn't great, not that it was bad for a start. And even then it's only when it involves her ego, as her thought process is to prevent her reputation from being tarnished. Everyone has made bad calls so far, therefore everyone has had poor judgement at one stage or another. 'Clouded judgement' will happen to everyone at one stage, just depends on the situation. As bishop stated a lot of the stupid things characters will do isn't because of the character but the roleplayer.
Using poor judgement as the only factor for not being highly intelligent is completely irrational and illogical. As listed in the DEFINITION judgement is one aspect of intelligence, not the be all and end all.
Mithril by that logic is the least intelligent, because to be frank he has the worst judgement (Other than maybe Aleph XD).

And if we're to cherry pick synonyms allow me to cherry pick one. Vesta has talent, talent is a synonym. Therefore since Vesta has talent in bucketloads; she's also got intelligence in bucketloads. See the problem with that logic/line of reasoning?

Related to the Genius Ditz or the Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass, you have the Brilliant, But Lazy character, who is more than capable of taking care of any situation that the heroes have to deal with, but doesn't care. He'd rather relax and do nothing to help. This character will likely Refuse The Call when it comes, feeling that, whatever's going on, it's not his problem. Expect them to be very sarcastic as well.
Expect such a character to be indifferent, uncaring, and, at worst, obnoxious or self-centered.
However, when it's crunch time, and the heroes need someone to come save them, guess who decided to give them a break?
Subtrope of Jerk with a Heart of Gold, and often a form of Obfuscating Stupidity. Can be associated with Book Dumb. If they're also rich, they may be an Upper-Class Twit. When they try to be The Slacker, they usually turn into a Professional Slacker. See also Unskilled, but Strong, which a Brilliant But Lazy character can be if they have great power but don't bother working to improve on it.
An obvious subversion here is the notable difference between someone who actually is Brilliant But Lazy and someone who thinks they're Brilliant But Lazy but is actually just Lazy. This also applies to those who are secretly afraid they're not brilliant and hence refuse to exert themselves for fear they'll be exposed. They should also beware of falling into the trap of Laborious Laziness if they find that their smarts and their desire to avoid doing work is in fact making them work harder at being lazy than they would be working if they just did what they were supposed to.
May overlap with the Erudite Stoner, whose laziness comes from being under the influence, and the Absent-Minded Professor, who may seem lazy because his intellect distracts him from everyday tasks. Contrast Nerds Love Tough Schoolwork. See also, Hidden Depths.

I was familiar with the term before hand I just like to bring facts and definitions to the table when I debate. Vesta fits this trope somewhat, but what does this have to do with anything? She also fits a few other tropes.
This all circles back to the definition now. The ability to gain and apply knowledge and skills. Vesta does that, but it doesn't matter how smart you are there are downsides to knowing too much. E.g. overthink situations.

Now to check what defines intelligence...
Logic. Check.
Understanding. Depends on the subject obviously. Like anyone else. Blanc has no understanding of the human's because she wasn't raised around them, just as Vesta has no understanding of elves since there is little information about them among humans and she wasn't raised around elves.
Self-awareness. Depends on what you mean by that, if one means the environment around them then check. If one means themselves in general then she has too much self-awareness XD
Learning. Check.
Emotional Knowledge. Check. (She just doesn't care)
Planning. Check.
Creativity. Hasn't had a chance to showcase too much but check.
Problem solving. Depends, does it count when you're the problem and solution? XD
Can she perceive information, retain it as knowledge and apply it to adapt to an environment or context? Yes. Whether she decides to or not is a completely different topic, as if one couldn't guess she isn't very tactful or diplomatic in any form.

On another note Heinrich totally fits the Unskilled, but strong trope XD
And now that I think about it...wasn't there a guy with a divine protection which made his mind like a computer? He would be the smartest XD (Though his roleplayer hasn't logged in in like a month)

Tbh, I stopped caring about the intelligence thing. Now I kinda just wanted to see how much you'd type out from it all. Man, that worked a bit better than I thought.

Hmm. So you won when I got you to have to look up a bunch of definitions for really no reason, waste your time overall, and all while I got to....pretty much do whatever I want while you focus on that? Unless, of course, you planned on spending a bit of your Saturday night that way.

If the victory still feels great, alright. Enjoy it. Even go for another victory lap if ya want. I don't mind.

Saturday night? Pfft don't lump my amazing future timezone in with your pathetic past timezone (note: I am saying this in as posh a voice as possible XD). I spent that at the pub with my cricket mates. Today is Sunday for myself my day to lay back and read. Maybe get some roleplay posts done if I want to/if I can stop staring at a screen. I don't really have plans on sunday so I managed to do some three second google searches done for the day and play some games (hell the searches filled in my waiting time for some stuff to recharge)
I even got to get out of doing some stuff I didn't want to do. So yeah feeling fantastic actually since I haven't left my bed since 9AM and it's now 5:30PM :P (Lazy days are the greatest ever).
All you stopped me doing was procrastinating over doing posts. So really you gave me something to do instead of wasting my time staring at a screen, trying to think of something to type up. (Hint it was three definitions, first thing I saw and then copied and pasted without even bothering to read it). Now to spend the rest of my sunday doing the exact same thing....absolutely nothing at all cause I'm sore. In fact you woke my brain up so managed to get some posting done :P
So I still win either way.
*proceeds to do victory lap before turning around*
So where's the cake which was mentioned? I could go for some cake.
