It's fun to do, don't get me wrong, but I get the feeling the American (political) parties have used that tactic just a little too much. They're still doing it, really :p

Yeah, unfortunately that sort of strategy is a lot less effective when it's a group vs. another group, since generally speaking in order to brand someone as 'insane' you need to be able to isolate them. Though I'm more inclined to think the masses are insane, but then I'm one of the 'crazy' people so I would think that.
